On 6 January 2020, Dickinson was made an Honorary Group Captain of 601 (County of London) Squadron RAF.[126] Royal Air Force. Dickinson's interests and non-musical activities include writing, broadcasting, fencing (at which he has competed internationally, placing 7th in Great Britain,[127] and has founded a fencing equipment company under the brand name "Duellist"),[128] beer brewing and aviation. Due to the wide variety of Dickinson's pursuits, Intelligent Life named him as a living example of a polymath in 2009.[129] Wikipedia.

This was like 25 years after the original live performance of this same song. This recording is incredible enough but his voice was on point even more 25 years earlier. Its worth watching even if not as a reaction. Its iconic. Bruce was flying that plane they show at the beginning. He's been a pilot for many years. Yes, they have 3 6string guitars and a bass. All are really good. If Iron Maiden had a "sound" its the layering of the 3 guitars. They jump back n forth taking lead at times, the other 2 typically harmonizing in the back. Just passing by. To help address a few of your questions, the bassist is Steve Harris, the founder and leader of the band. Certainly not underrated though, he's essentially a God among heavy metal musicians and certainly bass players. As for crowd interaction, Bruce is unmatched. The term "scream for me" has been part of the Iron Maiden lexicon for decades now and every fan knows what it means. He knows exactly how to exaggerate his theatrics and sing to the back of the stadium to bring them closer. The band, especially Steve Harris, have been deeply influenced by prog rock in their formative years. Part of the uniqueness of their music is based on the bass player having created their "sound" originally and written the bulk of their music, from the perspective of the bass guitar which is why bass is such a presence in their music. Bruce is able to maintain his vocal strength throughout a concert because he's conditioned himself over the decades and is well aware of what he's in for. Also, he's very athletic, having been heavily involved with soccer and fencing all of his career, so his conditioning and endurance remains unreal given that he's almost 65 now (he was 50 on this tour). The shot of the jet landing at the start of the clip was Bruce in the cockpit. I was at this concert featured in this clip.

I was fortunate enough to watch this tour live twice, the first show here in São Paulo, Brazil, a rain storm ruined the fireworks and a lot of stuff from the stage so they promised they'd be back the next year to do justice to their concert. They kept their promise and came back, the ticket prices were cheaper and ironically once again a rain storm hit us, because of that there were over 20k people outside at the moment the band was supposed to go on stage, then their manager showed up and said they were gonna wait until everybody was in because it was unfair to start it knowing so many people had trouble reaching the venue. Then they delivered the show of our lives. Every band should take note from Iron Maiden about how to keep the fans happy and coming back.

Thank you ! Appreciate learning about Iron Maiden - this phenomenal trailblazing English band that has influenced so very many metal bands in their 40 plus years of existence. So awe inspiring! After listening to Hallowed Be Thy Name and delving into the lyrics (loved it), I just had to do a bit more research. Learning that Steve Harris wrote such incredibly academic yet grounded lyrics based on historical events (Run to the Hills, Alexander the Great) and literature (Charge of the Light Brigade was a fave of my father and grandfather which was the inspiration for The Trooper). Then discovering that they have a song titled Phantom of the Opera - that just called to me. Saw a video of Iron Maiden playing at a festival and the aerial view of the endless sea of fans was breathtaking. The band has received countless awards including honorary doctorates ! What blew my mind is that they have hardly gotten radio play and mainstream support yet their achievements / album sales / recognition / influence on other artists (eg Metallica) but not limited to heavy metal artists are legendary. 47 years since Steve Harris formed the group in 1975 and still going strong! Wow ! How wonderful to learn new things every day! Thank you!

Steve Harris: bass, founder, main writer, band leader. Bruce Dickinson: vocals Adrian Smith: lead guitar Jannick Gers: lead guitar Dave Murray: lead guitar Nicko McBraib: drums The band had always had twin lead guitars. About twenty to twenty-five years ago, Bruce and Adrian left, wanting to pursue their own course. The band hired a new singer and Jannick Gers. When Bruce and Adrian came back, they didn't want to let go of Jannick, so Steve (I'm guessing it must have been him) basically said: "No problem. I'll just change the arrangement of EVERY SONG i'VE EVER WRITTEN to include a third guitar." Crazy to think about!

