I personally think that listening to Angelina is great for anyone's mental health, and I think many of her fans would agree with this. After you have heard more of her stuff, you will probably agree too. It's not just her voice, but her beautiful spirit as well that really affects people. To see what I mean, just read through this little bio to learn a little more about her background and her kind and caring soul....... *Angelina Jordan* - Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 16 - She began singing at the age of one and a half - At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos. - *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help. Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...bare foot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person. - She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old. - In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes" - When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need. - The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. After she won NGT, they did not want her to be thrust into stardom before she had a chance to grow up as a normal child, and get her education. They allowed her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that came in. Over the years since NGT, they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney. - Angelina has covered more than 160 songs and over 70 artists. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else) - Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... As far as the legitimacy of the quote, it definitely sounds like something she would say, I just don't know the source. I don't usually re-post anything I don't have a good source for, and I have lost track of that one somehow.

Thank you for your enthusiastic reaction to Angelina. Norwegian born Angelina began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Influences include Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Diana Washington, Adele, Frank Sinatra, Amy Winehouse, Lana del Rey, and many more. Her grandmother was her greatest influence, but Angelina chose her own path. Her first studio performance was at age 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. They turned down record labels and performance requests, limiting her appearances to about 10% of the requests. This is the reason why she flew under the radar for many of us. As an international "Got Talent" winner, 13 year old Angelina was invited to audition for America's Got Talent, The Champions (AGTC) Season 2020. She owned the audience with her first few lines. It was Peak Pandemic and I was feeling low. No work and nothing to do but to aimlessly scroll through my Facebook feed. And then amongst all nonsense up came this video from America’s Got Talent with a 13-year old girl from Norway singing Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody in a way that was totally beautiful and mesmerising. I was instantly hooked. And the more I listened to this young girl the more emotional I became and it kind of snapped me out of my mood. I became a fan like I’ve never been for anyone. I started a KZbin channel. I started a podcast. I wanted others to feel the way I felt - utter joy and gratitud. What Angelina has showed me is that we humans have the power to move one another to the point that it actually makes the world a better place.

You're absolutely right, the lyrics are about scary attachment and coercion. The Hocus-Pocus version made it camp, but Angelina is following how the song was originally written and sung by Screamin' Jay Hawkings. Angelina has well over a hundred videos up on KZbin. As someone who is so oriented toward emotions, you will be absolutely crazy about her. That's because she expresses more different emotions, and more realistically, than any other singer you have ever seen. You may think I am just a crazed fan for saying that, but trust me, look at some more of her songs and you will agree. For your next Angelina reaction I would suggest you look at her cover of Michael Jackson's Heal the World.

This includes three originals song: “What Is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” Since then she has done many new covers and now her new singles "Million Miles" and “7th Heaven”, along with her movie soundtrack "Mercy" from the motion picture “The Hating Game”. My personal favorite is her cover of Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die". Athought ”Mercy” is really growing on me. Let’s analyze the video: 1st you see how small and cute she is. 2nd you see she is barefoot (story below) 3rd You see her making her “Wish List” of suggested changes to the song. 4th the band leader taking note of the changes. 5th Angelina is holding a candle with “Screemin’ Jay Hawkin’s (original artist 1956) picture on it. 6th the old soul in her voice. She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Your response to this performance and particularly the lyrics is very interesting. The original performer/composer, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, wrote this piece back in the mid 1950's. He was a jazz performer, and for reasons not outlined here, he ended up making his art theatrical, shockingly theatrical. What Angelina did as a young girl was to recreate/interpret this piece of jazz history. At the beginning of the video we can see her writing/arranging chord notation sheets which she submitted to the band director for approval. Then she displays the picture/candle of Screamin' Jay Hawkins in respect. As for the meaning of the lyrics as it relates to mental health, I can only defer to your opinion as someone who is committed to mental health issues. You clearly have a grasp of those issues. As an older man of 79 years, my focus is on the expression that Angelina brings to this classic piece of jazz. There are many , many vocal coaches and just plain listeners who marvel at Angelina's creation/expression, as a little girl or not. I think you get that...and I laud your effort to offer deeper insight into the psycho-social content of the lyrics. What is important about Angelina's musicality and vocal expression is that she uses these in service of whatever song she sings to fully convey the emotional content of the lyrics. She does this so well, time after time, that the listener is mesmerized and enters fully into the story in song that Angelina sings. She began performing in recording studios and on stage at the age of 5 or 6, and has been steadily developing her craft until the present in which she is 16. Anyway, thanks for you reaction/review. I feel it would be beneficial for you to review other performances by Angelina with the point of view of how lyrical content affects mental states, and how effective an artist like Angelina is at the craft of singing.

Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956. She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. Things I found particularly worthy of note in this video are (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand (g) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

I have been watching your videos for some time as they relate to me since I struggle with bipolar disorder. Angelina is also my favorite artist and I not only repeatedly listen to her music I watch quite a few reaction videos. So it is interesting to see things converge and watch you react to her song. You would appreciate both of her original songs produced so far after having signed with a big record label as a young teen. The first is "Million Miles" which was written after the death of her grandfather and presents a very healthy way of dealing with grief. The second is "7th Heaven" which is pretty much putting affirmational messages to music. Whether you choose to react to them on camera or not, you should really listen to the wisdom and musical genius of this young lady.

Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. Hi Amanda, My re-Discovery of Angelina happened after my wife died in cancer four years ago. I´ve listened to her covers and originals over and over, and I just can´t get enough. The emotions she puts in to her singing is beyond my understanding, and for such a young girl its amazing. She has helped me a lot over the years with her singing. Regarding mental health you should listen to her original Million miles. It is dedicated to her late grandfather, and to everybody who has lost someone loved. Screamin J Hawkins had fun with this song, it was his biggest hit and created Screamin J. J got very theatrical with it. Angie follows J's arrangement about 50% of the time. She takes his growl, blabbering, and vocal dirt and makes it work for her 9 yr old self. In my opinion Angie didn't learn this, she heard it and had it, she possessed it in one listening. Thank you for a brilliant reaction! You have seen more in this performance than all the other reactors (and there are many) put together. Angelina really brings out the dark power behind this song and makes you feel that spell. If you are the person addressed by this you should be running hard in the opposite direction! However, there's no need to fear for Angelina's state of mind. She is one of the most well-balanced people on the planet with a wonderful family behind her. How she can interpret a song like this (and she partly arranged it herself) is almost supernatural. If you care to check out more Angelina you will find a LOT of her fans will join your channel - and I'm sure they'd like to hear what you make of some of her classics, such as Love Story and Song for A - both a total contrast to "Spell" and both wonderfully calming.

I follow several great young singers, that don't come close to Angelina. I don't consider Angelina a "great singer." Just as I don't consider Rembrandt just a great painter. Angelina is an artist, that creates her masterpieces with her voice, her knowledge of the mechanics of music, and her ability to have a song sound the way she wants it to sound. I am an Angelinaholic, and I can never be cured, and look forward to listening to her artwork every time she performs.

Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based after listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. Angelina is something else. Probably one of the best singers born this century. What makes her interesting is her ability to tap into emotions and express them in an authentic way. She has covered a lot of songs by well known artists and made them her own. One example is when she sings Gloomy Sunday that was made famous by Billie Holliday. She sings it in the same way as Billie did. What does a seven year old girl and a middle age girl have in common? Probably nothing. Yet Angelina is able to express the same emotion. It is a vey dark song and there is a urban legend that people have committed suicide after listening to this song. What on earth makes a seven year old girl pick this song and sing it. Most other girls her age would probably gone for something from Disney.🤔

