She was not just an amazing singer, she was an amazing dancer too. And her special glow, that angel, that charisma was something definetely out of this world... This song in specific, the collab with ELO, both lovely, sweet, elegant and magical styles... Is simply perfection in all senses of the word. ❤️

@@en6278 Yeah, Xanadu was considered too cheesy for most audiences even then. At a time when people were wearing headbands and legwarmers, no less. At the time there were many tabloid headlines, for instance, Gene Kelly, himself an uber-mega-GOAT. He was like 56 in this movie, and in a nod to his dancing background for which he became famous, he served as the choreographer for this movie. (He's the dude in skates at the beginning). In fact, if you want to watch the entire sequence it's here kzbin.info/www/bejne/mny2c2WFZ7ibqtU and it is FANTASTIC.

I think as a female artist she was subjected to a lot of unnecessary moral preening, specifically around the time "Physical" came out. She actually had to rehabilitate her image significantly after that, but otherwise you're correct. She was one of the GOATs. She appeared on stage with other GOATs.

She started here in Australia, had a lot of hits, very wholesome, almost country style music, then turned up in Grease. I think that surprised everyone, but hey, she was awesome. After that she tried to shake off the image with 'Physical', but that was just funny. Xanadu was her next film I think. She was a mythical, muse on roller skates, who helps some guy find his true calling in life, but of course they fall in love, complications ensue, yada yada yada. She is an amazing woman, has been battling cancer for many years, and has created a chain of wellness clinics for people battling cancer. She is an amazing human.

That information is totally incorrect. She was born in England. When she was young her family moved to Australia. Then as a teen she won a talent show. Part of the prize being a trip to England. Once there she won herself a recording contract with Decca. So her hits were recorded in The UK and she was regarded as a staple of the British music scene. The songs were also a hit in Australia but that could hardly be regarded as her starting out her career there

@@personalcheeses8073 Sorry to offend you so much hon, I may have worded my comment in a way that could be misinterpreted, I was trying not to make it too long. When I said started here, she was a regular on a few TV shows here from About 14 yrs old, the talent show she won was here a few years later, then she waited about a year to finally go to the UK. Her professional recording career started in the UK, her career started here, I'm not bothered, that's just facts.

This was 1980 so...basically still the sound of the 70's. It seems to take a few years for a decade to develop it's own identity. The music in Xanadu is a lot better than the plot. Olivia is a muse to the artist lead character. And she may or may not be only in his imagination? Trippy film.

Olivia is one of my favorites along with ELO. You can imagine my excitement when I discovered that they were both the featured artists in the movie Xanadu! John Farrar is her song writer, producer, arranger. He is amazing. Farrar wrote and produced the Olivia songs on the Xanadu soundtrack. Including many styles and instrumentations. As much as I love Jeff Lynne, John Farrar showed his brilliance on this album. That being said, you have to listen to All Over the World from ELO on the same soundtrack. It is one of the very best finely crafted pop songs ever! Here are a few of her songs to check out. Olivia's career arc is very interesting! I Honestly Love You Have You Never Been Mellow Come on Over Sam Don't Cry For Me Argentina Hopelessly Devoted To You Totally Hot Magic Stranger's Touch Physical ( Billboard magazine #1 song of the 1980's) Twist of Fate Shaking You The Right Moment Thanks for choosing Olivia. The movie: ONJ played Kira, daughter of Zeus. She was a muse. Over the course of many years, she would be sent to help inspire men to achieve their artistic dreams. But she was forbidden to fall in love with any of her progeny. She then helped a failing artist to create a disco dance club called XANADU. She fell in love with the guy. She had to ask permission from Zeus to stay with the guy, he agreed but she would lose her immortality. She agreed. Its a love story.

WAITAMINUTE......Is the Hostess that looked like her in the end,The Amnesiac Kira,That Lost her immortality? Is that what you mean,Niccole? To Jayveee..She`s right....It is about a Muse Called Kira That Falls for a Mortal Called Sonny, and Vice Versa....Basically,it`s a Fantasy Story, with A Musical Twist to it.... The NAME Xanadu Is a Historical Place in China These lines Kind of describes the near Paradisical Area: In Xanadu did Kubla Khan A stately pleasure dome decree: Where Alph, the sacred river, ran Through caverns measureless to man Down to a sunless sea. So twice five miles of fertile ground With walls and towers were girdled round; And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills, Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree; And here were forests ancient as the hills, Enfolding sunny spots of greenery. As it Implies,It Is a Near Paradisical Area/Section Of China...It`s Cute,Can be funny,Hopeful, and wonderous(the movie I Mean),Mixed with Amazing Special affects,Along with hope, love, loss,And Great Actors,Including the Dancing Legend Gene Kelly...It`s Worth Watching...Oh...They Did not show that the End of the Song was Huge Finale,Where Kira,Along with the Other Muses did a Goodbye dance, and along with Kira saying goodbye to Sonny...It was Spectacular!

So when this song came out I was very young and I fell in love with it, it had such a majestic feel and her voice felt like magic. I had no idea who ELO was then. Now that I do, it makes perfect sense that I loved this so much. I just love how their music makes me feel. The song is from the movie Xanadu, which I thought was great when I was a kid. Not sure how I’d feel about it now but I should check it out for sure. Thanks for bringing this one back into my life!

Olivia's very first hit was a song called 'If Not For You,' in the year 1971. Other hits from her in the 70s were, 'Let Me Be There,' 'Have You Never Been Mellow,' 'I Honestly Love You,' and 'Please, Mr. Please,' among many others.

Xanadu is a musical film. The soundtrack is full of ELO songs as well. I remember as a kid, listening to this on 8 track. My favorite song from the album is “Don’t walk away”. The movie is campy but fun, and who doesn’t love a roller rink?

She did a great job on this and the movie even tho it was kinda hokey but I mostly love this song because of ELO. So yes, there is a movie with Olivia and Gene Kelly is in it with ELO music. This is a clip from the movie, major extravaganza back in 1980...this is more like the musicals in the 1940s. It was hokey but also a cult favorite I guess.

I saw this movie when it came out in the theater and loved the songs and performances by Olivia Newton John and the legend Gene Kelly. Olivia had several hit songs in the 1970's. Note: She met her husband (now divorced) Matt Lattanzi while filming Xanadu. He is the dancer with long brown hair and in a red sweater dancing with the woman with long black hair in the purple top at 4:30.

A little context here: this is the theme song to the most bizarre movie musical ever. Everyone involved must have been on some really amazing drugs. How ELO got talked into doing this is beyond explanation. Xanadu was the last movie that the legendary Gene Kelly appeared in. It was a hell of a note to end a career on. This movie has to be seen to be believed. It's definitely one of those so-bad-it's good movies. Xanadu is the name of an ancient mythical paradise, and now it's come to stand for "unearthly paradise" in general.

Saw this on VHS with my first girlfriend back in the 80's. She thought it was gonna be a good girly movie. It was so weird all we could do was laugh in confusion. The cast was great. The music was really good. The whole formula was there. Then they gave acid to a toddler and let him control the story.

Olivia had health problems in the 90s (primarily breast cancer) which curtailed her career. Xanadu was a trippy 1980 movie that Olivia starred in. Xanadu was an ancient Chinese city that was considered a paradise, but in this film, it was the name of a rollerskating rink/nightclub where most of the movie takes place.
