This genre of music is called Qawwalli. It is almost a 900+ years old classical genre from the Indian subcontinent. And, Ustad (Maestro) Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and his family tradition of singing goes 600+ years. Delhi's Sufi saint Amir Khusrow of the Chisti order of Sufis is credited with fusing the Persian, Arabic, Turkish, and Indian traditions in the late 13th century in India to create Qawwali as we know it today

10:34 hey let me tell you something. Pakistan, and India (as you know both were one country and called sub-continent) so in sub-continent classical raag gharana were there. Means musical families where music is run in their families from generations and they were masters in classical music of subcontinent. There they were called Ustad which means Master/Teacher. So its a title given to someone who excelled in music. Rahat Ali Khan is from a raag gharana/family so he is also called "Ustad" means he is a master of music. For more info google Qawali. And also see what are Qawal gharana or Qawal families. Rahat is from a Qawal family. Qawali is called as "Sammaa" in arabic.
