if you're going to listen to more Neru sometime, 3 big songs i recommend are Tokyo Teddy Bear, Abstract Nonsense, and Whatever Whatever Whatever (II-YA). the first two are pretty much the same vibe tonally and lyrically as this one, but II-YA is a much more upbeat song, if only by sound alone. great reaction, i look forward to more! there's almost zero vocaloid reactions on KZbin so these videos are always a treat :)

@@GOTGames Well to be fair, the Japanese alphabets/characters (except Kanji, which can be broken up) are basically the syllables, so it more easier for them. However, those who use a Vocaloid or a Voice Synthesizer in English or a language that doesn't have alphabet syllables would have to sound it out manually or use Japanese to make it sound as close as possible.

With this song it is highly recommended to watch it with subtitles or translated. It has very powerful lyrics. What I love about Vocaloid songs is the range of topics that the composers/producers portray. One thing you will bop to a song about drinking vegetable juice (Hatsune Miku - Popipo) then you will reflect on society with this (Kagamine Rin - Lost Ones Weeping). We love you to delve deeper in this wonderful world of Vocaloids. One of my favorite to listen to from Kagamine Rin is Meltdown and I Like You, I Love You, the first one has depressing meaning while the other one is so fluffy and sweet you will get diabetes.

Not sure if people still really describe them as such, but the Kagamine's used to be known as the "Tragedy Twins", as they were often used in songs with pretty sad stories 😂 A few examples right off the top of my head: Daughter of Evil / Servant of Evil Prisoner / Paper Plane Proof of Life / Soundless Voice

As many have said, Neru is the name of the producer of the song (like DECO*27) and the vocaloid is Kagamine Rin! If you want to hear more from Neru, I really recommend almost anything from this album, but the title song “world domination how to” is such a FANTASTIC song, and almost an answer to Lost One’s Weeping. I adore it, and maybe you’ll like it too! Happy listening :)

Really love your message! I'm quite struggling a bit after the pandemic and I had to study online instead and your take is really refreshing! And about how Vocaloid works, it's basically MIDI + text-to-speech...if that make sense lol. It's basically like a piano key that you can type words in and change the quality of each notes.

Lost One's Weeping is indeed an amazing song and the lyrics are so relatable to some. Also, your message at the end was very nice! I remember when I first stumbled upon it I just thought it sounded nice, but when I started reading the lyrics I realized that I actually related so much, it was like someone put into words what I didn't know I felt. I say didn't know because I've never been really attached to my emotions... I've always had good grades and performed pretty well at school, and without realising I started putting myself an unnecessary pressure for everything and the worst thing is that it wasn't even by the others, it was I who did this to myself. I remember having several breakdowns in class because of it, to the point to be taken into my school's psychologist, yet my parents simply neglected it and said it was short-termed stress and refused to take me to a psy, it just got worse and now I probably have burn-out and anxiety. But I still cling to the fact nothing has ended yet. Well, sorry for this rambling and amazing reaction as always!

I really love how hyped you are with each vocaloid reaction. I'm autistic and vocaloid has been my special interest for 9 years. Aside from when I was grounded when I was a kid I've never gone a day without it lol. It's always been such a strong support for me during good and bad times, so long as there's vocaloid playing I'll always have at least a little bit of joy no matter the situation. I'm really glad people view it much more positively now, back then it was seen as weird and pointless and ear grating. Looking forward to more from you.

JubyPhonic actually does a brilliant English cover w/ piano which is gorgeous. Both the rock and sadder piano versions to this song work incredibly in different ways, I’d absolutely recommend listening to both versions. The original conveys the hatred, resentment, anguish and anger of a kid who just wants to know the answers and how he can go back. Whereas the piano cover focuses on the sadness, loneliness and the despairing feelings

the way vocaloid programs work is (as far as i know) that you type in the lyrics you want them to say, and then obv give notes for them to sing those words in, and essencially hand-tune the entire "singing" part. if you are curious im sure there are tutorials online or tuned vs. untuned videos!

