Ren started to get some attention before he got sick and had a deal with Sony Records (I think). However, he became ill and was dropped by the label. He was misdiagnosed for many years leading and his Lyme disease ravaging his immune system and leading to the psychosis referenced in Hi Ren. Finally, he was correctly diagnosed with Lyme disease and has been getting treatment. He decided to remain independent rather than seeking another deal with a major record label and released his "Sick Boi" album a couple of months ago.

Ren will frequently equate the mucrocosm of personal snd the macrocosm of society. As above so below. He is very aware of the dichotomy that we luve in and the need for uding collective intelligence to find solutions to societal problems. In his music and interviews he speaks out for cresting a space of mediation to have conversations instead of screaming at each other with our hands over our ears. He is extremely intelligent and well read . If we don't reach fir utopia nothing will change.

Ren dropped a brand new track yesterday ("Fred Again Mashup") and is a perfect example of how he just can't be written off as a conventional rapper and/or how he refuses to box himself into 1 genre or musical style. Per training to record labels, he was initially signed to Sony Records but when he got sick with Lyme disease, they cut him. In terms of talking about humanity/society overall, you definitely have to check out the "Money Game" trilogy of songs and "eden". Just a heads up in case you keep reacting to Ren. There are 3 parts to the Money Game, which I also highly recommend. For part 2, theres a live version and a lyric version. There's nothing wrong at all with the live version, but it's not the complete song. The lyric version is the whole song which I recommend watching first, then the live version after if you want.

Sorry Freya, pig mask guy is a recurring character, when you get to the kitty cat masks on "Animal Flow"... you MUST do the dance with them (I do it every time so long as nobody's looking)! I saw in your "Hope" video that you said this is some sad/difficult travel, I wish you peace and joy! Oh, and my favorite part with Ren is that he's deeply involved with every aspect of a song, whether a music video style or a one-take... he's great at using natural acoustics in a carefully picked space (or using a lack of natural reverb to "cut" sounds as well).

I did a free preview at Patreon and while you've kept it VERY affordable... I still rub pennies together here. We're probably geographically close and living where I am has gotten INSANE. I saw a comment asking where you're from, I get why you'd be hesitant to say... I however am not, so from one NorthEaster (Long Island, NY) to another, I'd offer the Serenity Prayer, if I was religious, but I'm not... I do like that prayer though, context wise. Nice thoughtful reaction. Ren had a contract with Sony, when his health got worse, that relationship ended. There is so much more in Rens catalog. I'd recommend: Chalk Outlines The tale of Jenny and Screech trilogy. Please make sure that is is the full version. Money game trilogy for a palate cleanser, the Love Music songs. More rap: Genesis, the Hunger There's many more. Keep going, we'll come along.

Talked about how they wanted him to change Hi Ren!😂😂 A resounding no from him. He did sign with a small INDEPENDENT label called The Other Songs, but maintains full control of all aspects snd copywrites of his music. They help with distribution as well.

This song, when you zoom way out, is about extraction and commodification, those exploitative processes that capitalism is built upon and necessitates. First , he shows what capitalism does to one's health or how it treats disease. Medication, as a solution, is privileged over the time-consuming, gumshoe-detective-work required to make a proper diagnosis. Not only does that short change the patient, but it disencentivises the development of the kind of doctor who has a broad range of knowledge AND the analytical brain required to diagnose. In essence, the profit motive applied to health care has created a system that trades Dr House for Dr. Feelgood. The system pushes toward increasing disinvestment in Dr training and combines that with ever-decreasing levels of patient care because profit, in this era of hyper-financiiaization, comes via extraction, meaning a pound of flesh must be bled from every medical visit. That pound of flesh can easily be one's mental health (or the combined damage wrought by allowing lymes disease to live in a patient's body for 8 years undetecfed).All that would have required more time, less billable hours. In the second part, he explores how capitalist extraction or "commodify[ing] your gift boy" can reduce the joy and healing of creativity into a cutthroat business where multiple, parasitic pieces of the music industry saueezes their own few pennies out of each dollar brought in by your talent. Its the ssme system, the same sets of incentives and disincentives, the same financial instruments built out of the commodification of your music, fhose same aspects of financialization, that makes your music the same as any mine or oilfield, a resoirce to be extracted which privatizes those gains (profits) and socializes those losses (the public is stuck paying in the form of public funds spent on cleaning up the mine waste or the costs borne by nation states cleaning up afted climate change fueled national disasters Modern capitaism requires the state to pay for the resesrch into clean technologies, then hand it over to private corporations who then profit from it by charging the people for something (a drug, a utility) that their taxes paid to develop, usually providing a monopoly in the process That is what Ren sees that has taken us to the brink of extinction. He admits we all, on some level, participate. We need money, take jobs in extracfive industries (music, insurance, medical, real estate, oil and gas etc) and all participate in the bleeding dry of an environment that, were we not to turn every piece of it into a privatdly owned commodity, would provide us with all we need

You speak so softly I can't hear you. Makes it difficult to follow what you are saying. The video sound of the artist and music comes through just fine, loud actually. I will watch, but I still won't bother playing with my volume control going back and forth to raise it up when you talk and then turn it down again when the video plays. Sorry, wish I knew what you thought of Ren and the video.
