I definitely grew up on MCR and couldn’t give just a top 3 if I tried lol…they just have so many layers to many songs. If you enjoyed this one though, I would recommend to you, Welcome to the Black Parade, The Ghost of You or Helena

Fantastic reaction; not surprised at all!! You totally vibe with this... The Black Parade is church for me. Unbelievably light through darkness, passionate exultation!! Beyond masterpiece. Most artists should be so blessed to touched by the divine inspiration that is The Black Parade!!

This entire album is absolute perfection! This is easily one of the best closing songs I've ever seen, maybe THE best. Just FYI, The Black Parade album is a concept album about a guy called the Patient that's on his deathbed dying of cancer. It's an incredible masterpiece of an album, and they actually set out to make it as their legacy album. I would recommend starting with The End/Dead (first two songs that lead into each other) and then going through the rest of the album in order. Top 3 are Famous Last Words, Welcome to the Black Parade, and Sleep.

Do more MCR! They vastly transcend whatever genre people attempt to box them into. They also engage is multilayered storytelling (i.e. - Each album has a narrative and aesthetic), reflect widely varied influences and make great videos.

This is my second favourite song from them, this song is for me epic. Hugs from Sweden. Lovely reaction, ty. The live version from "Live in Mexico" of " This Is How I Disappear " is the best for me. That song my sister knows she'll play for me when I can't move or talk, and on my funeral ❤

I love both the video and song. Gerard hurt his leg and MCR's drummer Bob Bryar was badly burned during the filming but they finished it. When Gerard fell to to the ground, he's actually in pain.

I definitely remember an old cut of the video where you can see Bob visibly worried and pained after the song stops, and then bolts from the kit.

One of the best songs I needed after a break up. Years later it still has that emotional damage I'm looking for. It's heroic in a way. Moving on with our without you. It's also the last song on the album. A good closer.

This was the first MCR song I heard way back then, and it's my favorite of theirs. It's also the song that made me realize I like heavy guitars. Up to melodic death metal.

Your reaction was absolutely great! I've been an MCR fan for about 5 years and I love how they can be so dynamic in their melodies. It's actually a bit of a challenge when it comes to list my top three songs because they're all great to me, but I would say you should listen to Helena, Cancer (such an emotional song!) and House Of Wolves

MCR are fantastic, they are really the defining band for emo. They started in 2001, and they’re still active (took a hiatus of a few years). I know Gerard publicly hated the label of emo and preferred just rock but they really popularised emo, which was of course hugely stigmatised. Anthemic is the perfect word for them.
@sp0ngeb00b7
@sp0ngeb00b7 2 жыл бұрын
he hated the word emo because they didn't make emo music, i don't want to be the "rEal eMo mUsic iS-" person, because, I know the word's been popularised to refer to pop punk. but like, just call pop punk, pop punk! MCR is literally just a hard rock band tho couldn't be them, there's nothing blink-182 or all time low about them.
@sp0ngeb00b7

Also that word literally got MCR ripped to shreds in the press and accused of being the leaders of a suicide cult, no joke, no wonder he hates the word

@@sp0ngeb00b7 I know that, I was a fan of theirs when being a fan of theirs got you bullied. Doesn’t change the fact that MCR made music that popular culture considers emo. The stigma around emo has hugely faded in the last decade or so.

@@mikasinger1167 I can confirm to you that those of us just turning 18 like myself, are still old enough to remember the time when liking MCR got you bullied, sadly. Used to get food thrown at me at school, without all the eyeliner and full emo garb, happens at uniform schools too 😬 And yeah I mean look, again call it emo ig, I'm sure Gerard and co are used to it now. But the gp using its' own language incorrectly issssss not our problem, personally, as a musician I think distinguishing genre is the most helpful thing to find more music you love and "emo" to "society" could mean MCR or it could mean Cobra Starship, and that's not very helpful at all is it? :)

@@sp0ngeb00b7 I really don’t mean to be an ass, but I’m talking about people who are my age, in their 30s, who were fans in the height of the emo stigma, when emo was called a cult, when your doctor found out you were self harming secretly and chose to ignore that because of how you looked (which happened to both me and another friend), when we were sexually assaulted because the joke was that as long as you were holding a guitar you could rape an emo girl. I’m not interested in pretending that an entire social movement didn’t happen because some people don’t like the word. I’m not going to pretend that an entire sub genre of rock doesn’t exist because popular culture decided it shouldn’t.

The sound quality is so bad for the official video on KZbin and, I actually have 0 clue why, but their production is actually very powerful and dynamic indeed! I would refrain from calling them pop punk, because, once you tuck into their other stuff you'll find it's not a very accurate or flattering description considering the diverse influences they write from. Blink-182 are probably the most classic pop-punk sounding band; lyrics from a younger perspective, a frantic tempo or chaotic nature to the song, more lack of dynamics and poppier melodies. There are some "pop punk" bands who tried out darker sounds which could be what you were associating Famous Last Words with but, their content was still largely immature and basic in concept, whereas MCR's albums are all **concept albums** so the "emo" is theatric and character-driven, not based in teenage melodrama and stories from the frontmen's highschool years 20 years ago! Their last album even, is based on Gerard Way's own comic book, and in the music videos they played their characters from the comic :) All love however, no malice, just a little info dump and new folks are always welcome here 💜🤘 GREAT follow up picks would be The Ghost of You, Teenagers, or I Don't Love You. PS PS, Ray Toro is an absolutely wicked guitarist who never got enough credit and a full-album listen woud BLOW YOUR HEAD OFF, this man has solos and riffs for days he's the best of that era for sure

Back in the day, MCR had a weird rep. They were the biggest and most famous 'emo band' on the planet in 2006, and that title made A LOT of people dismiss them and not want to even bother. But their lyricism and theatricality was unmatched.

Also, 1000%, the reason actual pop punk singers get soooo much sh1t for the "pop punk voice"/whininess/immaturity is because the majority of bands are younger and inexperienced and yes not that great. But if you actually look at the figureheads/most largely associated vocalists - Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy), Hayley Williams (Paramore), Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low), Brendon Urie (Panic! at the Disco) they're literally the best popular rock vocalists out there right now!!
