This STILL bangs!!! They took alot of heat and sadly, Rob didn't handle it well. Fab actually has a nice voice. They tried to come back after this and they sounded good, but I think the trust was already gone and folks were over them. I think the song was called Do You Want to Get It On and the performed it live on Arsenio Hall's show. There may a clip of it on KZbin.

Facts - the vocalists were great on their 4 big hits. Young bros, now, dismiss this 1989 bop as 'poppy' & dated, not understanding MV were important in mainstreaming hip hop to a much wider audience in their day. Song is not 'hard' by soul music standards, I get it.

@@TheFargo116, you obviously don't know their story. They WANTED to sing. They signed their contracts without legal representation. Later, they discovered exactly what they had signed on to do. They REFUSED at first, but couldn't afford to pay back thei advances, so they were in a position where all they could do is live up to their contract. They DEMANDED to sing in their third album and at that point, someone admitted that they were "fakes", but then recanted his story and was paid off. However, Rob and Fab were sick of the BS and THEY blew up the entire operation.

This was a number 1 song JJ so it had enough "hot sauce" at the time in 1988 LOL. But yeah they didnt sing a note on the whole album and had to give back their best new artist Grammy. Sadly Rob Pilatus in the group fell into a depression over the scandal and OD'd on drugs. They sold 10 million records so obviously people liked the music no matter who was really singing.

They were definitely humiliated when the secret came out that they were lip syncing and the one in red couldn't deal with it. He went into depression and even overdosed but the other guy's life turned out fine. He got himself a vocal coach and eventually started doing shows where he sings the Milli Vanilli songs himself. John Davis who is one of the actual singers that performed on the original songs would perform with him from time to time until his recent death from complications from covid.

Rob had a lot going on. I saw their Behind the Music and he talked about finding out he was adopted, how his dad was highly educated and wasn't really wanting him wasting time on cartoons. He found his father was an American GI and think he said he dealt with being the only Black kid and how he was treated.

Sad thing is that if they hadn't been nominated for a Grammy and exploded the way they did, no one would have bat an eye about this. Nearly every show that artists performed on throughout the 80s had backing tracks that the artists were literally forced to lip sync to. So, why such a big deal for these guys? Their success just ran off without them. Regardless tho, the production value of this entire album is really, really good. There was a lot of talent going on behind the pretty faces and I think it's a damn shame that the deception caused that success to come to a screeching halt, not just for these two, but for everyone involved. They unfortunately took the brunt of the burn.

There is a documentary about this somewhere. If you looked it up or not. Think the story kinda goes. Some record producer decided to record some songs that would sell and rather than find a group or singer to record and produce he paid these guys to be the faces of a made up group released the songs. But when they started to go big the company had to start selling these guys and the singer's and had made the videos of them dancing and pretending to be the singers. Then they did some live shows where they had to do their dance moves and lipsync which turned out bad. Then they got nominated grammys for best new group and best hit song and things started to fall apart trying to fake everyrhing. This album had several hits also. Blame it on the rain and another song went up the charts I think. Until One of the live shows during an award show the recording got stick and kept repeating " girl you know its, girl you know its, over and over. And one guy ran off stage. Rob and Fab ( the fake singer's) took all the heat and ridicule. Till they couldn't take it anymore. Had a press confrence with the news where they confessed to being fake and not real singer's and handed back the Grammy awards they won. One eventually committed suicide years later. Not really their fault .
