Michael knew that he stood on the shoulders of Jackie Wilson!! Michael always honored whose shoulders he stood on. That's why he covered all of Jackie Wilson's Medical Bills after he suffered his stroke, that's why he paid for David Ruffin's Funeral, and it's why the first thing he did after buying the Beatles catalog was give Little Richard the rights back to his own music that had been swindled from him decades earlier! He was the epitome of homoring those who paved the road you walk on. And Jackie was most definitely one of them!

@@lynnejamieson2063 Totally! I've heard the story. Seen it, actually. I'm not from the UK, I would have never known who Jockey Wilson was, and I would have been in 1st grade when it came out, but KZbin has a few year-specific Top of the Pops specials, and one of them told a bit about the backstory there. It's a shame that the little funny stunt may have stalled their chart success by getting them a BBC ban.
@lynnejamieson20634 жыл бұрын
M. Roy Clark I don’t think there was a BBC ban and it was a top 5 hit in the U.K. so it was pretty successful. I was only 7 at the time, so it wouldn’t really have registered on my radar (at the time Elvis and The Beatles would have been the only music I actively listened to) but having a brother who is 7 years older than me, I probably did see the episode of Top of the Pops when it aired. I do remember seeing it on ‘The Young Ones’ though, which was another BBC show (this one a comedy)

James Brown! I always think of his early 1960's version of "Think" - and how Led Zeppelin lifted the horn riff of that one to become the guitar riff for their "Bring It On Home". And also check out the "Live" video performance of "FOREVER AND A DAY" by JACKIE WILSON on the "ED SULLIVAN SHOW" . Jackie Wilson was a contemporary of Sam Cooke. They toured together on many occasions, each time there was an internal competition about who would close the show. I consider Jackie the "hard sell" and Sam the "soft sell." Both were terrific in their own way. I would suggest "Stop Doggin' Me Around," "Baby Workout" (personal favorite and highly recommended), "No Pity In The Naked City" and "Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher and Higher." You can't go wrong with any of these.
