We saw Cocker live when he opened for Tom Petty at the Gorge, 12-13 yrs ago. Joe isn't country, though. Check 'Through the Bathroom Window, and You Can Keep Your Hat On'. I think he may be a genre of his very own...unfortunately.

It was said that Joe Cocker felt the music so hard, he couldn't stop his body from moving, as if it was playing every instrument at the same time.......By all accounts, this amazing man, was the most gentle person you could ever meet, and wore his soul like a blanket, for all of us to see ****RIP GREAT ONE****

For me, this performance was the single greatest highlight of the original Woodstock event. Joe has owned this tune since that time but in that era he and his ensemble produced other standards such as Delta Lady and Feeling Alright for 2 examples worth finding. In fact, find Mad Dogs and Englishmen his raucous tour film from the day and be amazed how any member survived it.

Thank you for your "Wonder" ful reaction! Fun fact about this song: It was from the massive Woodstock concert in 1969 and the thing was such a logistical nightmare that the female back up singers in Joe's band were not able to get there, which is why his two band members were singing falsetto! Love him or hate him, no one can deny that Joe sang with more passion than any other singer of his generation.

That's the truth, Joe was just in the moment, he was totally possessed by the music (and maybe some recreational help too). You still see that ridiculous meme spread about him having been born with some physical disability, but before he became a success at music he was gas fitter, you can't do a demanding manual job like that if you can't control your limbs.

The Ray Charles comparison is 💯 on point. The look you gave each other the moment you both caught it simultaneously ❤️

Don't think I ever sat through this performance without crying wether a few single tears or full blown all out whaling cry.. It just reaches in and pulls it out what ever sat there.. And there it goes, washed away by tears.. Filling up and then Freeing up that space inside

fun fact - the guitar work on this classic was done by jimmy page (post yardbirds - pre zeppelin) when the yardbirds disbanded page returned to the studio or another session while he toyed with starting his own band. While this song skyrocketed to #1 page was busy recruiting for what would become the greatest band of all time.
