I'm speechless! At last a Joni Mitchell reaction! She hit you where it counts, the heart and mind. Joni is legend, one of the most authentic and unique singer/songwriters to come out of the 1960s/70s. Her lyrical poetry is usually paired with her guitar and piano work. On this track and from the same album, "All I Want", Joni is playing an instrument called the dulcimer. When the "beat" drops, that guitar is being played by her then beau, James Taylor (Fire and Rain, You've Got a Friend). Joni also wrote the hippie anthem for Woodstock, covered by several rock legends.

Joni was incredibly influential as a guitarist and songwriter from the late 60's onward. She invented lots of new ways to tune the guitar for different songs. She wrote the song Woodstock which was a big hit for Crosby, Stills, & Nash. She did lots of styles. She even painted lots of her own album covers. One of the great side-benefits of her magical voice is that nobody ever dared cover any of her songs (apart from kdlang and Care of You, but that's fair) because she is so unique. So the world was spared the likes of Adele trying to do Carey. James Taylor covered River, but he's canon, so that's allowed. Also he knows not to do a Joni on the song. As if.