You'll note she sings barefoot, at age 6 while traveling in the middle east with her mother and grandmother ( Mery Zamani aka Mosarz world renowned poet and artist a child prodigy herself) she met a little girl weighing people for money they struck up a conversation Angelina asked the little girl What she wanted to be when she grew up and she replied a doctor but said it would never be because she was a orphan and had to take care of her siblings, Angelina told her she wanted to sing for the world then the girl said she would pray for her Angelina took off her boots and gave them to the little girl because the girl couldn't afford shoes. Angelina wrote a book about the encounter making her the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina is from Norway and English is her third language. Since then Angelina performs barefoot to bring awareness that there people less fortunate out there. Angelina has performed all over the world to help raise millions for different charities she has sang for Royalty, Prime ministers, former presidents and celebrities. She just this year turned 16 , her parents finally let her sign with a record company Republic records with the understanding that education comes first. Have no fear she comes from a very loving and close knit family, her parents uprooted from Norway and moved to the United States for Angelina . This comment is very lengthy, but it's worth getting to know the world of Angelina Jordan. Our Angelina performs in such a way as to open a window into her world, and it’s breathtaking. Angelina is a Norwegian born child prodigy, who began singing at 16 months old. Her mother came home from shopping one day and heard her baby/toddler singing lyrics from a Whitney Houston song (there's even a partial home video). As a musical prodigy, Angelina taught/teaches herself how to sing. She’s had formal training in guitar and piano, but not for her voice. At most, she is critiqued on her lines. The biggest constant with Angelina Jordan is that her performances are always amazing to listen to. She visualizes how she thinks the piece should sound, and works it out until it’s exactly what she wants. Although she’s been called a vocal chameleon or the girl of a 1,000 voices, Angelina does not parrot other performer’s music. At 2, Angelina chose jazz and the blues to listen to and learn from. She’s a great consumer of the jazz and blues masters (Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Etta James, Billie Holiday, and later with Adele and Amy Winehouse). Growing up with KZbin at her fingertips, she could listen again and again to her favorites, and work out in her head how she would sing them. At 3 years old, Angelina set her sights on performing for Simon Cowell, a dream that came true 10 years later as 13 year old Angelina auditioned for America's Got Talent, The Champions (AGTC). By 5 her parents finally relented to Angelina's wanting to singing talent shows. At 7, they again relented, and let Angelina follow her dreams onto the stage of Norway’s Got Talent auditions for Season 2014. The last audition of the day was a barefoot, snaggle-toothed, bushy haired, Angelina, who chose to sing of all things, Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday" (link below). This is a song that's beyond many adult singers (link below). Omer Bhatti (a son of M. Jackson), one of the judges, said of 7 year old Angelina in a later interview “We were in shock when she started to sing…it was a discussion whether it was an impression of that kind of music or the real deal…and the next time we saw her, she owned the stage, when she rehearsed, she told the bassist what she wanted and had full control. And we were like…ok…you are a star…we have something special here…”. She made a masterful performance of Gershwin’s “Summertime” for her final performance, with the people of Norway voting her the winner; a must see performance (see link below). Prodigies, by their nature, aren't limited to the rules everyone else has to follow. Vocal coaches reacting to her have said that she just knows instinctually control her body to sing the music the way she wants to, even at low registers. They can identify everything she's doing; they just can't say how she's able to do it. By 15, Angelina has performed over 160 covers and has 5 originals. Regardless of the genre she sings, you may be able to pick up the dulcet tones of Billie Holiday, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, and many other artists hidden in her voice or phrasing. Angelina also doesn't approach singing as the vast majority of very talented child singers do; belting the heck out of a song from start to finish. Her songs sneak up behind and capture you with kindness, often within the first few lines. Her runs are insane but totally organic. When she wants to belt, she belts. If you doubt this, listen to her Whitney Houston Tribute where she sings "I Have Nothing”. If you listen to this performance, keep in mind that while Angelina was a 13 years old when she recorded this piece, Whitney first performed it at 29 years old. (Continued in comment below)

This was evident when she told AGTC that she won NGT at 7 rather than 8. She knew intellectually that she was 8, even if she got it wrong in the moment before performing her "Bohemian Rhapsody" audition.

(In her pre-AGT interview she also said she won at 7, and on stage, she told Heidi she won at 7.) After she told Heidi she won at 7, Heidi said: "So that means you're 13! [2020 minus 2014 plus 7 equals 13.]" How could Heidi know that, since it was actually 2019 when the exchange took place?.... Because the show was taped in 2019, but not aired until 2020, answering she won at 7 kept the important numbers (her true age when performing on AGT being 13; her winning NGT in 2014; the current date of 2020) intact and consistent.

@@103mrg Yes, I did the math and followed Heidi's remarks. Can you send me the link to the article or interview where the AGTC producers told her to say she won NGT 2014 at age 7 versus 8? I don't honestly want to misrepresent her, but I want to ensure their are source documents to go by. Can you also send me the link to the interview or article where she starts singing at 3 years of age as opposed to earlier. I will recheck my information and pin down where she's reported as starting to teach herself to sing at 2. Since she self-reported as beginning to sing with jazz, this would also be tied to that date.

As a retired psychologist, the stated purpose of this channel drew me in. I have subscribed. A 9 yo Angelina covered this odd song by Screaming Jay for reasons I an unaware, but I would invite you to listen to her >150 covers and originals. Another psychologically interesting cover is an unauthorized release of a demo she did called “I’m still holding out for you” ( I think that is correct) from age 10 that flirts with suicidal ideation and a relationship. Worth a listen.

There is definitely some subtext here about obsession and coercion, but the original artist and songwriter, Screamin' Jay Hawkins(pictured on the candle at the beginning of the video), definitely had magic in mind. He was a forerunner of the shock-rock musical genre and performed wearing the costume of an adventure movie "witch doctor," holding a skull on a stick as a prop. Angelina, at age 9 here, is taking her inspiration from his performances. Her talent does seem supernatural. Great reaction, and thanks for speaking out about mental health issues.
