This album by many accounts is his best overall album even though "Thriller" was the bigger selling album. Sonically, this was the perfect precursor for Thriller to launch from. Off The Wall put the industry on notice that this is not kid Michael or Jackson 5 Michael. He created his lane here and hit the gas with Thriller. Side Note, Randy Jackson is the only member of the family that was allowed to contribute to this album because Michael didn't want it to sound like a Jackson album. Randy played percussion on "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" .

the reason this album has a different feel/sound is because of the album's co-producer Rod Temperton. he is English (i believe) and a killer on those keyboards. he gave this album its sound. if you look into his career of work you'll see common threads in the music his produced and wrote. and this is my second favorite song from this album. "I Can't Help It" was always be number 1.

This my mom’s favorite MJ song of all time this song has a great message just loving freely and leave your problems behind you🙌🏽👑💖💕🔥💫(I personally believe all of MJ’s albums are masterpieces there’s no definitive answer to what’s his best album of all time we know his greatest is Thriller but his best? That’s hard to come up with I feel you should go through all his albums all the way to Invincible which was his last studio album he released in 2001 while he was alive of course also everyone has there favorite MJ album but to me there isn’t a best they’re all his best cause all of his album are so unique and are a capsule in time of where he was at that moment)

I believe it was his greatest album. Thriller of course was driven by a new phenomenon called “MTV” and took on a pop culture life of its own. What fascinates me about “Off The Wall” is you can hear the influence from his time spent living in NYC with Diana Ross while filming the Wiz. He hung out at Studio 54 and enjoyed the pulsating 24/7 atmosphere of the Big Apple. Definitely reflected in this album…

There is such a Massive debate especially along racial lines n america on thats MJ's best album where Black folks say Off The Wall where white folks argue that it ix Thriller ( where in most honesty it was there first major dose of Him. Ironically I was jut going record shopping herein Brazil where I was going to by the Brazilian copy of Off The wall ( which I may-go back to the Pelurhino and do such) I did notice the racil difference at a big celebration for his Birthday in Prospect Park thrown by Spike lee. Black folks were losing and getting into songs from the Off the wall lbum and the Jacksons Album where non Black folks were standing around dumbfounded till things like Thriller and beyond as beingplayed . very interesting paradigm. but I am team OFF THE WALL all day err day
