Nas was one of those rappers who was embraced by both the streets and the backpackers, because his lyricism was top notch. The two crowds started to really diverge by the late '90s and '00s, when mainstream rap turned extra commercial.

FUN FACTS 1- In order for NaS to use the HUMAN NATURE sample by MICHAEL JACKSON, Mike told NaS he could use the sample only if NaS didn't curse. 2- NaS originally was supposed to use the JUICY FRUIT sample by MTUME, but BIGGIE 'S song JUICY blew up first. 🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🐐

The "braggadocious rap" style is an MC staple... if you listen to most hip hop from the '80s and '90s, that's mostly what you're going to hear from any artist... because hip hop is based on battling and attitude. You have to believe you're the best and that no one can fw you. Even the B-boys and DJs battled each other. That actually goes back to jazz. Jazz cats were battling each other back in the 1920s. They used to call it "cutting contests," because their instrument was called an "axe."
