Hello The Honest Take [ @TheHonestTake ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). @@Dr_Alchemicshe is, for opera style. Tarja is a one trick pony, and while she does that one trick very well, she isn’t anywhere near as versatile as Floor honestly. And Floor can nail the operatic style perfectly too, having gotten better over time in addition to her other styles of singing; the harder gravelly rock style, the power belting, soft angelic singing, resonant opera style. And there’s mind you from me honestly zero disrespect meant to Tarja either. Again what she does, she does WELL. Very well. But to compare the two, there’s really no contest on whom is “better” Just remember though lastly, the two have performed together and seem to be good friends. Look up Over The Hills where they co sang it 😊

Nightwish is very complex, and this is one of many songs they have, they can go super hard or even Celtic folkish, and every song is a new story and journey. This band is no one trick pony, and if you continue you will see.

The symphonic instruments you hear are actual backtracks from The London Philharmonic Orchestra. All instrument parts were written by Tuomas(keyboardist) and recorded in London. Same with the choir. I went back and tried to hear the flaw you think you heard in Floors voice, and I think you misheard it. The only time she is not on perfect pitch is when she is sliding into it, which she plans. The lyrics are written by Tuomas too. Nightwish has a unique sound of their own. It has been called Symphonic Metal because the word to describe it hasn't been imagined yet. No two songs are the same. I haven't heard a bad one yet. Some are better than others, because every song can't be your favorite. Several of the best reactors/vocal coaches/composers/music teachers have said that Ghost Love Score should be a teaching tool for music theory master classes. That should be one of the songs you react to ASAP from the same Wacken 2013 concert. I saw them in May 2022 in NYC and they were phenomenal. We are very protective of Floor. She is our Valkyrie. And please do listen live...Nightwish is one of the very few bands I would prefer to listen to live vs. studio. Tuomas, on the keys, writes the music and lyrics, for the main part. He gets input from the band members. But he's the genius behind those chords. And Nightwish never does what you expect. Please keep going, you've barely scratched the surface. Not sure if Floor cares about Goth so much, as she just wears what she likes. The Nightwish Army cometh, and that Right Soon!

It sounded surprising to you cause you expected a rock song, but this is not rock. It's metal, symphonic metal to be more accurate. Floor was killing this song, as she killed this whole concert together with her brothers. The whole concert is this quality, there is no wheezing or wobbling in her singing, she sings what she wants and how she wants. She does it all from operatic to death growls. The orchestra you hear is the London Philharmonic which also played Lord of the Rings. Nightwish is a deep Rabbit Hole, enjoy your journey. 🖤🤘🏼

The bull skull is the logo of Wacken Open Air. The festival takes place in an agricultural environment where there are also cattle. The first attempt to pronounce Wacken was correct. The festival is in Germany and one of the oldest and largest metal festivals. The song is part of the album/film music Imaginerum and describes the main character. The organ pipes are fake and hide three keyboards. The orchestra and choir are original recordings that run as a backtrack. Floor controls around 3.5 octaves. Two are normal. Nightwish is inspired, among other things, by film music/musicals, rather than opera. Therion does more opera. As a photographer and videographer, I can relate. When it comes to Nightwish live videos, some are great and sometimes I want to strangle the editor. On some videos I swear the camera crew were whacking the vodka before the shoot. Sounds like you dabbled in Nightwish during their opera days with singer no. 1. Floor Jansen is their third singer and ya, she does the opera stuff, but she'll also do deep death growls and everything in between. You'll need to react to a few dozen videos with her to start to get her range. And then we get to her genre range . . . German rap anyone? About the harmonies, well Nightwish is classical music played with double kicks and distorted guitars, so buckle up your music theory if your want to continue.

Great Reaction Bro love the insight .....if you continue Nightwish reactions, youll find out that there's alot of layers to them , this is more of a commercial side to them ,a little poppy especially the chourus ( it was written for Anette the 2nd singer whos very poppy vocally) so i hope you continue . Floor is an absolute beast of a vocalist can literally do it all from soprano to growling in a heartbeat . Shes more Valkyrie than Goth , although she definitely had a Goth period with her 1st band After Forever ( your wife might like them , there Excellent) . I wonder if you've read any of the interviews with her from that period or talked to anyone who knew her in the early days of AF? (I have.) Point is: calling AF a "gothic" band, or even worse, calling Floor a goth girl back in the day would be a guaranteed way to get punched in the face by a Thor-like fist, sending you directly to Walh-Allah. She could get REALLY pissed off about people calling every female-fronted band "gothic"! Keep in mind that there is a big difference between the American and European goths. In an interview from January 2006 (in Dutch), she explained very clearly what she perceived as "gothic" (which 100% corresponds to my perception as well). She considered goths utterly fake and untrve, and didn't like them at all. There is some goth influence on the early AF material and their looks (leather outfits etc.) There never was any in their lyrics and general attitude. They were a mix of death-doom with progressive and power metal from their very first album.

