Eddie Vedder is one of the most soulful and passionate singers of his generation...and beyond. That thing in his throat is his gift for phrasing and emphasizing every word & note of ANY song he performs. His ability to pull listeners in to his vocal expression brings the lyrics, and live instrumentation, to a level which absolutely transcends the majority of today's bands. The other thing which stands out about Eddie, this coming from a R&B/ Gospel stand, is his unwillingness to compromise his artistic talents for that of the music industry's greed & control. His approach to his craft & uncompromising stance, in the views of some industry insiders, may have limited Pearl Jam's_greater success...much like when Prince decided to challenge the music industry, and his label Warner Brothers, by notably changing his name to a symbol & marking his face with the word SLAVE (Google it).

One of the grunge classics. Other bands from this genre to check out are Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, and Soundgarden. Other great Pearl Jam songs to check out are Jeremy, Alive, Better Man, and Even Flow. By the way, you may not be able to understand him any better on the studio version. That was kinda the M.O. of the grunge era bands. Weird Al Yankovic once spoofed the Nirvana song Teen Spirit by trying to sing one verse of the lyrics with marbles in his mouth! LMAO...was too funny, but VERY on point.

Love Pearl Jam! Eddie Vedder is my favorite songwriter! He gives his all as does the whole band is tight for over 30 yrs. There shows are over 3 hours long! You are always high when you leave! They are the only band that stood up to Ticket master for rising prices for their fans. They went to Congress to get lower ticket prices so all could go. No other hand would stand with them. So I appreciate their compassion and for always giving to many charities and causes. They treat their fans so incredibly well! 💖

Eddie Vedder is the lead singer and is Risen to Legendary status ! A great frontman !!! The only Grunge band to make it that still intact with original frontman. All the others died young ( Curt Cobain/Nirvana, Weiland/ Stone Temple Pilate, Chris Cornell/Soundgarden ) to name a few !

You still have Chris Cornell & his groups Soundgarden & Audioslave to explore. Audioslave is the members of the group Rage Against the Machine with Chris Cornell fronting. Chris Cornell supported Eddie's entry into the Grunge scene when a lot of people didn't. They had a collab group called Temple of The Dog. Hunger Strike is a good song to listen from that. Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun is a good song from that group. Audioslave songs to check out would be Shadow of The Sun, Cochice, Show Me How to Live, Like a Stone...

The “Unplugged” era...I looked forward to every time a new one was advertised. (Yeah, I’m old, lol) Nirvana unplugged was amazing. Alice In Chains was great too, but Layne Staley was in the midst of battling the F’n JUNK and was pretty messed up during their set. He was able to perform and do it well, but even the band said they wish he was sober for the performance. MTV unplugged was a great show. Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, etc., was all around the same time. This singer is the guy singing with Chris Cornell on the song “Hunger Strike” when they performed with the band Temple Of The Dog. Pearl Jam has a song called “Alive” from their debut album. That’s probably their best known song, if you’re lookin for another banger, give that one a listen to. Peace from Niagara Falls my friend, I really dig these videos.

YES Young man what you just heard was called GRUNGE ROCK started in the early 90s groups like Alice in chains , Stone Temple pilots , also Nirvana Sang grunge style. This song was written to his girlfriend when they broke up later on in life he ended up marring her started a family together then years later broke up. Aw man...you gotta have the lyrics up and watch that live version again. It is the deepest poetry. They are the Grunge Era of Rock which were thick with emotional expression, and in my opinion, Eddie is the KING of Grunge. Stone Temple Pilots that you mentioned is from the same exact time and genre. Good ear! Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pear Jam, Mother Love Bone...man...they are part of who I "am". Stone Temple Pilots were big around the same time, grunge era, early to mid 90s. There were a lot of artists that came along after PJ that emulated their sound, but I wouldn't put STP in that category. They stand alone. Having said that, i understand what you are saying about a similar singing style, but it wasn't something that happened all the time with STP. They also have their own Unplugged session and it's worth looking into.

I discovered this Unplugged video back in about 94 or 95 when it was only on VCR tape. My friend and would get high (or not) and watch this over and over absoulutely blown away with with the unuque places this band takes you. They go deep inside to make it absolutely transcendent. Back then I never considered the possibility of actually watching someone discover the music 25 years later. Not only discover it, but by someone willfully going "outside of the box" and, in many ways, experiencing very similar things as we did way back then. Thanks for the video. Watching your reaction immediate reaction to somehting thats meant something to me for so long was a beautiful way to start the day. Take care!

That’s a resonator guitar made popular by black blues artists back in the early and mid 1900’s. They have a metal chamber to amplify the volume and have distinct sound compared to traditional guitars.

Actually this song "Black" an whole album" Ten" from Pearl Jam came 2 year before "Plush". Thing about Eddie Vedder (singer of Pearl Jam) is that he is known to be one of the greatest singers of all time, with his 5 octave voice range, incredible colors of his voice (from raspy to angelic clear tones and how he can move quickle from one color to another in a matter of seconds) . Also, he is widely known for his mhhhmhhhh's and uhhhh's and way he is pronouncing words when he sings... ,but most important, he was heavily praised for singing like an open wound or exposed nerve.. Incredibly emotional.Unfortunately, he was also heavily imitated and copied for years for his style of singing. He was also known as trope codifier for this kind of singing. So if something sounds like him probably was influenced by him. A singers from some bands (Creed, Nickelback) aree known to copying Eddie's voice and his way of singing. I am not trying to bash anyone, i am just trying to point out well known fact that a lot of musical critics and vocal coaches are point out for years. I am not saying that those people are bad musicians, i am saying that everybody should find their own voice and what works for them instead of doing something less original.Influence i is one thing but copying is something else. Here"s an one of many quotes by music critics ."Eddie Vedder concocted that way of singing because it was his original way of expressing himself. It came from a really real place, but then it kind of got codified, and made into a formula that didn't even mean anything. Yeah stp lead singer was Scott Weiland. I loved both of these bands. Both along w Nirvana from Seattle built grunge music Yeah I can see where u felt similar but really hard to match the iconic Eddie vedder from Pearl Jam. Glad u liked the song. You need to check out the Judgement Night Soundtrack. The whole album is a rock band and hop hop artist/group together...its an awesome mix of the 2. One of the best songs on the album is Pearl Jam and Cypress Hill song.
