Drummer Nicko McBrain, who joined shortly after this song was released, said in an interview that one of his conditions for joining was that they should play "Hallowed be thy name" at every concert. The reporter ask: "Did they agree?". And Nicko replied: "I'm still here, aren't I?"

Bruce said in interviews he sang and performed in a way that he wanted to reach out to that fan in the upper level seats and make them feel like they were front row. Consumate frontman. One of the best in the business. And a total badass. Can pilot commercial jumbo jets including the band's 747, Ed Force One. Well regarded fencer. And when tongue cancer threatened to slow him down he kicked it to the curb with a resounding "Fuck you!" and is still touring to this day. May we all have a life as full and as resilitent as Bruce's :) Rock on and UP THE IRONS!

Cool Lena, what city/town did you grow up in? I grew up in Palmerston Nth. with a cool American Art Teacher, named Ms Artner. She was a Hippy in the 60's during Woodstock so she was a little "out there" as one could imagine but she was also my favourite teacher! She always encouraged us to love our own Art no matter how it turned out. We got away with a lot more things than other classes or teachers would have allowed us to. Ms. Artner was special. Thanks for the great 80's memories!

So you've discovered Iron Maiden. With 17 studio albums it a long rabbit hole to go down. I've been listening to Iron Maiden since 1982, at the age of 15. To give you a complete list of Iron Maiden recommendations, see my list below. Iron Maiden is: Bruce Dickinson - Vocals Born: August 7, 1958 (age 63 years) Started with Iron Maiden in 1981, left in 1993 and rejoined in 1999 and present singer Steve Harris - Bassist and Founder Born: March 12, 1956 (age 66 years), Started the band in 1975 and has never left Dave Murray - Guitarist Born: December 23, 1956 (age 65 years), 1976-1977, 1978- present Adrian Smith - Guitarist Born: February 27, 1957 (age 65 years), 1980-1990, 1999-present Janick Gers - Guiarist Born: January 27, 1957 (age 65 years), 1990 - present Nicko McBrain - Drums Born: June 5, 1952 (age 69 years), 1982 - present Since you like live performances these I'd recommend first - Fear of the Dark (Rock in Rio) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqHFn6iYi7Sdhrs Rime of the Ancient Mariner (Live After Death) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fom2i56VetV3n9E The Trooper (Life After Death) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIG8kKtuabmhmbc Aces High (Live After Death) kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZfclqaofLJ2rqs Phantom of the Opera (Live with their first singer Paul DiAnno) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmbNkoWfpaZola8 Highlight of songs I'd recommend are: From Iron Maiden------ Phantom of the Opera - A must for live version Strange World (this one will be totally different Iron Maiden) From Killers ------ Murders in the Rue Morgue (Very loosely influenced by Edgar Allen Poe's short story, a story of a fugitive being sought for murder) Genghis Khan (an instrumental - perfect for air drumming) Innocent Exile (continues the theme of Murders in the Rue Morgue of an unjustly accused fugitive) Killers (A jorney into the twisted mind of a deranged killer) Prodigal Son(about a repentant man reminiscent of the prodigal son parable found in Luke 15 of the bible) Purgatory(lyrics of song read like a poem) Drifter (focuses on the possibility of new beginnings) From The Number of the Beast------ Invaders (It graphically depicts the violence and horror of a defense against a Viking invasion) The Prisoner (based on the UK television series that ran briefly in the late 1960’s) 22 Acacia Avenue (The continuation of Charlotte the Harlot) The Number of the Beast (Inspired by a dream Bassist Steve Harris had after watching the movie the Omen2) Run to the Hills (about the European arrival in America told from the perspective of both the oppressed Cree and the invading Anglo-Saxon soldiers) Hallowed be Thy Name (about a man who is about to be put to death and what he goes through) ***You have done. From Piece of Mind------ Where Eagles Dare (based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps Revelations (Starts with the Hymnal from Oh God of Earth and Alter, the next two verses on the Hindu philosophy, the third verse in Yoga a snake called Kundalini that lives at the base of your spinal cord, during meditation a spiritual entity is created symbolizing the transcendental union with God) Flight of Icarus (loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus) The Trooper (based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854,which took place during the Crimean War) To Tame a Land (the song relays the story of Paul Atreides, Paul Muad'Dib, from the book Dune by Frank Herbert) From Powerslave------ Aces High (about aircraft dog fighting between the British and German fighter pilots of WWII) 2 Minutes to Midnight - About the Doomsday clock for the End of the World Back in The Village (The continuation of the song The Prisoner) Powerslave (about an arrogant pharaoh in his dying hours, he can't understand why he's about to die and fights it in vain) Rime of the Ancient Mariner - (From the poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (story about about an ocean voyage) From Somewhere in Time------- Wasted Years (A song about the admonition to appreciate the present and not to take things for granted) The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (based on a short story of Alan Sillitoe which was made into a 1962 film Alexander the Great (About the story of Alexander the Great) From 7th Son of a 7th Son (a concept album)------ Infinite Dreams (Detailing someone who is tormented by paranormal dreams and nightmares) The Evil That Men Do (Title taken from a quote in Shakespeare Julius Caesar but the song is unrelated) The Clairvoyant (relates the reflections of the 7th Son of the 7th Son on his life and his powers) From Fear of the Dark------ Wasting Love (About the emptiness of relationships without love. Another Maiden ballad) Fear of the Dark (About being afraid of the dark and the things in the dark that might be there - absolute a live performance for this one) *You've done this one, your first IM From Brave New World------ The Wicker Man (about the apathy of our modern society and our egotistic disinterest of what is happening until something happens to us) Ghost of the Navigator (The lyrics are a metaphor of life, with the ship sailing west towards the setting sun representing death) Brave New World (Loosely based on the 1932 novel by Aldous Huxley) Dream of Mirrors (Yet another song about reoccurring and maybe premonitory dreams) Out of the Silent Planet (Supposedly inspired by the 1956 science -fiction film Forbidden Planet) From Dance of Death------ No More Lies (The lyrics deal with someone knows his time has come with the possibility of reincarnation) Dance of Death (Orinally inspired by Ingmar Bergman's 1957 film The Seventh Seal - Another one to do as a live performance) Paschendale (about the Battle of Passchendaele during WWI) ***You have done From A Matter of Life and Death------ Brighter than a Thousand Suns (About the dawn of the nuclear bomb age) The Longest Day (about the WWII Normandy Invasion) Out of the Shadows (Questioning the meaning of life)

