Michael knew that he stood on the shoulders of Jackie Wilson!! Michael always honored whose shoulders he stood on. That's why he covered all of Jackie Wilson's Medical Bills after he suffered his stroke, that's why he paid for David Ruffin's Funeral, and it's why the first thing he did after buying the Beatles catalog was give Little Richard the rights back to his own music that had been swindled from him decades earlier! He was the epitome of homoring those who paved the road you walk on. And Jackie was most definitely one of them!

@@lynnejamieson2063 Totally! I've heard the story. Seen it, actually. I'm not from the UK, I would have never known who Jockey Wilson was, and I would have been in 1st grade when it came out, but KZbin has a few year-specific Top of the Pops specials, and one of them told a bit about the backstory there. It's a shame that the little funny stunt may have stalled their chart success by getting them a BBC ban.
@lynnejamieson2063
@lynnejamieson2063 4 жыл бұрын
M. Roy Clark I don’t think there was a BBC ban and it was a top 5 hit in the U.K. so it was pretty successful. I was only 7 at the time, so it wouldn’t really have registered on my radar (at the time Elvis and The Beatles would have been the only music I actively listened to) but having a brother who is 7 years older than me, I probably did see the episode of Top of the Pops when it aired. I do remember seeing it on ‘The Young Ones’ though, which was another BBC show (this one a comedy)

James Brown! I always think of his early 1960's version of "Think" - and how Led Zeppelin lifted the horn riff of that one to become the guitar riff for their "Bring It On Home". James Brown then came out with a new version of "Think" that showed he didn't even need the horn riff to make it a great song! Anything by James Brown is THAT good!

It is so about time. Jackie was the IMO, the greatest vocalist of the rock and roll era. He could sing just about anything: rock, R&B, pop, light opera or gospel. Everyone stole what they could his stage act from James Brown to Michael Jackson. He was the first to do intricate things with the microphone stand. Listen to him doing "To Be Loved", "She's Alright", "Doggin' Around", "Baby Workout", and "That Is Why". Also his version of "Danny Boy" is really special.

Hello Jayvee. I could tell your reaction was very sincere , and it's a good thing you were wearing high quality headphones to best appreciate Jackie Wilson's voice . And you should know that no video exists that shows what Jackie Wilson was capable of.....most videos merely show 25% of the true reality . In any case try listening to Jackie Wilson's original recordings of "I JUST CAN'T HELP IT" and "PLEASE TELL ME WHY" and "MY TALE OF WOE" and "ASK" for the real deal from JACKIE WILSON. And also check out the "Live" video performance of "FOREVER AND A DAY" by JACKIE WILSON on the "ED SULLIVAN SHOW" . And my compliments to you Jayvee for your genuine appreciation of the most talented and gifted rock and roll and rhythm blues recording artist that ever lived.....JACKIE WILSON. Sincerely Mike Vallen.

Jackie Wilson was a contemporary of Sam Cooke. They toured together on many occasions, each time there was an internal competition about who would close the show. I consider Jackie the "hard sell" and Sam the "soft sell." Both were terrific in their own way. I would suggest "Stop Doggin' Me Around," "Baby Workout" (personal favorite and highly recommended), "No Pity In The Naked City" and "Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher and Higher." You can't go wrong with any of these.

He was a favorite of mine for years, ever since I heard and saw him for the first time when in my early teens. He's the total package: an astounding voice, good looks, personality., stage presence, etc. However, there is another like him: his son, Bobby, who performed impressions of him, not realizing he was his son (he now knows). Although there can never be another like him, his son does a believable imitation. He inherited his father's talent.

He was simply amazing! I am such a huge fan of Jackie Wilson. I am going to listen to everything he sung and read everything on him. I just found out that he had a son and he looks just like his father. Bobby Wilson did not know Jackie Wilson was he father until he was about thirty years old . WOW! Just imagine that at the age of thirty you find out who your father is. I would have lost my mind but in reality I would be sooooooo happy. I have listened to Bobby Wilson sing and he does sound a little like his father but absolutely no one can sing and dance like his father did. I was five years old when Jackie Wilson sang the song Work Out. It is my favorite song and I don't know how many times I watched this video. I am going to enjoy listening to and watching all of work. What a beautiful legacy that he left to the world. RIP JW 🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤
