Love your reaction to this video, it remains one of my favorites. I cringe everytime she does those high parts, cause that was a time she wasn't taking the best care if her voice. It didn't help that her record company used her like a mule, never letting her rest. She's learned to treat her voice like the precious thing it is, and will properly rest it. A lot of people who are late corners to Kelly's music are always surprised to see her 'rocker' side. Though she excels at every genre, she's a rock baby to the core. You can tell every time she's singing a rock song, her whole demeanor changes and you can see how "in it" she gets. Those are always my favorites! She still kicks off her shoes sometimes, which is endearing. Did you see when she slipped off the stage and fans out her back? She was cracking up over it backstage afterwards. Nothing fazes her! Fans want her to do albums of country, R&B, Broadway, which I also want, but I really would love her to do an album of rock songs. That would be amazing. The rock side of her did not come out on American Idol. She was all Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion, Dionne Warwick and Motown vibes. Definitely react to “Natural Woman” (iconic, fan fav), “Don’t Play That Song,” “Stuff Like That There,” and her performance of “A Moment Like This” right after winning the whole show. If you’re digging this rock side, you have to react to her cover of “Cryin’” by Aerosmith from around this same time (from a Lifetime broadcast), my favourite rock performance from Kelly, seems really therapeutic for her.

She has a large fan base and is still hugely popular, but back in the day she just ruled the air waves. She had hit after hit and became an international star. One thing that changed for Kelly is freedom to do what she wants, when she wants. Creative freedom has just allowed everyone to see she can sing anything and is a great songwriter t?oo.