@@kardeef33317 Excellent food there, too. I wasn't lucky enough to meet Nicko when I went back in February, but lunch there was the high point of an otherwise sad trip for me. I lost my husband in January and since his parents are both in poor health and not able to travel (plus our daughter lives with his mother for uni), I went down to Boca Raton so MIL could do the funeral/memorial service in her church. Daughter and I went to Rock N Roll Ribs for lunch (turns out it's less than 5 miles from MIL's place) and it was nice to have a little bit of time to relax and not feel like I had to be strong for MIL. Even if I did bore Daughter by yammering on about all the memorabilia in there.

All the band members were next level before the level existed. Not just in talent, but personality. Singer Bruce Dickinson said once that it's his job to make sure everyone has the same experience regardless of how much they paid for their ticket. The lead singer of Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson has survived and beaten Throat cancer BEFORE he has come back to the band and is singing THIS song now. So, this is HIM singing after beating throat cancer. I am just MEGA impressed about that. That is IF this recording HAS been a recent one. I guess that the recording of him singing COULD have been made BEFORE his cancer diagnosis and surgery/cure. The more I listen to it, I know that it is from the original recording, so, BEFORE his cancer diagnosis and surgery. LOL!! Your facial expressions are cracking me up!!!! You look kinda shocked and/or impressed or something!!!! It's always interesting to see people who may not be into a certain band or type of music give a review of it. Maiden has been my favorite band since the 1980's. I hope you liked their music.

Um... this recording was made back in 1982, so yeah, way before the cancer. If you want post-cancer recordings, look for stuff from the Book of Souls World Tour (Wasted Years is funny on this one; while the live video is obviously a compilation from several shows, Bruce keeps messing with Adrian's mic, moving it on him and stuff) or the Legacy of the Beast World Tour (Bruce has way too much fun with flamethrowers during Flight of Icarus).

Not just one of the Heavy Metal greats, Iron Maiden are the kings of Prog Metal. The constant tempo shifts, rhythm changes, etc. Every song will keep you guessing which direction it is going to go from stanza to stanza while still raging fluidly and in a way that makes sense. BRO. Listen to Fear of the Dark by Iron Maiden. Definitely one of their best songs. But Hallowed Be Thy Name is possibly my favorite. It's quite hard to choose actually. There are so many great songs by Maiden. I saw em live in 2016. Best concert I ever been to in my life.

Yes this is the sound of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. This was the second wave of Heavy Metal right after the classics Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and of course Black Sabbath. I personally like to know the timeline to understand how the sound evolved

What amazes me is that the protagonist in this song is getting ready to be hung, having served his prison sentence. And here he is, going through the stages of grief, contemplating his life. At the end of his life, with the rope around his neck, the last thing he says is, "Hallowed....Be...Thy....NAME!"

If you're not sure who Iron Maiden is, let me tell you: the 3 most famous bands of the metal scene are Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Metallica. There are metal fans who don't like some of this 3 bands, but they all know this 3 bands.

What a lot of young people don't realize is how the building of big loud sound systems to bump that music came up out of the early metal heads in the east coast, then the hip hop guys were like we need to do that too! Music has always been the cultural bridge... well that and food 😋
