Australian music is a hidden hoard of treasure. Most foreigners are completely unaware of its depths: cold chisel, inxs, ac/dc, powderfinger, midnight oil, Australian crawl, divinyls, icehouse, and soooo many others. John Farnham is now in his 7Os. This was a huge hit decades ago. If you want a really beautiful song try ‘flame trees’ - cold chisel. But by way of background, we have a tree here that flowers bright red and is very common (sometimes also called a Christmas tree, because it flowers around Christmas). When you drive around country towns, flame trees are everywhere.

So glad you've discovered John, we down under in Australia have had him all to ourselves forever but it's great to see more & more reactors realising what an incredible talent this man was & still is. This was from 1985, I & many other Aussies grew up with John in the 60's, hearing songs like "Raindrops keep falling on my head" , "One" & "Sadie" on the radio. I remember as a kid buying those singles in the late 60's & still have them. A song I think you'd love is "Please don't ask" performed with our other vocal legend Olivia Newton John at the "Main Event" concert when John was a bit older. He's now in his 70's & still singing brilliantly, enjoy the journey.

This song was actually written by a man in the UK. Who wanted to go out early one morning and protest against nuclear weapons in the 80s..... he slept in.... was so disgusted with himself he and his friends wrote this... I don't know how John became involved.... but he has made this anthem. It still stands today..... whomever of you can vote, demonstrate etc.... DO IT...... his message through this song remains relevant....

John Farnham has true legend status in Australia. He is known not only as a great artist with an incredible voice but also as just a great, generous and open person. He rarely toured overseas, so most people outside of Australia would probably never have heard of him, hear him sing, or attend one of his live concerts. He is over seventy years old now and probably retired from any more performances but he has been showcasing his talents on TV, live concerts, records, tapes, CDs, DVDs and digital media for over fifty years whilst based almost solely in Australia. One of the main reasons he never sought or took up any offers of international touring was that he is a dedicated family man who couldn't bear to leave his family for an extended time or subject them to the rigours of touring just for a chance at more fame and fortune.

This song earned him the the nickname "The Voice" in Australia. He was awarded "Australian of the Year" the year this was released and Australia finally woke up to the national treasures this man holds. His voice, his optimism, his appreciation for those around him and his pride in his country. I love seeing music impact others as much as it did me and this song was like a punch in the face back in the day. Nicely done. PS: First time I've watched one of your videos and now I have your playlist to keep me occupied for quite a while. I cannot, however, go without mentioning your absolutely spectacular eyes. I was a little disappointed therefore you didn’t pick up on a bagpipe solo! Yes. A bagpipe solo! Still the man can certainly sing as you recognised. Our words have power… Imagine you are standing in your kitchen holding a lemon that you have just taken from the refrigerator. It feels cold in your hand. Look at the outside of it, its yellow skin. It is a waxy yellow, and the skin comes to small green points at the two ends. Squeeze it a little and feel its firmness and its weight. Now raise the lemon to your nose and smell it. Nothing smells quite like a lemon does it? Now cut the lemon in half and smell it. The odour is stronger. Now bite deeply into the lemon and let the juice swirl around in your mouth. Nothing tastes like a lemon either, does it? At this point, if you have used your imagination well, your mouth will be watering. Consider the implications of this. Words, mere words, affected your salivary glands. The words did not even reflect reality, but something you imagined. When you read those words about the lemon you were telling your brain you had a lemon, though you did not mean it. Your brain took it seriously and said to your salivary glands, “I’am biting a lemon. Hurry wash it away.” The glands obeyed. Most of us think the words we use reflect meanings and that what they mean can be good or bad, true or false, powerful or weak. True, but that is only half of it. WORDS NOT ONLY REFLECT REALITY, THEY CREATE REALITY… like the flow of saliva. The brain is no subtle interpreter of our intentions - it receives information and stores it, and is in charge of our bodies.

Music 🔉🔊 stimulates the mind with no unwanted side effects and is a form of poetry. Poetry is a type of literature, or artistic writing, that attempts to stir a reader's imagination or emotions. The poet does this by carefully choosing and arranging language for its meaning, sound, and rhythm. Our imagination is a wonderful faculty of the mind. ♥♥♥ “Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe 😎, wings 🦋 to the mind, flight 🕊to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.”

A lot of people love his Beatles cover of "Help" with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, as a great example of his live vocals (no Autotune then). John's voice was built for stirring Anthems. Other power and fun songs of his to check out are "That's Freedom", "Two Strong Hearts", "Thunder in your Heart", and "Playing To Win" (the latter when he was in Little River Band). Then there's the slower yet soul hitting ballad "Burn For You" about his struggles on touring road, away from his wife.

Yes John sings from the heart. He is an absolutely legendary singer songwriter here in Australia (and various other parts of the world!}. You might also enjoy the beautiful ballad "Burn For You" that he wrote for his wife, and all the performances he did with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. John has just had his 73rd Birthday a couple of seeks back. He last performed at the "Fight Fire' Benefit Concert in early 2020 to help raise funds to restore communities devastated by the Australian Bush fires. Much more to enjoy from John and so many other brilliant Australian artists. 😊

where have you been Morenkeiji good question! Never too late to explore John Farnham. A great voice, adoring crowds, someone happy never to have made it big in America. So many good songs to check out will keep you goings for months. My favourite songs of his are 'Touch of Paradise' and 'Age of Reason'. 'Burn for You' another great one. Australian music is a treasure chest waiting for you to explore; and it's a bit different from other countries you have touched. John Farnham is a great place to start.

Love your reaction, I remember when John first started his career, I am Australian and 72 yrs young, I was conscripted into the army in '71 but this song of his so resonates even more so today, we could all listen to this and understand we can be our own worst enemy without considering our fellow human beings, no one to tell us, listen to your heart, what does it tell you? Something is wrong. Stand together, we are stronger together, be good to each other, who are we but humans? Together, it works.
