Lovely reaction. I’ve just discovered your channel and will now subscribe. The pencil drawings that appear partway through were drawn by Ian Dury himself. Sadly he passed away 23 years ago. I was lucky enough to see them live the year before he died. Definitely a reason to be cheerful. Thanks for such a great reaction. Your smile and enthusiasm has brightened up a very difficult day for me. Love and light.

I'm late to this particular party but thanks for doing a reaction to Ian. He was a real champ for people with challenges WITHOUT becoming some insufferable, contrived poster boy and he had a helluva rythym section, no doubt. Your smile is infectious btw and keep being you, because you is perfect. :)

Lovely lady but no way could she understand the slang or the cultural references. 'Nuddy', 'chokey', 'slap'n'tickle' etc. Sadly she didn't even seem to pick up on it when he mentioned Steve Biko.
@2463sugarbear Жыл бұрын
None of us in NYC back then could understand his accent and use of cockney slang. But this song was hot in all of the clubs and discos and high on the charts through the 80s here. I didn't hear Steven Biko either and I've been listening to this song since it came out so don't go there it's about his delivery not Steven Biko. It's about a really great song by Ian Dury and Chaz Jankel.
@luckydave328 Жыл бұрын
@@2463sugarbear I agree but I'm surprised that at least two people didn't hear that !
@2463sugarbear Жыл бұрын
@@luckydave328 you're not agreeing your trying to make a shady issue on us not picking up a black leaders name which is one of Ians "Reasons to be Cheerful" in the song, not a point of mentioning in commentary on how great , funky and ahead of its time the song is. If he had said my name I wouldn't have understood his accent as I can barely understand her accent. In his song Rhythm Stick his delivery is slower so the lyrics are heard clearer. So to be clear everyone is here for the video reaction except you who want the her to say something about Biko. She never said that, but you stated "she could never understand" . ITS ABOUT THE MUSIC REVIEW and positivity.
@luckydave328 Жыл бұрын
@@2463sugarbear Thanks for the heavy, unrestrained judgement and lecture. You don't know me and you don't get my angle. I'm a huge fan and have been since Kilburn and the Highroads. I am right in thinking most people outside of UK would not understand a lot of the lyrics but the names should leap out. That's all. "Don't get yer knickers in a twist" as Ian might have said.
@luckydave328 Жыл бұрын
@@2463sugarbear btw my comment was referring to the fact that the lady is from South Africa where Biko is a hugely renowned and venerated hero of the freedom struggle. Maybe Ian's pronunciation was not clear enough. It is you who mentioned colour. You Americans are generally obsessed about it. It's a national sickness.
