Hi Guys, you have reacted to John Paul Young (JPY) before with "Yesterday's Hero". Here is another classic 70's Aussie rock song by "squeek" our nickname for JPY when his voice was breaking :) This was filmed on Sydney Harbour while JPY was on a barge. sorry for the poor-quality video but this was more than 40 years ago! enjoy, i know i will!

Am forever amazed that this was written by Vanda & Young, the same team that wrote a lot of AC/DC hits

Think John Paul Young was born in Scotland and emigrated to Australia much like Jimmy Barnes and the AC/DC boys did. So they probably would help out each other in their musical careers if they could. But 1976 is still really early for Jimmy Barnes as Cold Chisel yet to have an album out at that point. But AC/DC were well and truly on their way by then with a few albums and Bon Scott fronting them. I was too young as a child to know any of them in 1976 but certainly John Paul Young was worshipped by the teenage girls. Fairly sure one of my older sisters had a photo of him on their bedroom wall. He certainly could sing though. Do not remember hearing him much by time I was a teenager as the 1980's went on so he clearly was a big local pop star in the mid to late 70's when Abba, Oliva Newton-John, Rod Stewart, Qeeen, Bee Gees, Skyhooks and Sherbet dominated the local radio stations.

George Young is the elder brother of Malcom and Angus Young. Hence his involvement with ac/dc recording. Vanda and Young were also members of The Easybeats.

Fantastic, a sad song with a happy beat, odd but great! That's Sydney Harbour and we used to have a lot of free outdoor concerts! Life was so simple then nobody was off their face or looking for trouble, just enjoying the music was so important! I love the music, and miss it, have a stress free day everyone! 🎶🌅

In 1982 JPY had a big hit with "Soldier of Fortune" He had 20 plus hits in the 70's, in Australia, NZ, South Africa and Europe. Squeak was nick named by Molly Meldrum, the music Guru from Go-Set and Countdown. Molly also named Skyhooks' singer Shirl the Curl. Molly is responsible for breaking ABBA and Mama Mia to the world. ABBA would've faded into obscurity if not for Molly's diligence and persistence. So we've got him to thank/blame. LOL. JPY is a legend and a top bloke. He was a teenage Sheet Metal Worker in Newcastle when Vanda and Young got him into the recording studio. "Pasadena" was his first HIT in the very early 70's. His Band "The JPY Allstars" were the creme de la creme of Australian musicians. JPY went on to have a successful radio career in Newcastle.
