The song is about a virgin woman he fell in love with so much that she was the sun to his universe (you will hear references to suns, stars night aka black). He was her first and she was his everything. She has left him, and he can no longer cope. He references "sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay" to get the point across that she was inexperienced and he taught her everything. He feels his life will be forever "tattoo-ed" in the black emotions of his depression.

Vedder's voice is essentially another instrument in the band. Check out Release form the album "Ten" and "Indifference" from the album "Vs." Fun Fact: Peal Jam's previous band name was Mookie Blaylock( name of a former New Jersey Nets(NBA) guard). Mookie's lawyer's told them to stop, so they went with Peral Jam. Their first Album is called "Ten" because that was Blaylock's number.

Pearl Jam are from the early 90s grunge era and fall into the category of the big four. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains. PJ, Nirvana and AIC all have MTV Unplugged sessions that are basically legendary and worth watching all the way through. I would also include Stone Temple Pilots in that list although the genre may not necessarily be full on grunge for them, or Alice In Chains for that matter. In any event, if you check out these four bands, I can promise you the grunge fanatics will swoop down on this channel and bombard you with requests. Pearl Jam's debut album called Ten is a classic. Not one bad song on it, just banger after banger. If you listen to the audio of Black, you will still enjoy it, but this performance is really the gold standard of that song. Next up, the uncut, official video for Jeremy and/or Porch, live at Pink Pop. 😄

On the 2011 book Pearl Jam Twenty, Vedder said about the meaning of the song: It's about first relationships. The song is about letting go. It's very rare for a relationship to withstand the Earth's gravitational pull and where it's going to take people and how they're going to grow. I've heard it said that you can't really have a true love unless it was a love unrequited. It's a harsh one, because then your truest one is the one you can't have forever.

His live version of this song dedicated to the recently deceased Chris Cornell, of which he worked together in the band Temple of the Dog, and one of his closest friends, is one of the most haunting things you will ever hear. Try some Chris Cornell as well (Soundgardern, Audioslave, and several others, as well as solo). He had one of the best voices ever. If you pay attention to the tattoo parts, you know how you might get a tat that was inspired by your girl, or one that she picked out, or even her name? Well now imagine having that same tattoo covered up, turned to black. Nothing in the world 🌎 hurts like losing the one you thought was everything! This song is older than y'all! The lyrics are about his relationship with his first wife, Beth Liebling, who he had been with since 1983. I saw PJ for the first time in 1991 at the Michigan State University auditorium. I had a free ticket and was bored. So I went. The 80's hair band garbage was still trying to remain relevant. So I was almost expecting to see a group in neon spandex, eyeliner, and huge, over-processed hair! They took to the stage, which was extremely understated for a hair band, and they blew us away with this new sound! Grunge took over and everyone I knew was all in for the ride! I've seen Pearl Jam 11 times and I have to say that Eddie Vedder is one of the few singers who sounds just as great live as he does on a studio recording. To get the true essence of Eddie, you need to watch a live stage performance! "Porch" from Pinkpop 92 really displays Eddie's epicness!

We were super spoiled in the ‘80’d-‘90’s! Most artists could sing well ( at least in their own genre) and then could sing well “ Live” as well. When I first started watching reactions, other reactors would always comment or ask their followers if the artist sung with auto tune. Then most of them would catch themselves saying “ Oh yeah, auto tune didn’t exist back.” I just feel sorry for fans of your generation, and always having to wonder if they’re favorite artist could sing well live or if it was just a front. About 20-30 years ago we were more concerned with whether they would sing live at all or just lip sync during concerts so they could perform crazy dance numbers instead of just singing... There were all kinds of mis-haps because of this, but I think the Biggest Sham was the duo “ Milli-Vanilli” they put out an entire album and even won a Grammy,( but had to return it, because they didn’t sing on their album, it was different people singing, and they were just the facade lip syncing and dancing along”. It was pretty crazy that anyone had the balls to even try to do that! You should check that story out sometime. Soon after... MTV started hosting these “ UnPlugged” sessions to certain artists... basically strip their songs and instruments down to the bare bones & just enjoy the music. It was also a way for the artists to prove they could sing and maybe play with the arrangement of the songs... most of these “ Unplugged” versions are acoustic versions of the studio release. Anyways... sorry for the novel, great reaction thanks! 👍😎🤘🎵

The singer is Eddie Vedder, he grew up thinking he was in a normal family and then one day his mom told him that his father (who was raising him) wasn't his real father. His real father was a friend of the family. The early pearl jam records (ten, vs, vitalogy) explore these feelings of anger and agression quite intensly. The later records show more of a deeper and philisophical spiritual acceptance but still have a lot of good rock songs. This band has also been very political active long before it was cool to do so. They also sued ticketmaster in the early 90's so their fans could have cheaper tickets. There's so much you could say about them. As for other videos to react to...."Porch (pink pop '92)"....if you think Eddie is intense here...wait until you see that video!!
