This album is important because it was not only the first modal jazz album, but for the legends that played on it!

Off the album Kind Of Blue. One of the greatest recordings in music history and arguably the greatest band ever assembled on record.

Awesome! Dig how they circled the song back around to the beginning at the end. Paul Chambers on double bass, Jimmy Cobb on drums. Wynton Kelly on piano. John Coltrane on tenor saxophone. Miles Davis on trumpet (of course). Cannonball Adderley missed the broadcast due to illness. The camera work on that video was exquisite for 1959. The camera positions itself to frame each player with Davis at key moments in the performance, starting with Davis introducing the theme while Coltrane looks on intently. Classic footage. Definite treat!

It's so sad when you have heard the recordings on vinyl or CD, that bass is lost together with the low frequencies... The double bass (Paul Chambers) is very important to hear as clear as possible, because they are keeping a conversation, especially in the beginning . And what can I say about the John Coltrane's tenor saxophone parts... HEAVEN! This album must be taught at schools so new generations learn what is real music like, not those Rihannas, Beyonces or outlet rappers. This teaches composition, structure, sounds & silences, elegance, beauty, art, music...

During the piano solo at (6:10) it's almost as if Miles's trumpet is responding with "So What?" until the (7:00) minute mark. Truly, jazz has a language all its own. (Edit) Great reaction. Do your ears a favor and check out "It Never Entered My Mind". Another great classic with *Red Garland* featured on the piano.

This is from KIND OF BLUE, the one jazz album that everybody knows (unless it's Brubeck's TAKE FIVE); if you ask a rock fan what jazz album he knows, it's probably that. I like KIND OF BLUE -- I mean, who doesn't -- but there are several Miles Davis albums even better, mostly in the 60s and early 70s, in my opinion. Cheers.

Miles prestige 💽 recordings during the 70's was pure undiluted str8 ahead JAZZ, I still have most of those 💽 albums in pristine condition. But that "Kind of Blue" is the best selling JAZZ album ever. I dug Miles up until he started getting to commercial like Herbie Hancock and other cats did !! But you are spot on about miles!! 🎺🎶🎵🎼🎶🎵👌
