When OMD was approached by John Hughes to suggest one of their songs for Pretty In Pink, they selected one called "Goddess of Love". Unfortunately the test audiences hated it, so they wrote If You Leave in less than 24 hours. It then went on to hit the top 5 in the US, Canada, and New Zealand.

Kinda right. The movie had a different ending which goddess of love was written for where Ducky ends up with Andi. The test audience hated the ending and so they reshot it and Blaine ended up with Andi. They needed a new song for the new ending and If You Leave was written and recorded in 24 hours.

This is one of the rare bands that I'd get in the car in the '90s and just put on their "Best of OMD" and just DRIVE. I'd likely skip a couple songs now and then, but the sound ranges so much. They were really unique in their music in the '80s/90s and their fans are pretty devout. My first concert was these guys opening for The Thompson Twins with a friend and his dad. We were almost in the top row of Oakland Coliseum. All of the smoke from everyone below was rising up to us. I was blazed out of my mind and had no idea what was going on (12).
