This is my favorite LS song! I decided to get rid of "That Smell" 1/2/2015. Free and clean from heroin for almost 10 years now and haven't looked back! It has been the only New Year's resolution that I've kept!

Lynyrd Skynyrd was on track to change the world of music, up until Oct. 20, 1977. This song was about Gary Rossington, the guitarist who usually does the slide guitar during Free Bird. Once LS started having money rolling in, he got a new car, got high and drunk and wrapped it around an oak tree. They had several tragedies besides the plane crash. Allen Collins, the tall guitarist with the long red hair, his wife was expecting their third child and she started having bleeding problems. She called the Dr. He told her to stay in bed for 2-3 weeks. After those weeks were up she took their 2 daughters to the movies. She had issues there and died in the restroom. Later he had a car crash, his g/f died and he was paralyzed. He died in his 30's from pneumonia caused by his paralysis. The bass player was found murdered in a hotel room, never solved.

I know how you feel. My sons are both addicts... One to alcohol and the other to meth and heroin. As a Mom, it's been the toughest challenge of my life to watch them struggle with addiction. I just keep praying for them and loving them😥 Love and prayers from western NC❤

Still one of my favorite bands. Their guitar leads and riffs are some of the most melodic and well thought out I've ever heard. Sorry about your loss. I have had several family members battling addiction through the years, and it can really take a toll on them and their loved ones. Skynyrd has another anti drug song called the Needle and the Spoon. The band Steppenwolf probably performs the most intense, in your face, anti drug song you'll ever hear. It's called The Pusher. You should check that one out.

I’ve been drug free since 1986 and the reason for getting off of it was because me and my late husband were going to get raided and if our landlord hadn’t have warned us we would have been in prison