I got absolutely hooked on vocaloid during my early school years (5th grade in germany) mainly because of the song topics. Thanks to the voicebanks, so many more people have gotten the resources to create music and get their thoughts and feelings out there. My family is majorly unfamiliar with anything mental illness/disorder, so me having a (by now also diagnosed) stress disorder coupled with chronic depression was just a total catastrophe. I didn't know why I was such a failure compared to my family and stuff was just not handled right. Vocaloid songs were the firs thing that allowed me to put words to whatever was wrong with me. And to this day, I still find songs that are unfortunately incredibly relatable to many people. In the end it's just great that more people now have the chance to share their emotions and find people who share their struggles and people who overcame these things and can provide some hope.

to answer your question of HOW a Vocaloid works, lemme explain :D (Sorry in advance for the bad english 💔) VOCALOID actually is the name of a software that lets you use synthetized voices. In VOCALOID u can use Voicebanks, and the Voicebanks is nothing else than the voices of characters like Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len, Hatsune Miku, Kaai Yuki, Megurine Luka, etc. The Voicebanks works like this: They find a voice provider for the character, like it is an anime character, then the voice actor records a series of fragments singing/saying (in japanese case) every character of their language individually. What am I saying? Lemme explain more simply :D In case the case that is a Japanese voicebank, then they record every single hiragana (Japanese syllabary) in a neutral tone; A I U E O Ka Ki Ku Ke Ko Sa Shi Tsu Se So Ra Ri Ru Re Ro And so on Then, when we have all that recorded (There are voicebanks that even include breaths, whisper, laughs, and other kind of sounds), then we have our Vocaloid Voicebank. Now we go to the VOCALOID sofware. In that program you can edit those fragments to do a song, and you can edit even the pitch and add growl-like voice. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHrJhYaPi7h-rM0 This is a little example of how it looks like :D This is the VSync program but is pretty much the same as Vocaloid software. Curious fact: We call all of them Vocaloids, but there's actually a BIG LOT of other characters that are called like that but doesn't even work in VOCALOID software 👁✨ For example: IA, ONE and Koharu Rikka (VSync), Kasane Teto, Sukone Tei and Yokune Ruko (UTAULOID [Like a free version of VOCALOID, that even let you make your owns voicebanks]). Another curious fact: A single character can have more than one voicebank! And some vocaloids have this kinda V with a number next to it, like V3, V4, V5, etc. That's the version number, and each version have like voicebanks-pack ^^ In most of vocaloid's, at least. I hope I explained myself as I entended for my low english level AA I really love Vocaloid so is a pleasure for me to talk about it 💜 Hope it helps, love ya'll 💗💗 P.D: I just got to your channel a couple days ago and I LOVE your reactions 💌

Hell yeah! This is such a great one, and a classic. I mentioned some vocaloid songs on another comment, utsu p - death law, pinocchioP - godish, deco27 - parasite, and kikuo - aishite aishite aishite But also, for something a bit different, might wanna check out Yameii - oseanworld (lil uzi vert, madeon, etc) and rapper deko came together to create an english vocaloid rapper icon using avanna's voicebank. Recommend "Synesthesia", "Hate IF UR MAD", "Cyber Baby Angel pt1", "Pur", "Portal", etc. Kinda in that order. As far as how it works, there can definitely be quite a bit to it, which is apparent when comparing some of the best producers to those just starting out, some can make it particularly more realistic sounding, or put their own stylistic sound to it - all using the same voice bank often. Compare some above for examples.

From what I can remember, The story is supposed to be about how school life starts off as acceptable and easy to the eye, it’s there to build a character that can withstand themselves but as time progresses and you move up the grades some people fall down and eventually lose themselves in one way or another. Some to a point the vessel (the kid with the paper over his face) and their cognitive self (the other kid) begin to fight eachother. Begging your empty paged self to “WAKE UP!?” And “what the hell do they mean ‘grow up’?!” But the vessel gives no answer nor does anything as it’s literally tied to the chairs. Eventually he takes off the paper, showing that he’s his own person and he’s willing to try again. (Memory is a little hazy but that’s just the top…)

