She was not just an amazing singer, she was an amazing dancer too. And her special glow, that angel, that charisma was something definetely out of this world... @@en6278 Yeah, Xanadu was considered too cheesy for most audiences even then. At a time when people were wearing headbands and legwarmers, no less. At the time there were many tabloid headlines, for instance, Gene Kelly, himself an uber-mega-GOAT. He was like 56 in this movie, and in a nod to his dancing background for which he became famous, he served as the choreographer for this movie. (He's the dude in skates at the beginning). In fact, if you want to watch the entire sequence it's here kzbin.info/www/bejne/mny2c2WFZ7ibqtU and it is FANTASTIC.

I think as a female artist she was subjected to a lot of unnecessary moral preening, specifically around the time "Physical" came out. She actually had to rehabilitate her image significantly after that, but otherwise you're correct. She was one of the GOATs. She appeared on stage with other GOATs.

She started here in Australia, had a lot of hits, very wholesome, almost country style music, then turned up in Grease. I think that surprised everyone, but hey, she was awesome. After that she tried to shake off the image with 'Physical', but that was just funny. Xanadu was her next film I think. She was a mythical, muse on roller skates, who helps some guy find his true calling in life, but of course they fall in love, complications ensue, yada yada yada. That information is totally incorrect. She was born in England. When she was young her family moved to Australia. Then as a teen she won a talent show. Part of the prize being a trip to England. Once there she won herself a recording contract with Decca. So her hits were recorded in The UK and she was regarded as a staple of the British music scene. The songs were also a hit in Australia but that could hardly be regarded as her starting out her career there

As much as I love Jeff Lynne, John Farrar showed his brilliance on this album. That being said, you have to listen to All Over the World from ELO on the same soundtrack. It is one of the very best finely crafted pop songs ever! Here are a few of her songs to check out. Olivia's career arc is very interesting! This movie is very underrated. Also check out ELO’s ”Don’t Walk Away” from Xanadu. Another great song by Olivia N-J is ”Twist of Fate”.

Xanadu is a bar or a discotheque if I remember well. This song was part of the Xanadu film soundtrack.

A little context here: this is the theme song to the most bizarre movie musical ever. Everyone involved must have been on some really amazing drugs. How ELO got talked into doing this is beyond explanation. Xanadu was the last movie that the legendary Gene Kelly appeared in. It was a hell of a note to end a career on. This movie has to be seen to be believed. It's definitely one of those so-bad-it's good movies. Xanadu is the name of an ancient mythical paradise, and now it's come to stand for "unearthly paradise" in general.

Saw this on VHS with my first girlfriend back in the 80's. She thought it was gonna be a good girly movie. It was so weird all we could do was laugh in confusion. The cast was great. The music was really good. The whole formula was there. Then they gave acid to a toddler and let him control the story.

One of my favorite movies from when I was growing up. It also started Gene Kelly in his last movie. Xanadu was the place at the end of the movie. A must see!

Olivia had health problems in the 90s (primarily breast cancer) which curtailed her career. Xanadu was a trippy 1980 movie that Olivia starred in. Xanadu was an ancient Chinese city that was considered a paradise, but in this film, it was the name of a rollerskating rink/nightclub where most of the movie takes place.

I love this song so much that I would put it on repeat over and over again lol! I never get tired of this song. 🥰 Brings me back to my childhood. Next song should be “Magic”!

Xanadu was the name given to the skating club in the film which you see her in on the video here. In the film, she appears again at the end of this track dressed in a glorious glittery dress to sing the chorus once again.

Her voice has always been excellent. You should check out 'Magic' or 'Sam' - she has loads of cracking songs.

Olivia was huge in the 70's & 80's. ELO wrote the music for the movie Xanadu, this video is a scene out of that movie. ELO also sang this on a track for one of their albums. Olivia is absolutely beautiful, and sings like an angel. May she rest in peace...🕊

ELO wrote half the songs. I love the songs that John Farrar wrote for the movie.
