Thank you!!! Nightwish really changed my view of metal bands and Tarja changed my view of metal singers. Tarja's voice really introduced and brought me to metal and rock. Nightwish actually has had 3 vocalists (plus the basist singing in this one, Marko Hietala). Anette Olzon was the second one who was between Tarja and Floor. All of the singers have actually quite different voices.... they are pretty easy to recognise from each other. Marko is also such a good singer! He is my favourite male metal vocalist. I didn’t see this exact performance live but I saw the performance of this song when Tarja and Marko sang it live together this year (neither one of them is no longer in Nightwish). It was amazing!😄 I love the song Slaying the Dreamer, especially the live performance from this same concert (End of An Era).

Thanks for reviewing this performance. Simply the best cover of The Phantom of the Opera. You can pretty much pick any song from this concert to review. Also, Tarja's solo career is amazing. For me, she is even better since departing from Nightwish. A couple of examples to illustrate are the live songs, Innocence from Circus Life, kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqKQmJikeraBgqM or her cover of the Muse song, Supremacy, from Woodstock (or Milan ~ Act II) kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2bddpVrrauff6c. This was Fall, Helsinki, Finland 2005, "End of an Era" Tour concert. I was 18 then, I was there! 'm now 37. Beautiful venue, beautiful country!!! This was the last time we heard the Siren, the Viking, the Pirate, the Vampire & the Zombie all perform together. I'll never forget it... Cheers from Portland, OR!

Hello Andrew [ That's Andrew ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Helsinki in 2005, then together with Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tar-rya], the 1st female singer of the band, and Marco Hietala, bassist and singer. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile). There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). It is my first time hearing Nightwish. I've herd a few symphonic metal bands in my day mostly from Japan not from other places. It's awesome discovering bands from other places in the world which I've been really enjoying doing lately. Definitely expect more Nightwish tracks down the road for sure.

If you are going 'forward' in time, the next singer was Anette, but most NW fans would suggest skipping forward to the 2013 Wacken concert, in which Floor Jansen was introduced to Europe as the new NW front person (she had joined the band 10 months earlier during the 2012 tour in N/S America and Pacific Rim, iirc). Anyway, I personally would start with that show's opening song, Dark Chest of Wonders. But there is also a lot more to view from this show (2005 End of an Era).

I was there - so I can recommend that you watch more End of the Era concert: Wishmaster, High Hopes, etc. The band was their best: Holopainen, Vuorinen, Nevalainen and Hietala. Then the hired guns (singer) - everyone have their opinion who is the more better than others.... My opinion is that Marco is the best.

This was great! Tarja and Floor are both amazing vocalist! Floor Jansen (current vocalist of Nightwish) also did her version of this song, but I prefer this one with Tarja. Floor is also one of the best female vocalists (if not the best) in the world. Can’t wait for you to react more Nightwish!

This is my favorite Nightwish version of "Phantom." Tarja is perfect for the vocals, but it is Marko (bass/second vocalist) who makes this version for me. His snarly, growly, slightly manic version of the Phantom sets you back a bit at first, but it is so right for the part. I happen to dissagree on that one. She is great but i think i vould place Noora from Battlebeast higher. Cant say that she is the best on the planet becauae i havent heard them all so she may be it in your opinion and everyone is entiteld to a opinion ....... but is it a competition and can they even be compared, and how? 🤔
