The song is based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854, which took place during the Crimean War, and inspired by Lord Tennyson's 1854 poem of the same name.

Iron Maiden don’t do “rock” songs - they are strictly metal. BTW, this live concert was at the end of a very gruelling world tour so the fact that they can do this so well live is a testament to how good they really are

One of the things that give Maiden their distinctive sound is the fact that bassist Steve Harris has been the main songwriter for much of the band's history but especially so in the early days (these days he prefers to refine ideas provided by the others). This song is a Harris composition and is a classic Maiden "gallop" driven by his bass-line.

Welcome to "Club Maiden" Dawg!!! I was 14 when I first heard Iron maiden and I'm 54 yrs old now and still jam to them. The Lead singer, Bruce Dickinson, has vocal chords made of Titanium!! He damn near hits the entire range of notes and his ability to HOLD a note for so long without taking a breath nor losing the note during the entire time is telling of his abilities as a singer. AND he actually flies his bands charter planes, notably the Boeing 757-200 and then finally upping the ante and flying the massive Boeing 747-400. Google them. "Ed Force One" is the nickname for the bands jet. Iron Maiden is arguably the Fathers of modern Metal and to their fans they are outright Legends and Gods of metal. No band then or since has even come close to the musical talent of Iron Maiden. The dueling guitars, sometimes triplet dueling, the bass guitar keeping a massively fast tempo is not even used in any other bands to this day. Glad you enjoyed discovering Maiden and "up the Irons"!!!!!

Charge of the Light Brigade 25 October 1854 The Charge of the Light Brigade was a failed military action involving the British light cavalry led by Lord Cardigan against Russian forces during the Battle of Balaclava on 25 October 1854 in the Crimean War. The Riff is the sound of horses charging the russian guns. In the end, of the roughly 670 Light Brigade soldiers, about 110 were killed and 160 were wounded, a 40 percent casualty rate. They also lost approximately 375 horses.

The name for us Maiden fans is names that we have made up as Iron Maiden don't give their fans a name. The first name for us is "Troopers" because of the song "The Trooper" from the album 'Piece of Mind' (1984) and the other name for us is "blood brothers (and sisters)" and thats based on the song 'Blood Brothers' from the album 'Brave New World' (2000). I highly recommend listening to Murders in the Rue Morge because its from the album 'Killers' (1981) and thats the album cover that is on your shirt, keep in mind though that their first singer was Paul Di'Anno so if you react to a version that has a different singer thats the reason why, Bruce joined the band after Paul left. Carry on rocking, UP THE IRONS! 🤘🤘🤘

You suffered from premature reactulation on the solo!!🤣🤣 If you didn't notice you got a 2 for 1 on the solos. Both guitarists did one. They do that on a lot of songs. Iron Maiden is the all time greatest rock band ever. I've been a huge dan since about 1984(I'm 52). My all time favorite band, they've created many masterpieces over the years. One of the best being Rime of the Ancient Mariner. I see many others requesting it too. You won't be disappointed. Keep up the good work bro!!! Thanks

This was live after death world slavery tour in 1985, this concert was recorded at California's long beach arena for 4 nights straight, this was a massive world tour, I believe for nearly a year straight, these guy's have toured thousands of times. I couldn't imagine embarking on a tour like this. Absolutely exhausting.
@uncle_thulhu3 жыл бұрын
In case you're still wondering, the song is about the disastrous Charge of the Light Brigade during the Crimean War (UK vs Russia, more or less) in the early 1800s. Basically, they sent light cavalry, armed with nothing but pistols and sabres, up against heavy artillery. It was not a good day for the British...
@deloresmorris37913 жыл бұрын
You think Bruce and the boys (Iron Maiden) taught you a bit of history? Check out the perfection that is Sabaton. @michaelsmith20173 жыл бұрын
So that first "solo" you loved wasn't really a solo. It was an instrumental break. You rated it an 8.5 but you need context so you can rethink your score. Most people reacting to Maiden don't even pick up on the fact that 90% of the guitar parts are two or three part harmonies. It's hard enough for one guitarist to play these songs cleanly but to have a second guitarist harmonizing the lines cleanly....at these tempos....live. Now that's next level shit.