Right now, Iron Maiden is touring the states - Legacy of the Beast tour plus they are supporting their latest album, Senjutsu. You asked about 3 guitarists: Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, and Janick Gers. Adrian and Bruce left the band in mid 90's. Blaze stepped in as lead singer, and Janick Gers stepped in for Adrian. During their album, Brave New World, both Bruce and Adrian returned to Iron Maiden. Instead of dropping Janick from the band, he stayed in the band making 3 guitars band. They are known as "Three Amigos" by Maiden Fans. All three share leads on each song. You probably know that I am a huge Iron Maiden fan. True, I have since in 1983 with their Piece of Mind album. Nicko McBrain (drummer) replaced their other drummer, Clive Burr who died in 2013 back in 1983. Nicko back in 2009, opened restaurant called Rock n Roll Ribs in Florida. Some of his bandmates stop by there when they are not touring. Nicko jams with local bands in the area too. Link: rocknrollribs.com/

One thing that I haven't really seen acknowledged is that this is an end-of-set number. The band have already been performing for 70-80 minutes and they still deliver huge amounts of energy and just nail it.

My joy in watching his video is your joy in watching Maiden. I've followed the group since 1979, they don't bow down to the media and as you quite rightly said they have forged there own path. The reason they are arguably the best metal band of all time is the legacy they have and the word of mouth that brings new fans to the family. May I wish you success with your own group and thank you for a great breakdown of my favourite Maiden song of all time. Now go forth and listen to the back catalogue you'll not be disappointed.....PJ;)

that's awesome, I seen them for the 1st time live in 1985 (powerslave tour) I was 15 years old, the show was so amazing we went back the next night and bought scalper tickets, and the show was just as amazing but different set lineup, I am 54 now and just seen them again 7 days ago (22nd) at the pond in Anaheim California and the boys sounded great...hey I have fear of the dark in my disc changer right now as a matter of fact "UP THE IRONS"

Just saw them the day you uploaded this video and even after going through cancer Bruce still dominates. Of course aging is evident but I would never hold that against him or the band because they've been doing it longer than most bands and at a super high-level. Throw on top of that the amazing stage production and theatrics and you have yourself an unbeatable show.

They ENJOY themselves so much live! They act like 16 yr Olds. They love interacting with the crowd, cranking out the level of loud noise not available elsewhere.

I didn't see it in your video list, so I'll submit it here. You need to check out Ne Obliviscaris - And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope (Live in Colorado 2016). Six absolutely incredible musicians, clean singing, deep growls, one of the greatest drummers to ever exist, amazing guitars and bass, and a violin that isn't gimmicky. Such complicated composition that it's actually part of the curriculum of the composition courses at the Sydney Conservatorium for Music. New sub, enjoying your reactions.

Yes. 3 guitarists and a bass. Steve Harris on bass. Dave Murray (who left the band for 6 months but in on every album with Harris). Adrian Smith, who left for a while (10 years and two albums) and was replaced with Janick Gers. When Smith returned, Gers was kept on.

Great Reaction! The live performance you chose was from their documentary called Flight 666 (around 2010) and alot of it was when they toured around South America and those metal heads down there are CRAZY for metal. At every concert the crowds were insane. On a side note, the plane you saw landing at the start of the video was theirs (I think a 747) and Bruce has his pilots license and piloted the plane on their tour.
@MsCatstaff2 жыл бұрын
The plane at the start of this video is a leased Boeing 757. They upgraded to a 747 for the Book of Souls tour. If you hunt around KZbin, you can find little clips from the various tours that Bruce piloted the plane, radio chatter between the pilot and ATC... and yes, some of them, it is Bruce doing the talking. Sadly, he's said he won't be piloting the band's plane anymore, as he's now within a year of the international mandatory retirement age for commercial pilots. I heard this from the man himself, at his Spoken Word tour back in February. Bruce is just as engaging as a storyteller in a small club, as he is in the big arenas and festivals. He's said that as the front man, it's his job to engage the whole audience and not just the first few rows - that he tries his best to make the people all the way at the back feel as involved as the ones on the barrier.

I love maiden I really do but saying bruice can still sing is rediculas. He hasn't been right since the cancer, his voice cuts out on certain notes in live performances and is badly covered with echo effects or somthing and his vocals on recent albums have been quite breathy and monotone
