This was one of the hit songs from the movie "Grease" in 1978. Other ones from the movie are "Summer Nights" & "Helplessly Devoted To You". Olivia had so many great songs such as "I Honestly Love You", "Physical", "If Not for You", "Let Me Be There", "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)", "Have You Never Been Mellow", "Xanadu" etc.

This is from a great musical movie called 'Grease' that came out in ~1978, it is based off of a play that was very popular back then. The movie actually takes place in 1958 and you should watch it when you get a chance. The singer/actress Olivia Newton John is a legend and of course John Travolta is Mr Disco himself and a well established actor.

Great reaction. To this day, this is the biggest selling duet globally. John and Olivia remained great friends until her death in 2022. ONJ is an amazing vocalist with a huge catalogue of songs.

I remember when this soundtrack was released in the 70s. All the girls in my grade school class were singing the songs, and acting out the songs on the playground.

Grease was a popular play / musical that played on Broadway in NYC during the 1970s. In the late 70's - it was made into a motion picture - which is what you are watching here. I guess that was almost 45 years ago. I was a little boy and i went with my older sister and my 2 cousins and saw it in a movie theatre. All 4 of us loved it. I still enjoy watching young people like you react to it. Thanks for posting this one.

It was created/written by author who grew up on the far NW side of Chicago, based on his high school days at Taft HS. The school has a sign outside to this day marking the connection to what would start in Chicago, go to Broadway then movie.

They would show this movie on tv every year. My brothers had the vinyl album. I used to listen to it as a kid. The man, John Travolta, is not a singer, but does a good job singing throughout the movie. They both do. Watch the movie so you can see the rest of their performances

The movie (one of the greatest musicals of all-time) came out 1978, but the story takes place in 1959, so the clothes and hairstyles are from the 50s. Dame Olivia Newton-John was an icon and a legend. She sold the jacket and pants at an auction where all of the proceeds went to her Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Center, and the jacket and pants alone got $405,000!. Olivia Newton John and John Travolta were never a couple, but they could have been, that's how great the chemistry was between them. They remained great friends the rest of their lives (until Olivia sadly passed away two years ago).

It's interesting to see you ruminate on this thing from way before your time, love your reaction as always. What was fascinating about this to me as a kid which came out when I was in junior high and being a guy that was more into Lynyrd Skynyrd and Black Sabbath and stuff like that, I wouldn't have gone for it but my first girlfriend ever was into it and so we went and saw the movie twice. And she bought the double album with all the fold-out pictures and posters and everything and this was my introduction to what it means to really accommodate someone and find ways to overlap. So in the end I have a lot of nostalgia for this not to mention that I've watched these people especially John Travolta grow up and do all these other roles for decades and now he's an old man. It's so bizarre.

The story goes as told by Olivia years later was. "“It was the ’70s [when Grease was filmed, and] those pants were from the ’50s. They were old already and the zipper was gone, so they stitched me in,” Newton-John, said at the event. “Of course, you can imagine: I’d have to pee, [so] they had to unpick it and stitch me up again!” Olivia also revealed she managed to salvage the tight pants she wore for that scene even though she had to be sewn in and out of them multiple times! Keeping them in her closet till a few years ago she was to put them up for auction to raise money for cancer. They sold at auction for twice what was expected in 2019 for $405,000.

I'm really liking your comments and observations As per usual comma but To give you a glimpse of why this might Even be significant to somebody of my age comma whereas I was more into Lynyrd Skynyrd and Black Sabbath, rush and Boston and Kansas and so forth, this coincided with me being about 15 and experiencing My First Girlfriend ever. And then that summer when it was really blossoming, this movie came out and it's the last thing on the planet I ever wanted to see. But she was insistent. We ended up seeing it three times and she bought the double record album and we listened to it a lot along with all the other stuff that we listened to on records. So it's just so strange to have this kind of stereotyped image playing right against us as we're experiencing this stuff for the first time. Of course I ended up with a Nostalgia for it because this is the first lesson you learn, sometimes you do things you don't really want to do and then they turn out okay 😀

Has to be little hard for a young person to react this song/video cold without any context. It's fun song on its own, but, at the time, it was a huge hit. Travolta and ONJ were mega-stars. Pairing them up in a musical (Grease) was brilliant. The whole movie led up to this moment.

It's funny you say because of the miscalling of Meatloaf as Meatball lol you have to be careful with names now because we will come for you! But girl, seriously, still you messed up the song name! You said the name was You're the one I want, when it's You're the one THAT I want.
