You couldnt be a "hair metal" or hard rock band in the 80s without a slow ballad on your album. This was one of the most popular in its day, definitely the best song from Poison. Their guitar player, CC Deville is very underrated imo too.

All hard rock bands had Power Ballads: Bob Jovi had a few including “I’ll Be There For You”. Foreigner: “I Want To Know What Love Is”. Skid Row: “I Remember You”. Heart: “Alone”. Every other song by Journey, on and on…….

Right on. But cut away all the hair, wash off all the makeup, and strip away the goings on in the videos, and what you have is great rock n roll from Poison. CC Deville is indeed underrated. And they put on a great live show back in the day.

I played in a rock roll band on the east coast in the mid 80s. I met Bret Michaels (the singer) in late '85 , early '86 right when they were out to promote their new album coming out. I had no clue who he was because they were only really known in the LA scene at that point. The minute they took the stage and seeing the crowd's reaction, I knew they would make it big. 6 or so months later, they went from relatively smaller to mid sized clubs to selling out arenas. It's cool to see fellow musicians start out like this and make it big in short order. It's also a rarity since millions of us musicians all tried to make it. They hit at the right time with the right formula, the right songs and the right look. If they would have hit the scene just 5 years later, they would have never been as big.

Poison is still rocking today with all four original band members with the same high energy stage show fun concerts! Their music is mostly about just cutting loose and having “ nothing but a good time “ and that’s exactly what going to a Poison concert has and still is like today ! Check out some of their “ live” music videos as well as their original made for MTV videos from the ‘80’s … Like … “ Talk dirty to Me”, Fallen Angel, Unskinny Bop, I want Action, Ride the Wind, Look what the cat dragged in, and so many more !

Ok Boys I am sorry I have been sick but this is Poison. One of their best albums which no this song was not on this, was Look What the Cat Dragged IN. Brett Michaels the lead singer wrote this song after a break up that went very amicable. WHICH is hard to do in my Generation. You kids are awesome and I am proud to watch you guys react to these songs. AND on a note that most of my generation that listened to this music, besides Stairway to Heaven this song at the end of the 80's made a LOT of guys very LUCKY if they were playing this song. That and the Boys to Men song. but that is for another time. Continue you Great work because you are making me smile when you guys play the songs of my YOUTH.

The height of Hair Metal, damn I remember this era! So many hair bands to choose from. My wife's name is Rose, too. My dad raised me on hair metal and heavy metal, my mom raised me on country, pop and Motown but around somewhere in the 80s I discovered rap. Long story. Fellas "Fallen Angel" is my favorite Poison song, it must be cranked and it's a definite fire extinguisher!

Poison was a cool 80s Hard Rock band with recognizable hits but what made the band great was C.C. Deville on lead guitar. There are many more Poison songs for you to discover but please at least check out their song Life Goes On if not just for the killer guitar showing C.C. at his best! I saw them in concert when I was 18 and again in 2019 when I was 46 and they rocked both times!

I have heard of several African American Country singers: DeFord Bailey, Charlie Pride, Aaron Neville. Lil Nas (Created a fusion between Hip Hop and Country). Lesley Riddle made huge strides in the beginnings of country music. Some of these were performers WAY back over 100 years ago some are more recent. Great question and great reaction.

The lead singer, Bret Michaels, says that he wrote this song when he was out on tour, called home to talk to his girlfriend and heard her new boyfriend in the background. He sat down that night and wrote the lyrics. The girlfriend in question says that Bret was the one cheating, not her. But that's what the song is about. Relationship may be a beautiful thing, but there's always a thorn in it to stick you. This was Poison's only number one hit, although they had several others that charted quite well. I've seen them in concert eight times now, and they're one of the few bands of that era that still sound amazing. For me, their best ballad is actually a different song, "Something to Believe In." I highly recommend you check out that one.

Good 80s band. Brett Michaels wrote this about his stripper girlfriend who dumped him. Good songwriter. Guitar solo by CC deVille. He was top rated guitarist until he hooked up with cocaine and alcohol. Self destructed. Brett never got over this breakup. Although he could have any girl, he pick one to have children with but never married. And remember every rock album is required to have power ballads. Poison had some good old fashion rock songs too. I suggest you check out Skid Row. Best ballad .. I Remember You. Best rock vocals .. Wasted Time. This song written about their friend Steven Adler, drummer for Guns N Roses, almost died from heroin addiction. The music video is stunning. You will freak over the vocals.

All those years when you thought Rock music was just a lot of screaming. That's one of the things I love about getting older. I'm 60. I have music going back to the 40's. Woody Guthries 'Dust bowl ballards.' The ballard of pretty boy floyd is a story in a song. Billie Holiday. Loved Ice-t since 1987. When he released "power" with Evil E, spinning some serious vinyl. That led me to some really serious millitant artists. Original G stuff. By the way. Ice-t has one of the most serious Rock bands in existance. "Bodycount". Incredible band. Ernie-c on,guitar, that will stun you. The point I'm trying to make. Very badly It seems. Is that you don't have to stop being into one genre of music, to get into another. Everyone can enjoy as much or as little as they like. Peace out.

I remember waiting for months to finally see the video on MTV. I was so excited. I remember at the end of the encore CC DEVILLE would not leave the stage and just kept playing his guitar. The big security guy had to come out and carry him off stage…while he still played. I now know it was part of the act but when your 15, it was magical. So much fun.

Watch the video…. It helps tell the story better. Took my then 13 yr old daughter to see Mr. Brett Michaels and she sang every song along with me! It was a fantastic night! They had a lot of fun dance songs. Maybe check out Nothing But A Good Time. It’s a great song as well
