AZ, who is the only featured artist on this seminal album, was unknown back then. This song was the first time we heard him on wax, and he managed to land a record deal off this one verse (which is considered a hip hop classic). Nas has released (and continues to release to this day) many amazing songs. Here are some of his most iconic songs if you want to react to one of those: "NY State of Mind", "The World is Yours", "Memory Lane", "It Ain't Hard to tell", "The Message", "I Gave you power", "Nas is like", "One Mic", "Made you look"... 90s WestCoast is called G Funk. The sound you're thinking of is the funky worm (anything from Ice Cube or DeathRow for reference). 90s Eastcoast is called Boom Bap (chopped/looped samples with old drums, hi hats with swing)

Nas was better at rapping but Pac brought such strong emotion with his lyrics and rhymes like no other else. Nas captivated with his great street poetry and Pac captivated with his emotion. Pac even studied poetry so I guess its a fair comparsion.
