Told you he was good at pulling out a Ferry 😁 Iva Davies has a great voice, so elegant. The B-side, Love In Motion, is perfectly sinister and I love it! On the same album, there also Oh My Mind, on which he does a mean Bowie, since you références China Girl. Sunrise's s sound is so deep, epic but still gentle and oh so classe. On the Streetwalk album, there's The Moutain, which also has a great song. You see that I can appreciate guitars... Thank you Brandon 😊

Icehouse are phenomenal. Although New Wave in sound, their roots are firmly planted in the beer and cigarette stained floors of Aussie Pub Rock. Bands like this demonstrate the diversity of music rolling through the pub scene here in the 70s and 80s. Primitive Man is a great album and I highly recommend listening to the title song.

So glad to see a new Icehouse fan develop. No Promises is one of my all-time favorites - although I prefer the extended 12" mix that allows me to savor each layer as it come in. Truly hypnotic. FYI - the Aussie band Cut Copy released an album in 2011 called "Zonoscope" in which they paid tribute to their 80's influences. The album opener "Need You Now" is a spot on Icehouse type track - and is hauntingly beautiful. If I didn't know better, I would swear that the album was actually made in the 80's. My fellow commenters have already done a good job of giving you additional Icehouse tracks to check out, so I can defer to them for now.

Along with ultravox simple minds…Iva Davies is icehouse with a core group..couldn’t write a bad song…every album filled… needle drop to the end. People neglect the first icehouse/flowers album icehouse walls get together can’t help myself not my kind fatman etc…. For me, Sunrise is Hiroshima…. Blood red sunrise shadows on the wall . for a no promises fan try icehouse, Trojan blue, don’t believe anymore, man of colors or the kingdom. The 40th concert is well worth watching

For a DM fan you should love them. Particularly Iva Davis had the chance to get one of the best voice of the 80s. The early album was a bit repetitive because of Drum machine, typically synth pop! But this 5th album is pure gem, listen to "Man of colors" "crazy" Electric Blue""My Obsession" All fine crafted music "Sunrise" is like a prog song, vocals and chorus and mood' Awesome! Best!

FYI: the song, "Sunrise," Iva wrote about Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 (anniversary coming up soon). You can tell by the verse, You never see the faces of the fishermen,/but you may she their shadows burned against the wall. The blood red sunrise is the flash of the atomic bomb. The song also describes the Japanese resilience in the face of such horrors. It is one of my favourite tracks on Man of Colours. Try the title track. It's beautifully melancholy. And the first track on the B side, The Kingdom. You'll like that too. As for Measure fir Measure, listen to Cross the Border. Iva wrote it about the Berlin Wall. Who knew that three years later , the Wall would be gone? It's a very powerful, guitar-driven track. I've been a big fab of Icehouse for more than 40 years. I can suggest all sorts of good tracks. You really must listen to their album, Sidewalk. It's got some terrific tunes, like Take this Town, and Don't Believe Anymore. Anu tumes you want to know about. just ask.

Good stuff. "Hey, Little Girl" didn't really grab me, just sounded "typical" of the genre but was well done. Probably repeated listening and in memorable moments might cause it to be more impactful for me? "Sunrise" on the other hand was a song I really enjoyed! The only song I'm familiar with from Icehouse is the song "Icehouse", which sounds a lot like it could have been from a Gary Numan album? It was played on the radio a bit and I even heard it being played in a clothing store at the mall. (I remember positioning myself by the closest speaker so I could listen and had to explain to the sales girl why I was just standing there for so long! 😅) Moments from both songs made me think a bit of Thomas Dolby and his fantastic song "One Of Our Submarines", my favorite of his and one of my top favorite songs from the early 80's! 👌💖 It definitely deserves to be on your channel!

Ok, I'll give it a better and more realistic hearing: Icehouse had a (one) brilliant song and hit, because they had moved away from the rock standard - for exactly one song! Listen to the rest, 0815 rock, always the same 80s FM bell. The bottom line is that their hit has nothing to do with their style, because nothing and never have they been so innovative. Too bad.
@cheshunt55975 ай бұрын
I think it is the opposite. Electric Blue co-writer was John Oates & would've been a rock standard #1 for Hall & Oates. Everything else Icehouse did was rarely covering the same music territory as the previous song. More likely that variety is why USA never permanently took to Icehouse.

Sunrise is more to do witj with the nuclear bomb in Japan
@mattburgess56974 ай бұрын
“The lyrics describe the resilience and hope of the human spirit that each new day unleashes.” That is as aggressively wrong an interpretation as you could possibly make. The lyrics describe an effing nuclear holocaust. It’s explicitly about the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima. It’s not a bit subtle.
