@@ldybozz The audience would boo you until they rang the alarm and brought out the Sandman to dance your ass off the stage. The Apollo was RUTHLESS!! Haha... I half agree with that last statement tho. She had a few more hits but nothing on this level. That was a very hard song to top tho.

The chorus of this song was also used by Puff Daddy & The Family featuring Mase and Biggie for 'Been Around The World'. 😉
@makingmnz75643 жыл бұрын
The chorus is repeated a lot in the live version because it is about connecting to the audience, and everybody with a radio knew this song and the chorus, in 1989. Lisa has had an amazing career, even though she wasn't interested in going solo. She released 4 singles from 1981 to 1984, with moderated success. Then the focus was on playing gigs as a trio, at which point someone took notice. The other members, including her soon-to-be husband, became part of the writing and producing team. The big hit with Coldcut gave her the confidence to move forward. Lisa's most memorable songs include Change (Drizabone vocal + Misty dub), Never Never Gonna Give You Up (Original + Classic Morning Mix), The Line, People Hold On, You Can't Deny It, Live Together, All Woman, Set Your Loving Free, and Sweet Memories.

🇬🇧 Lisa was vastly underrated! Her voice is purely jazzy blues & the few times i saw her perform in the past she sang some BRILLIANT Jazz songs In the vein of Aretha Franklin & The great Ella Fitzgerald! The record moguls of the past wanted poppy drivel that would climb the charts, make them boatloads of money Lisa had total class & style & was her own woman, she didnt sell out! She still sings around Britain & abroad, shes got a big fan base in Holland & Germany She's never got herself involved in drugs or booze, Shes too smart for that! As far as i know she still lives in Lancashire in the down to earth working class roots where she was born & raised! The songs on her albums are superb! Great timing & technique One of my favourite female singers along with the recently Departed Irish singer Sinèad O' Connor, Adele & also the departed singer Amy Winehouse. Thank you for your critique on Lisa Peace 🇬🇧👧

Such a masterpiece of a song and she is such an amazing artist. I love how the crowd just keeps shouting go Lisa go Lisa. Brilliant performance and brilliant crowd. Seriously, her performance combined with the crowd...legendary!!! So glad we have this on film. The crowds excitement it's just next level and this just shows you that a good song breaks down all race barriers. I am a skinny 5 ft 6 white kid who was five years old when Thriller came out. I don't even think I thought about his skin color until I was in junior high. The only thing I knew as a little white kid was that the music was amazing and I couldn't get enough. The two times I was fortunate enough to see Prince live there were people of all ages and all Races and all genders in that crowd. One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life. The power of music and a great performance. Sorry for rambling I just love beautiful experiences like this. Thank you so much for reacting to this performance.

Just a sidenote.....you mentioned you loved the energy and vibes of the Apollo.....let me tell you the real deal.....the tv version of the Apollo is nothing like the real Apollo back in the day.....they go way back to like the 1910s.....they use to have amateur nights every weds and the audiences were hardcore and if they didnt like your clothes, your, smile or whatever they would boo you.....they would even boo and run star performers off the stage if they didnt bring their A game.....so what you saw on tv was the watered down version.....if you could get love from a Apollo crowd you could perform anywhere....all it took was one rowdy person in the crowd to get the audience to go off......Apollo is legendary....you can probally google and find old clips going back to the 1930s where some dude similar to sandman is pulling some act off stage with a long cane

I haven’t heard that live version of Lisa Stansfield doing that song and I, love it! Listen to the original version of that song, her voice sounds just like what she’s doing live. That’s rare anymore, but it happens more than people think where an artist sounds just like the CD or cassette tape, with improvisations of course. Terry Dexter is another artist who sounds like you’ve pressed play on cassette because that’s how good she is. Adrian Younge, Damfunk, and Diamond Ortiz are some more. What kills me iz, when people don’t sound like their records at all, or make no effort to give a good live performance, and even their studio work shows you they can’t sang! I think, they must look really cute or people wouldn’t buy their records, or, the fans are so drunk at these concerts that they don’t pay no attention. The general public has proven to me, through all the autotunes, the people who can’t sang, the sampling and coppycatting of all the Oldschool music and the kids thinks it’s new music, that they will fall for anything, because they didn’t do their homework. Thank you Just Jammin, for doing your homework and looking up the good music. I wish more of the newer generation would do that. Real music is still here though and it’s new and not from 1989 and back, the problem iz, it’s on the downlow and you either have to look for it on KZbin, ITunes, or internet radio shows like LOTL Radio, WDKK Radio, Snoop Dogg’s Cadillac Music sometimes, or in some cases, CDBaby. Much love.

The chants of “Go Lisa” are life giving. They loved her and you can tell. She still sounds like this and I’m a fan, but the music isn’t the same. Her first 4 albums are classics - then Face Up came and gifted us with Ive Got Something Better…. She quieted down after that, but still came through, with her last album release in 2018. She deserves her flowers, a UK artist that loved Barry White so much she did her own spin on sexy 70’s soul, and of course, killed it.

Bruh I was only 4 in 89 and I remember this vividly! The whole album was really good, my mom used to play it a lot and I love listened to it a few times as an adult. That beat was big in club music at the time and European club music was also big in NY so many of those songs became hits in the states as well. Lisa Stansfield is from the UK as well so it all ties together somewhat. I kno it felt really good performing at the Apollo and having everyone up like that, that had to be huge validation as an artist! 89-90 had an interesting vibe, with fashion and music etc. a lot of unsung dopeness from those years IMO. Totally understandable and foul that happened. Soul II Soul was dope and 'All Around The World' definitely had 'Keep On Movin'' vibes. Lisa must've been a bigger commercial success because that's one of only things I can see that blind them from giving Soul II Soul their props. Sometimes, all people get hooked on is record sales.
