Joni will go down in music history as one of our greatest singer songwriters. Her clear voice, brilliant lyrics and use of unusual tuning and melodies make for some stunning music. This song is heartrending.

A special pleasure of mine is hunting through KZbin looking for people hearing Joni Mitchell for the first time. Their reactions are always the same - surprise and delight. I think the line 'but be prepared to bleed' was more metaphorical than physical.

I have found the interesting thing for me is seeing a young person like yourself being exposed to certain music for the first time. Joni's album Blue is considered one of the three or four greatest albums ever recorded in this era of awakening of Western culture. It can be forty years later that I hear songs from Ms Mitchell and I still will feel the tears come down my face from her astonishing beautiful music and her voice like no other. I am 76 now, owned record stores in the 60's, 70's and 80's and have been listening to contemporary music of my lifetime for all my life and now, that someone is steered to these treasures for your first listen and see you astonished at the music and voice of this great artist, it still thrills me that there are new people to discover these treasures and it will too affect you in the same way. That is why these videos of people searching for musical treasures are so meaningful.

Phenomenal song and reaction. Watching you smile with delight at each new verse and each musical variation she introduced was most enjoyable. Joni was playing a mountain dulcimer accompanied by James Taylor on acoustic guitar.

Joni has worn many hats during her 6+ decades as a singer/songwriter. She started as a folk artist in the 1960's but during the 70's and on into the 80's she branched out into pop music and even jazz. This album Blue was voted as the "third greatest album of all time" by Rolling Stone magazine in 2020 and the countless number of female artists that were influenced by Joni's music is staggering, you can see her influence even in today's artists. That was a lovely reaction Sarah, cheers from Ontario, Canada!

It is well known that Joni was the greatest song writer and performer of her age, the greatest age for rock music. Joni wrote such beautiful songs that they still stand up in the world of music as unique, and unlike anyone else's work. Her voice, her images, her virtuosity on guitar and piano made her special. I have listened to this Blue album for decades now and it never gets old. It was rated the 4th greatest album ever recorded in the music industry. Sample more when you can.

Joni is one of the greatest music enigmas of the 20th and 21sr centuries. And she is the most untouchable lyricist I have ever encounteted. HOW??? to weave such subtle stories, conversations, complex stanzas, emotional highs and lows together in a way that feels spontaneous, pure and musical?she s the ONLY artist that has achieved this, and she achueved it before she reached 20...

Your reaction was a pleasure to watch. Thank you for being respectful and listening to the song without stopping it over and over. So happy you liked it. How to measure the impact of Joni Mitchell on our lives? I was there, at the beginning, when she (and her music) first shot out of the very new, mindblowing FM radio and straight into our veins. Nothing compares to that. Those who were there, know what I'm saying. The world shifted. Our souls were altered, deepened, reconciled. Joni's music, her lyrics. Concerts, albums! Does anyone remember concerts at the Universal Ampitheater? Clipped the ticket request from the Los Angeles Sunday Times. Checked off the location and seat count, put it in an envelope with a check and, I think, a stamped return envelope and mailed it. MAILED IT. $7.50 a ticket. There is only one Joni Mitchell.

A delightful reaction! :D I appreciate your listening to the "whole package".. lyrics, music, vocal delivery. :D Interestingly, I'd just finished watching footage of Joni singing this song in concert (June 10 2023 performance), more than 50 years after she recorded the album/song reviewed here. (Her vocal range is much lower now, but she still imparts it with a wonderful vocal delivery and heartfelt emotion.)

When this "Blue" album was released, it was a revelation. As usual, you really got the meaning of the song, and weren't only swept up by the musical beauty of it. You mentioned feeling like you were inside the song, that it felt like it was all around you. The stereo mix of the song has this incredible;e surround stereo placement bouncing left and right which really facilitates that sensation. The entire album is an incredibly wonderful complete listen-through.

You start jiving and bouncing like this is an UP dance tune, but very soon you hear she is serious, very serious...she is singing the Canadian National Anthem a bit in there...up here trilling. She is playing the dulcimer- James Taylor is behind her playing chords and the occasional run on his guitar.. but what words, what singing, and what an incredible metaphor....In My Blood like Holy Wine.... I could drink a case of you and Still be On my feet....
