And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air festival 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k audience. Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. As I saw, you enjoyed the powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Hope you'll continue on this path. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (powerful operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. A lot of fans call the vocalist (Floor Jansen) a metal Valkyrie and a keyboard player (Tuomas) a metal Mozart since he is responsible for all those beautiful sounds and lyrics. A lot of Nightwish songs are composed similar to classic music and the lyrics are very much poetry :) This band is a truly unique phenomenon on a global scale ;)

Our Dutch Valkyrie Queen is considered the best and most versatile female singer of our time. To see how she developed this, check out her former bands 'After Forever' and 'Revamp'. She joined 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. My favourite song is 'Energize Me'. They made a very nice music video from this one. They disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song, from full operatic to serious growling in seconds. The songs 'Disdain' and 'Wild Card' are good examples. Then the call came from Nightwish in 2012 to fill in for the remainder of the American Tour at first. But the rest of the World Tour followed also. After she became a permanent member of Nightwish after this Wacken concert (the official announcement came later, but it was clear that this combination was made in Walhalla), she kept performing with 'Revamp' for a couple of years, but it became obvious, that she could not combine the two much longer and they disbanded in 2016. Her side project 'Northward' is also worth a look. The song 'While Love Died' shows yet another side of Floor. Her mindblowing performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country, where she was relatively unknown until then. Also on KZbin there are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor uploaded many interesting videos in the last year, such as chats with her idols and other singers. mindblowing covers, vocal masterclasses and so much more. Her 'Fan Friday' videos are hi;arious. Just go to her KZbin channel and unpack some of the presents she left there. Floorgasm alert! The video she made reacting to herself doing this performance is a must see. Lots of technical info and some memories of her early days with Nightwish.

Well, yes and no about the keyboard stand. While is is a prop of sorts, it is inspired by the monument to Sibelius in Helsinki and has a few hidden secrets, not limited to wine bottle holder and keybard illumination. The rest are best left as surprises, but you can see which pipes are purely decorative as they are slash cut while those with some functionality are square cut. It is also mirrored the other side of the stage with a smaller version which serves as a stand for Troy to put any whistles he isn't currently playing in while he plays something else, although as he isn't on stage for this song it isn't illuminated so not very obvious.

Hey NWA Calgary here, Just a little FYI, you might want to use headphones when listening to Nightwish. They have a lot of nuances in their music that is lost when you just listen to the laptop. Welcome in the world of Symphonic Metal and their most famous representator Nightwish. An amazing band with very diverse and complex music and incredible musicianship as you already heard. Floor Jansen (pronounced Y-ansen) is considered to be one of the best and versatile singer of our times, the keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen - one of the best composers. You haven't heard the male vocalists and bassist Marco Hietala yet but if you do more NW reactions you will notice he's amazing vocalist too (too bad he resigned recently from the public life and the band but we still hope it is temporary). Glad you liked it and hope to see you soon in another Nightwish reaction..

If you are having trouble with understanding the lyrics I recommend turning on the subtitles. They are definitely available for this whole Waken show. I also recommend reacting to or just watching this whole concert. After I watched this for the first time 3 years ago they became the best band in the world for me. I am still upset I never knew anything about them before that.

It is modelled after a famous pipe organ sculpture at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. /// The keyboardist is the maestro who composes this music (including the backing tracks performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra) and writes the lyrical poetry. Most Nightwish songs are a sharing of his inner soul and "heart." He has sometimes called Nightwish his personal diary. So the story you hear here is about his view of life even though he writes it in a female voice for the vocalist to sing his own thoughts back to him. The title can be interpreted different ways by different listeners of course, but my best "dowsing" of his intentions when we wrote it is that it refers to a young man so madly infatuated, to the point of obsession, with a particular woman that it consumes his life and blinds him to his path ahead. Although the real woman who is the object of his infatuation is very much alive and well, he comes to realize at this point in time that he is in love not with the real woman but with a "ghost," his conjured mental image of what he wishes she was, and now his world is falling apart with that realization. The real woman is not interested in reciprocating his longed-for romance....the thing he has always "wished for his nights" (his "night wish" n'est ce pas?) ...."My fall; Will be; For you. If you be the one to cut me, I will bleed forever. My love; Will be; With you. You were the one to cut me. So I will bleed forever!" .....Probably nearly every young man who has ever lived can identify to some extent with this sentiment.

Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, agility, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a soprano with a range of more than three octaves (D3 to F6). It is apparent when listening to her sing that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a vocal coach herself. It is incredible how she is able to take any song and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet.

Greetings, and welcome to Nightwish and symphonic metal. The 6 foot Dutch Goddess of all things vocal is Floor Jansen (yan•sen) The keyboard player is Tuomas Holopainen and he's the founder and composer of the band. The Orchestral and choir arrangements are prerecorded by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Metro Voices and Children's choir. The Viking looking fellow is the bass player and vocalist, Marko Hietala. He has written some songs and also contributed to other compositions. The Hobbit with the guitar is Emppu Vuorinen. lol The pirate on the drums is Jukka Nevalainen. And an elusive member you didn't get to see, is Troy Donockley, he is a multi instrumentalist. The band is from Finland, Floor is from the Netherlands, and Troy is from the UK. Floor is the 3rd and current singer for the band and was acquired by fate in late September 2012. She was given the task of learning the setlist in 48 hours and walked onto the stage with Nightwish for the first time on October 1st 2012 in Seattle, Washington.