Something really cool about Vocaloids and other voice synthesizers is there actually is a person behind the program. They record syllables, notes, and phonetic sounds that a composer can then use basically as an instrument to sing the song! It's such a fascinating and deeeep rabbit hole. Especially with the beautifully heartbreaking songs. "Hated by Life Itself" always gets me right in the chest: a lot of Vocaloid producers are absolute geniuses.

the last three aren't just three songs connected to eachother, it's a massive fantasy franchise called Evillious Chronicles with an extremely complex lore, over 60 songs and over a dozen novels and lots of other content such as manga, short stories, lore-filled album booklets, etc. for the Story of Evil arc/Pride arc that you're thinking of alone there's about a dozen songs, four novels, a multiple volume manga, and multiple short stories (it's obviously the most popular arc in the franchise and has the most content.)

(including me ;;) As I spend many times at school and see other Japanese students, I feel that many students unconsciously feel big pressure about their future and thinks that everything will end if they fail at entrance exam. So your message at the end of the video really encouraged me, and I think it will also encourage other students who is struggling about their future and themselves. Thank you for transmitting your story and thank you for your interesting reaction and comments! :)

This song is a vocaloid classic! If you want similar classic vocaloid songs, there’s a really fun one called Brain fluid explosion girl that is approaching its 10 year anniversary and you will probably be interested in. If you want a more recent vocaloid song, I really like “love ka” or “bocca Della verita”, both by hiiragi kirai.

Seriously, you can never go wrong with Neru and Wowaka, they indisputably always rock. If you listen to another Neru song, PLEASE listen to either Snobbism or This Disease Called Love. Yes, you can make them say whatever you want, and you can also edit how they are being pronounced and the inflection of the voice and everything. So yes, it's kind of like text to speech, but advanced and used for singing majorly and talking minorly. And the voice banks and engine that run them keep getting more advanced, giving you the ability to make breathing sounds, growl synthesis capabilities, etc. Yes, Vocaloid songs almost always tell a story, and even when they don't, they still have a meaning and are based on something, like with this song the struggles of adolescence.

Neru is far and away my favourite Vocaloid songwriter! If you're looking to hear some more from Neru, I'd recommend Tokyo Teddy Bear, Whatever Whatever Whatever, and Law-Evading Rock (his most popular besides Lost One) and FPS and Terror (personal faves). Nearly all of his songs use Rin and/or her male counterpart Kagamine Len Besides Neru, I would recommend: - Hated by Life Itself by Iori Kanzaki ft. Hatsune Miku (specifically the GORGEOUS Magical Mirai 2020 live arrangement, listen to this one if nothing else) - Ten Thousand Stars by CircusP ft. Miku English (Circus is easily the best known English-language Vocaloid creator) - ECHO by Crusher ft Gumi (English) - No Logic by JimmyThumb ft. Megurine Luka - Lagtrain by Inabakumori featuring Kaai Yuki (you liked Rolling Girl, so I think you'll really like this) - BRING IT ON by Giga-P featuring Kagamine Rin and Kagamine Len - Hyper Reality Show by Utsu-P ft. Miku - Sand Planet by Hachi ft. Miku (Hachi has since gone on to have a very successful singer-songwriter career under his real name, Kenshi Yonezu; he did the OP for Chainsaw Man) - Honey I'm Home by GHOST ft. Dex (English) - KING by Kanaria ft. Gumi - Meltdown by Iroha ft Rin (the OG angsty-beautiful Rin song) - Villain by Teniwoha ft. V Flower - Ego Rock by Three ft. Len - I'm Glad You're Evil Too by PinocchioP ft. Miku (a slower ballad, might make you cry happy-sad tears) - Leia by Yuyoyuppe ft Luka - Karakuri Pierrot by 40mP ft Miku - Patchwork Staccato by Toa ft. Miku - Sad Machine by Porter Robinson ft. Avanna (English. Robinson sings alongside the vocaloid) - Ohedo Julia Night by Mitchie M ft. Miku, KAITO - Transparent Elegy by n-buna ft Gumi - Bocca della Verità by Hiiragi Kirai ft V Flower - Q by Siinamota ft Rin - Machine Gun by Kira ft Gumi (English) - Tell Your World by kz ft Miku - Charles by balloon ft V Flower (I personally don't like the original vocals very much, but there's a lot of absolutely incredible covers - I think the singer Raon has the best one) - anything by Deco27 (the dude's written so many songs its almost scary, can't narrow down just one to rec) - Parties Are For Losers by Ferry ft Yuzuki Yukari (English, though Ferry originally hails from Belarus and has a few songs with Russian lyrics. This is the first song of a series which uses the lyrics/videos for storytelling - specifically, a story which re-imagines Soviet philosophical sci-fi as a teen drama. It slaps)

