He wasn't "uninterested," he's posed that way on purpose, as if he's deep in thought. The use of light and shadows is a way to set the mood when filming in black and white.

This was the most requested song of the 20th century. It was used in the movie "Top Gun". Among the back up singers is Cher. Yes, that Chere. She was 16 when she was part of Phil Spector's wall of sound. We who grew up with this music and the clean cut style of the entertainers have it way over what is happening now. This is a 1964 live performance. This was the way the lighting was done then. No smoke, no flashing lights. You could actually enjoy the performance without ending up deaf for 3 days afterwards and a migraine that went on for weeks.

This lighting effect was exactly as planned. Trading the spotlight from the solo part, then to the duo and so on. The shadow was to represent the lost, "lovin feeling" BTW This.was an anthem in my early high school years. Broke my heart and I hadn't even had a serious girlfriend, yet.

For now, only one of them has passed. Bobby Hatfield, the shorter, blonde one with the higher-pitched voice, died in 2003 shortly after the two of them were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Bill Medley (the taller one with the deep voice) still performs under the name Righteous Brothers with a new partner, Bucky Heard. They're not bad together, but it ain't the same. Bobby was special. You should seek out his performance of "Unchained Melody" (where he's wearing the pink suit). It is one of the most remarkable live performances ever captured on videotape. And oh, by the way, 1965 was not that long ago. There are plenty of us around who were alive back then. Millions of us. Now, 1865, that was a long time ago. But that was back when Lincoln freed the slaves, and I'm pretty sure that is just as relevant and widely accepted today as it was then. I'm frankly insulted by the notion that just because something happened in the past, it has somehow become "distant" to us. I would argue music like this is just as relevant and alive today as it was then.

There is a reason that music music from the 1950’s-90’s is still constantly being played. The variety of styles crossed over so many barriers that were imposed by those that still try to divide people. Artists of all backgrounds were given a chance to have their talents shine.

When they were starting out as a duet act they performed under a different name. One night when they were playing in some little club outside of Camp Pendleton some black Marines told them, "You brothers are Righteous" and that was that. :-) BTW: One of the back up singers in this performance is a teenage Cher.

I love The Righteous Brothers and the way they do this song! In exploring the '60's I hope you won't skip over Elvis Presley who changed music as we knew it back in '55. He and Bill Medley were friends, and when they were both performing in Vegas in the '70s Elvis sometimes showed up during a Righteous Brothers performance, just walked across the stage, said hi to Bill and kept on walking. Anyway, I hope you'll react to: Elvis Presley You've Lost That Lovin Feeling Live 1970 (4:13). I know it's not the '60's but close enough? Elvis's interpretation makes it sound like a completely different song.

For those of us who grew up with this music, it is a shock for me to hear someone say they've "never heard of... (whatever from my era)." I understand, and it gives me a sense of pride to hear young people such as yourselves, getting into the music of two generations ago, with such enthusiasm and honesty. It only proves how really good "our" music was and still is. This is all very nostalgic for someone my age (73), who still claims we had the best stuff. All that said, I would like to suggest (if you haven't yet) that you react to Alan Price's rendition of "I Put A Spell On You." kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYKXi3p9qZJkqNU - live recording of the former organist for The Animals ("House Of The Rising Sun"), and he was the second best singer in that group, so you can only imagine Eric Burdon's voice!

Now try Elvis, the greatest entertainer of all time King of RNR. I never met Elvis but was friends with Charlie Hodge his confidant and best friend n he told me many stories about Elvis over the years. For Elvis React to American Trilogy Aloha concert that was broadcasted around the world and seen by 1.5 Billion people 1973 n I was there 3rd row center n couldn't take my eyes off of him. I was 21 n jumped up on my seat n thru him a kiss n he winked at me and I know it was for me as no other crazy girl was standing up.some more favorite ones Suspicious Minds Vagus 1970, Bridge Over Troubled Water Vagus 1970 You Gave Me A Mountain Aloha concert 1973, Make The World Go Away Vagus 1970, Burning Love Aloha concert 1973 n around 500 more. I was fourteen when this song was first played on the radio. They were the heart throb back then. The Ladies were loving these two guys. Unchained Melody was always my favorite.

You should listen to Bobby Hatfield, the tenor, sing Unchained Melody and Ebb Tide. In that group of backup singers was Cher. Yes, that Cher. She was 16 or 17 at that time.

In my view (I was around and knew this back then. In sum, the greatest blue eyed soul singer is Bill Medley, the guy with deep voice, but Bobby Hatfield was just as good but higher octave.
