Cool Cat", written by Mercury and Deacon, originally featured David Bowie on backing vocals and a few lines of spoken word to a rhythm during the middle eight. According to Mercury in a 1982 TV interview, Bowie was unhappy with the results and requested that his vocals be removed days before its parent album was slated to be released. With the exception of the electric piano (which was played by Mercury), all the instruments are played by Deacon, including drums, guitars, and synths.[14] On the album version, Mercury sings the entire song in falsetto.[15] The alternate take with Bowie's vocals still intact is widely available on various bootleg recordings[16] and surfaces from an early 1982 vinyl Hot Space test pressing from the US. Deacon can be heard using the slap bass technique throughout the track

They had quite a few of these records especially during the early days, you should give some of Freddie impromptu moments from live concerts,he loved the audience joining in,also Rock In Rio Blues in front of around 250,000 per show, then Exercises In Free Love, just to name a few

He goes even higher in "Exercises in Free Love" please please react to it, you wont believe it's him at first but then you'll catch a hint. There is no live version, it was the demo he sent to Montserrat when they were talking about collaborating and "Barcelona" was born! He wanted to show her how versatile he was. You will at first believe it's Montserrat singing it's so high, but it's ALL Freddie and one of the most beautiful things you'll ever hear. The one I usually pull up is the one that shows bothe him and Montserrat in her blue dress in the pic. That one has visuals to it. The majority of the others is just a still pic of Freddie.

I don't care what anyone says, I love the Hot Space album. ❤ You should react to Freddie's performances of "Staying Power" and "Action" at their Milton Keynes concert. Both songs are off this album and he kills it on stage. OMG.....what a performer he was! 🔥

there's NOTHING wrong with loving Hot Space. only those stoopid a$$ ignorant "rock" fans and "rockers" who think that album sounded not "rock" enough..or too black..or too gay..or just anti-black music, in general...even tho rock music was from rock and rock was invented BY black musicians.... oh! and who's THE most famous ROCK GUITARIST of all time...?? JIMI HENDRICKS. a black dude.

If you want to hear Freddie's amazing falsetto again, you need to react to the song Don't try so hard. This awesome Freddie song is chilling. Very sad (since Freddie was already dying), but life-affirming. It must have been hard to sing knowing about the imminent death

Thank you, thank you, thank you. A Mercury/Deacon collaboration. No participation from either Roger or Brian, so it's Freddie on vocals and John pretty much taking care of the rest. A short song, but oh so perfect, I just can't get enough of this one.

Brian and Roger think the song was so bad, they dont whant to play it at all. So John was playing. There was never making a vid with his sooo incredible cool song. I love it! Great reaction as always guys. If I remember correctly, David Bowie did some backing vocals for this song originally, but then, just as the album was about to drop, David decided he didn't like how he sounded and got Queen to erase his vocals from the track. I'm sure I've seen an interview with Freddie somewhere where he says that it was "asshole timing". Didn't do any long lasting damage to their friendship though. Try reacting to "Dancer " from this very under appreciated album (Hot Space). I can picture that one banging out of a nightclub in 2021!

I love this song! Queen did two more 'cat songs'. Delilah: about Freddie's favorite cat, on Innuendo. 'All Dead, All Dead' written by Brian about his feelings about a kitten that died. There are two versions, one sung by Brian and one by Freddie. As you said...you knever know what you will get with Queen, but it's all good! It was fun to see you enjoy Cool Cat!

Glad y'all enjoyed this rarity! This song along with “Stayin’ Power” from the Hot Space LP would absolutely rival the Motown RNB groups Switch kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYPaomeGoK53rq8 and DeBarge kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYbdaHiOodmrb68 with their falsettos from Bobby of Switch (the eldest from the DeBarge clan who also died from AIDS) and El from DeBarge. This was John Deacon aka Deacy and Freddie tryin’ to recapture some of the RNB fans they accidentally picked-up from the Game LP. Queen had crossed into RNB/Dance with “Another One Bites the Dust” and “Dragon Attack.” Their other jam, “Body Language” got heavy radio play on RNB/Dance stations from the Hot Space LP (the same LP “Cool Cat” was on). Freddie and Deacy enjoyed RNB/Dance music and Freddie INSISTED that Deacy get-in as many songs he could for future royalties and if some of those songs were RNB/Dance, so what! Brian May and Roger Taylor aka Bri and Rog HATED the Hot Space LP not so much for the RNB/Dance element ‘cos they’d gone out of their genre before, but more because many synthesizers, deadened drums sounds, and drum machines were used. I believe one of the songs Rog absolutely REFUSED to play and Deacy had to play the drum machine for...it may even have been “Cool Cat.” After hearing several documentaries and vocal commentaries by Bri and Rog since Freddie’s passing and Deacy’s retirement, I’m more convinced that Deacy was only meant to play the bass guitar and stay in the background and if it wasn’t for Freddie, he’d likely would’ve done just that and we would’ve never gotten the opportunity to hear some of Deacy’s and Queen’s biggest hits. Here’s a little ditty for ya: David Bowie who had already done “Under Pressure” with them at the time put out a dance LP (Let’s Dance) that was co-produced by Niel Rogers of the RNB/Dance group Chic had did backing vocals for “Cool Cat” but at the last minute asked to have his vocals removed which pissed Freddie off to no end as it caused them to delay releasing the song. This sort of cause a riff in their future collaboration efforts (oh the possibilities had this not happened). Anyhoo...here’s the link to one of the early sessions with Bowie’s backing vocals: kzbin.info/www/bejne/haPEcp2DgLV7lZo Check it out ☺

John and Freddie wrote this song. They were way more than friends all throughout Queen, together for the last 9 years of Freddie's life. Jim was a decoy to hide their relationship. There is so much info all over. One is this live in Japan 1985 John and Freddie singing to each other 2:08 and at the end Ratty (John and Freddie's roadie) holding up a picture of John and Freddie singing to it) so cute. Ratty said Freddie used to make signs for John and he would hold them up when John was at the piano with Freddie. Lots more stories about the two, but I will leave it at that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqqpdq2BfZh7oKM 2:08
