I absolutely love watching you try and make sense out of 80’s music videos!! 🤣🤣🤣 The name of the album this song was on was Working Class Dog and the dog with the shirt and tie was the cover photo for it.

Plenty of other RS hits to check out- "Affair of the Heart", "Don't Talk to Strangers", "I've Done Everything for You", "What Kind of Fool Am I", "Human Touch". FYI, he was a heart-throb on the soap "General Hospital" before he lauched his singing career, so he started with a built- in audience

Actually he launched his music career in his native Australia playing in blues and rock show bands, even touring Viet Nam briefly during the war. In the late 60s, he joined a band called Zoot and had success in Australia with them. He came to America in 1971, 1972 as a solo artist and released Beginnings, a great album, but not bubble gum. He was marketed as a bubble gum artist, so the people who would have liked it never got to hear it, and the kids to did hear it didn't get it because it wasn't geared toward them. Same thing happened with his next album, Comic Book Heroes, also a great album. he then fired his management team and started fresh and signed a record deal with Chelsea, and recorded another great album called Wait For Night. But the label went belly up before the album really saw the light of day. He had started getting into acting at this time to pay the bills. he then signed with RCA and in 1980 recorded Working Class Dog. RCA kept delaying its release, and he thought this album might not do much, either, so when he got the call to audition for General Hospital, he didn't really want to because he didn't think it woul do much for his music career, but he decided to go for a steady paycheck. He got the part, some radio stations that had started playing Jessie's Girl, which radio kind of decided would be the single, stopped playing it when they found out he was also a soap actor. They INCORRECTLY assumed he was a soap actor that they sat down in a studio and had him sing some songs to capitalize on the GH popularity, but nothing could have been further from the truth. He has always been a musician/songwriter first and foremost. GH was just a huge show the summer of 1981, and those radio stations that were still playing Jessie's Girl started getting more and more requests for it, as people saw him there, and took notice of the song. It took a long time for Jessie's Girl to climb to the top of the charts, It was released roughly around March of 1981, and didn't hit #1 until the first week of August. Being on the show certainly helped get attention for his music career, but he had definitely launched his career about 15 years before GH came along. And he didn't start with a built in audience. He worked hard for and earned every single music fan he got, and still has today.

He was a singer long before General Hospital. I believe he released his first album at 17 while still living in Australia. He played something like 17 instruments at the time. Rather amazing first album and very deep and a bit dark.

They did a sequel to this a few years ago. It's just called Jessie's Girl 2. Rick did the song with Coheed and Cambria. It's a trip.

Such a great song. I became a huge fan back in the day at 16, and still a huge fan today. 1) in his autobiography Late, Late at Night, he said he broke 24 mirrors in total for this video. 2) the dog was his dog, Ron, who is on the cover of the album that features this song. the album's called Working Clas Dog. 3) No, this was not his only hit. he had 17 top 40 hits, including Dont Talk to Strangers which hit #2, Affair of the Heart which hit #9, and Love Somebody, which hit #5. he still records and tours today. He just released a new album last August and it's pretty awesome.
