According to a 2015 interview with Tuomas in _Metal Underground,_ he said, "The underlying theme of the song is nothing less than the meaning of life, which can be something different for all of us. It's important to surrender yourself to the occasional 'free fall' and not to fear the path less travelled by." And according to Marko, this song is about making the most of one's life. 👍

Thomas never reveille's the meaning he feels. Because his songs are self-explanatory. Or have a specific meaning for every other person listening to it.

This is a special one . Tuomas Holopainen said: "'Oh, while I live to be the ruler of life, Not a slave. To meet life as a powerful conqueror, and nothing exterior to me will ever take command of me.' This beautiful quote from my hero Uncle Walt [Walt Whitman] was the starting point for writing 'Élan'. "The underlying theme of the song is nothing less than the meaning of life, which can be something different for all of us. "It's important to surrender yourself to the occasional 'free fall' and not to fear the path less traveled by." However, I think this song allows you to give it your own interpretation. NWSU 🤘😎🤘

This was the first Nightwish single with Floor. Tuomas writes the lyrics for most of the Nightwish compositions. He is a poet and a musical genius. Once upon a time, English speakers did not have élan (the word, that is; we have always had the potential for vigorous spirit). We had, however, the verb elance, meaning "to throw," that was used for the launching of darts, javelins, and similar weaponry. Elance is derived from the Middle French (s')eslancer, meaning "to rush or dash" (that is, "to hurl oneself forth"). Elance enjoyed only a short flight in English, largely falling into disuse by the mid-1800s, around which time English speakers picked up élan, another French word that traces back, via the Middle French noun eslan ("dash, rush"), to (s')eslancer. We copied élan in form from the French, but we dispensed with the French sense of a literal "rush" or "dash," retaining the sense of enthusiastic animation that we sometimes characterize as dash. The music of Nightwish is bringing a new vigor and joy to all of these old people who are toiling at their dreary daily jobs. By the end they are dancing and rejoicing in the spirit of Elan.

I’ve heard this song a hundred times, I sing along with the harmonies in my car when I’m driving home… I’ve never seen the lyrics until this video. XD I’ve always thought the song was beautiful and I understood the message of it, but the individual lyrics have always eluded me. They’re beautiful. As much praise as he gets for his musical compositions, Tuomas is just as much of a genius lyrically and poetically.
@conradamber2 жыл бұрын
Elan is a good one, and pretty deep and poetic. Elan means the driving force of live itself. The song is about not forgetting to live. To do more than just work, follow all the rules, day after day but to see the beautifull in the world, to find joy, to enjoy yourself. there are a few "easter eggs" in there: where the cliff meets the sea is a reference to where Floor met her husband and the decided to have a go of it together. The owl at the end watching the party is Tuomas, forever observing, forever outside. Great reaction, so much more to go and see. If you're going for the video's: try "over the hills and far away. That video has pictures from the personal collection of the bandmembers :-). funny and glorious moments.
@christomashofski91602 жыл бұрын
Floor and Hannes met on tour in Grand Rapids, Michigan. That lower tier of Michigan is flat as a pancake! There are no cliffs greeting the sea. G.R. is quite far inland and is not anywhere near the sea. If you drive about 35 miles due west of Grand Rapids on I-96, you will come to Grand Haven on the shore of Lake Michigan. If you park your car, you can walk across smooth sand directly to the water's edge right at water level. No cliffs. Just clarifying the facts so that false info is not spread.
@ronnoe67082 жыл бұрын
Huh. I always thought the owl was also related to Floor because of the tattoo on her right arm. Now I can see, in this video, that it looks like she doesn't have it yet. I wonder if this is the inspiration for it. 🤔

If you want to hear a beautiful song with amazing lyrics, react to the lyric video of "The crow, the owl and the dove" with Nightwish. There are several videos made by fans and with cellphones but the quality is not good. And if you do the lyric video you automaticly get the lyrics. Win win. Its Anette who sings together with Marko. I have no idea what a lot of this song means but the line "Write a lyric for the song only you can understand" pretty much sums up that only Toumas knows what it really means. Another video you should check out is "Ayreon - the day that the world breaks down". So much talent there and several familiar faces too.

And I am 58 and you are absolutely right they write their music very intelligently Thomas is a genius . My brain is also too small for there music. Lol. The only part that I can intelligently break down is the woohoo. Lol. I enjoy your reactions the most out of all reactors. And I am glad you are going down this rabbit hole. Keep on keeping on. And also you might want to take it out at all the songs that Floor has done on besta signers can't go wrong with that either. Now on a night with some maybe my Walden. If you haven't done it already.

Tuomas…the keyboardist…writes the vast majority of the music and lyrics. His songs are very often very personal and introspective and, as a result, can often be a bit difficult to interpret. The emotions, however, always come out in Floor’s singing. You may not understand the specific words, but you’ll get the intended emotions. Speaking of that…I’d recommend Dead Boy’s Poem live from Buenos Aires as a perfect example…the emotions Floor wrings out of the lyrics and sends out to the listener are pretty powerful in that one.☮️

Apologies if you have already done this, but perhaps Ayreon is the fifth “band” you are thinking of, not that Ayreon is a band, more a project of a Dutchman named Arjen Lucassen. He writes the songs and then gathers the best musicians and singers he can find to perform them. The best place to start would be “The Day That The World Breaks Down”, as Arjen adds a bit of commentary as to what is going on in subtitles. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXfYfn6ap9-Dp7c

Keep going, not bored yet!! This is the first single from Endless Forms Most Beautiful (it was originally going to be a different song but Tuomas was persuaded this worked better). It does the job beautifully - it's atmospheric, upbeat, and sounds great. Delain is one of the 5 big Symphonic Metal bands next to Nightwish, Kamelot, Epica and Within Temptation. Dutch Symphonic Metal Band DELAIN has just released a new single for an up-and-coming album. The single is called THE QUEST AND THE CURSE. Keyboard player Martijn Westerholt has brought about a major lineup change in his brain-child band, bringing back the original drummer and guitar player who were both on the first two albums, and along with a brand-new singer and bass player this is one kick ass tune! Nightwish (checked), Epica (Checked)... maybe that one band you're missing is another Dutch symphonic metal band called Delain? Their Live at Paradiso 2016 is magical. Thank you for another fun video, it's so nice seeing someone discovering and thouroughly enjoying new music. As for recommendations: you mentioned Epica so maybe the other band people might have suggested could've been Within Temptation (another Dutch band!). I personally love their breakthrough song "Ice Queen". And if you want to know why you can now admire Floor so much, it's thanks to Dutch metal band The Gathering, who then had female vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen (from 1994-2006). Anneke inspired her to go metal! I can highly recommend listening to "Travel" ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2WZfZmqlKeNrtE ) or "Nighttime Birds". If you want to hear Floor and Anneke sing together with Marcela Bovio then there is the beautiful live version of "Valley of the Queens" by Ayreon.
