7:36 - For the dnb / dubstep sounds - that's Ruckspin (he's sort of the producer 'core' of the group and he's done both dark drum n bass and sort of Kryptic Minds style dubstep - which mostly does the same thing down 30 bpm). IMHO Kytes seems like it's their magnum opus album, Fragments and Finest Hour are great as well but this one feels like it has the most development of their ideas.

Also yes - the foundation of a lot of their music is dubstep. You'll hear that both in the kick and snare structure as well as the 'straightness' as you put it of the hats and percussion. In a way what I love about it is they're giving dubstep the Full Cycle, Roni Size and Reprazent treatment with a lounge singer who has to be a lot of fun to reinforce (if you ever listen to Perfection from Finest Hour - a few of her notes sound straight away like someone shifted from a human voice to a woodwind instrument but - that's her).

Prison lol. Your fisherman's hat goes well with that pronunciation mistake. Too bad their prime time has gone because the DJ left. I think your analysis is fair. Their music is bit conservative and nostalgic while they can go further with the set. Worries and In gold are their golden tracks.

There's some odd audio compression or clipping going on with the playback of the track that sounds a bit like it's going through a pitch shifter.

Hi, I'm not really picking that up. But then I have no outside context, this is the only format that I've heard the song in. Is it occurring at any particular part?

@@JasonBrocket No, it's all the audio from the clip. Your recorded voice audio sounds fine. I just took another look at the Bad Guy reaction video and it has the same artefacts. I'm not sure how you're doing the audio routing, I'm guessing you're doing it live, playing through speakers and re-recording, so possibly a bounce reflection or recompression artefact?

Love Submotion Orchestra. It's probably not really pop music, but it's about as close to pop music as my regular listening gets. They're a really unique band that fuses pop, electronica, orchestral and jazz. There are trip-hop influences there, along with orchestral breakbeat a-la Hybrid. They do play all the instrumentation, and see themselves as a primarily live band, which is surprising given the sparkling production. As with a lot of the music I enjoy there is a really nice blend of the organic and synthetic, textured soundscapes, and a hint of darkness and menace under the sugar. Different albums have different blends of these characteristics. My favourite album of theirs is Alium which brings more of the electronica side to the forefront than their other albums. Others will definitely prefer the Kites album which Prism is from. Awakening from Alium: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5vKiGNsgdaKrpY All their albums are available on Bandcamp, which is awesome because you can listen to every track on every album in decent quality for free. I buy so much music off Bandcamp for that reason alone (let alone being a better deal for artists) submotionorchestra.bandcamp.com