This reminds me of a time when I used to shave my head and wear a leather jacket, so people assumed I was a skinhead. Then I grew my hair out (and kept wearing the jacked), and people started assuming I was a punk, goth, emo - or maybe a fag... I find it funny. Until they try to beat yer arse up... :)

Faites le Ever Dream qui commence comme une douce ballade voix piano et sur un signe de Marko ( le bassiste ) continue d'accélérer pour finir comme un train à grande vitesse, habituellement les nouveaux réacteurs commence par le Ghost Love Score avant de passer à du plus lourd avec Ghost River. ou encore plus lourd avec Romanticide..... Hello dear reactor, I was at their last concert this year 16th June. Their live shows and music is just every one should experience. They played almost all my favorite one, was missing the 'Song Of Myself' but maybe they do not play that ever again. The last song they played was 'The Greatest Show On Earth'.....and I was sold. I tell you, if you ever have a chance seeing them live..go! KZbin videos are nothing comapred to what you see them live. When I drove back home (from Vaasa city to Oulu city, about 400 kilometers), I did not listen to radio, nothing. I was just quiet. Thinking what did I just saw and listened. I know Kai Hahto is current drummer and very good and professional. In this concert Jukka Nevalainen is drumming and I admire him so much. He plays so good but he has his that own style I love. Look at the rest of the Wacken 2013 songs and see, that Jukka's style 🥁 When years back I saw Jukka's drumming and his style...I've been wearing bandana ever since 😎

@The Honest Take: Brother, you asked for a band with a blend of genres -- so I have a band recommendation: Indian folk metal band Bloodywood. Hailing from New Delhi, India, Bloodywood is an electic mix of traditional Indian instrument sounds, electronica, and a Linkin Park-style mix of rap and metal. They rap in English, and sing in Hindi and English, and feature both clean vocals and growling. Here are my Top 5 Tracks: 1) Jee Veerey (Hindi for "Brave One") 2) Endurant 3) Yaad (Hindi for "Remember" or "Memory") 4) Dana Dan (Note: This song may be sensitive for some viewers, as it is about SA. I advise doing pre-reaction research for this song, as well as turning on the Closed Captions for the video.) 5) Aaj (Hindi for "Today") In closing, Bloodywood is a very socially-minded band. They aren't just 100% independent, but they have done things out of their own pocket most bands have never done, like pay for one-on-one counseling sessions (when they released the video for Jee Veerey), or when they paid fully for, and donated, a new van for an Indian animal rescue (when they released Yaad, a song about losing loved ones, including pets). They are an awesome group of guys, and should you react to this band, you won't be disappointed, I guarantee it!

. Floor says one of her early vocal coaches told her to bend at the waist put her hands on her hips and windmill her hair(she's Dutch). She says she's never had any neck problems since then(25 years =/-). This song is really "catchy" and all the reactors say it's a big favorite. Be sure to read Gabriel_Bardac's post he's the go-to guy for all things Nightwish.

It's pretty fun to hear your opinions about music - you are off in anyway at all. BUT you have just stumbled over Nightwish without knowing what universe you have just opened. There are reasons why Tuomas are known as 'the metal Mozart' & the modern Mozart. He composes his music, often in chapters like classic music - and his lyrics are deep poetic stories, often complexed with deep serious matters. He is one of the very few composers able to combine all the exceptional talents in the band, add some symphony backing, and then enhance the stories they are telling. Floor in front - yep you are on to something - in 2019, she won a prize for building bridges between the genres of music!! There are literally nothing she can't do - and do in a way no one else are able to - and I'm not kidding !! You ain't seen or experienced nothing yet - still not kidding! Floor is bar far the greatest storyteller ever - and she can use different styles in the same sentence, from death growl to operatic sounds outside the octave scale. Their version of 'Phantom of the Opera' from november 2022 ( Ziggy Dome), are a great example of the mixing you talked about. I liked you reaction - and you just opened the door to the Nightwish Universe - something you simply didn't know exist - and that's fair enough - you are not the first. And by now you have met a fraction of the Nightwish Army - a few hundred thousand very keen fans from all over the world - very eager to open your eyes, ears and mind, to something exceptional ! And please just ask us anything - the lyrics are complexed, written to individually interpreted - but we can provide you with background and hints. After this you should search for The Greatest show of all by Nightwish and listen to that, it's amazing!!! Fun fact, Floor that now sings in Nightwish is married to the drummer in Sabaton! Nightwish have had three singers where Floor Jansen and Tarja Turunen are the best, and their all schooled sopranos. (The drummer is fantastic)

Funny that it's mostly Murricans who classify anyone who wears leather and a certain kind of makeup as "goth". Reminds me of a time when I used to shave my head and wear a leather jacket, so people assumed I was a skinhead. Some punks, goths, emos and particularly aggressive queers would try to beat me up. :) Then I grew my hair out (and kept wearing the jacket), and people started assuming I was a punk, goth, emo - or maybe a fag... Some skinheads would now try to beat me up. I find it funny. Until they try to beat you up... :)
