I was like 10yrs old when this dropped. I remember this was his break out single and my older brother and his friends was anticipating the video but I remember them criticizing the video cuz it was just images of him rapping but this single was a classic and his breakout single along with NY state of mind. Still to this day Illmatic is probably the greatest album ever dropped with no famous features just Nas going hard on every track. Every song on that album was a classic!

The "braggadocious rap" style is an MC staple... if you listen to most hip hop from the '80s and '90s, that's mostly what you're going to hear from any artist... because hip hop is based on battling and attitude.