If you watch Rishie-P using Eleanor Forte to cover of 4BLOOD, you can see the Vocaloid program working! The creator of the song types in syllables and phonetics, arranging them at various pitches, adding on different tones like growls or tremors, and when it's all done, they hit play and it reads out!

At 31 I'm now 3 years into a part time Computing and IT degree, and working with a software company who are helping me grow. Please keep on everyone!! Neru tends to do this alot!! Idola no Circus is about peoples pressure to preform for social media. Law-Evading Rock is about looking to argue against societal pressures Snobbism seems to be a bit of a politician mockery. All in all they are either epic or fun to listen too. A good singer for Engliah covers of vocaloid songs is Oktavia !!

Something I remember from a sociology class I took a long time ago was the teacher's claim that Japanese (eastern?) music often features events, objects, and places (so, *concrete* things, basically) prominently, and use them to allude to the emotional message, while western music is almost 100% focused on *emotion* from the get-go, with only minor references to such concrete things.

The Japanese education system is famous for being stressful, you can tell hiw much of an impact it has in even some of the most light-hearted anime and manga and songs that feature it. From the despondent student characters to the homework and exam themes chapters and episodes. There seems to be a major outcry from most of the Japanese pop culture scene to change something.

ah Lost One's Weeping an all time classic . So basically one person record every syllabe and/or sound possible to create a Voicebank. Then you can buy the vocaloid software and the Voicebank. After that it's just like mixing. Vocaloids can sound very different depending on how the producer decide to tune them. Some producers chose to make them sound almost like a real huma being, others really embrace the "robotic" aspect of the voice. It truly depends on the producer skill/will. By the way, Utsu-P prove to us that Hatsune Miku and Kagamine Ren can sing Metal Grindcore songs and I'm all for it You also have "Appends", basically the voice giver record the same syllabe/sound but on a different tone so you can hit even more notes without distorting the voice.

Basically, what gives life to a vocaloid is the base voice bank, wich is provided by an actual person (In the Kagamine twins' case, voice actress and singer Asami Shimoda). Then you can tweak various pitches, reverbs and vocals with it, along with editing pitch length, height, and whatnot with an editing software. And just like that, you're a Frankenstein of the musical world. It's actually amazing

So many vocaloid songs are very deep and dark and strike listener's hearts in their own unique way. There is a countless number that the comment section is already recommending but I'm going to add my own recommendations to this list. The two songs that I recommend are "Hated by Life Itself" and "I want to be your god." Both of these songs aren't the best vocally in my personal opinion, but their lyrics strike so deeply. They are composed by the same song producer. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWfKh2mFiMaUnsk - This is an english subtitled version of the original vocaloid song of "Hated by Life itself." kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6ClhpKljrV3eZo - This is also an english subtitled video of "I want to be your God." However, unlike the previous song, I've linked the english subtitled version that an Internet Singer sang named Megatera Zero. Megatera Zero is one of my favorite internet singers of all time as he adds his own unique choruses to every cover (and has recently been putting out his own songs that are very heartwarming and touching!) Again, personally I don't think the singing of the vocaloids in the original versions of these two songs is particularly striking, but these two songs contain lyrics that, in my eyes, strike at the core of what it means to be human. "Hated by life itself" is the darker of the two songs but its lyrics end in a very nice way. "I want to be your God" is more about empathy the singer has towards the listener but again, its lyrics end quite nicely. If you, or anyone else in this comment section, decides to check these songs out, I hope you all can resonate with the lyrical content as well!
