Its not just about the vocal range but about how he expresses himself in the song, the empathy and soul. You can feel the pain. People get turned off because of the simplicity and directness of the records from that time. The 50's era music spoke more directly to men than women for the most part which is not happening today.

While Roy started recording in 1956, his biggest hits were in the early-mid 60’s. He continued performing until he died. Had a major song released a month after he died and prior to that was one of the greats of Rock ‘n Roll in the band the ‘Travelling Wilburys’.

Could never get into You Got It.. sounds like a Tom Petty throwaway.. which is fine.. I like tom petty but if he had recorded this no one would care. it only is special cause it's tied to roy's passing. Without that context it's very generic and forgettable IMO.

roy's voice is probably the greatest ture vocal voice in anything rock related ever. the vibrato, th epitch, the range, and power in his voice, and if you watch him sing all this stuff, he literally looks like he is isn't even trying. normally when you see singers hit certain notes, power levels, range, etc.. they look on their faces like they are straining to get there. with roy. it is so natural. he is on another level weather one liles an actaul song or not, his voice can not be denied. he could have been a very good barritone/tenor opera singer with that voice.

This one is my personal fave by Roy, but having collected everything I could find by him, since the early '60s, it doesn't lead by much. Aside from his incredible voice, he was a master of melody. 45s have been my true passion since 78s were discontinued - my living room is lined with them. I know it's two years later, but if you check in here, I must insist you listen to the MGM version of one of his lesser known 45 entries: "Heartache", from the '70s. Oh, and his "Wild Hearts Run Out of Time" from 1984 (not released on a single here), made me fall in love with him all over again, 20 years later.

No, he re-recorded it in 1986, not 1972. This version is 1960 - the single version differs from the album cut.
@Ozone2803 жыл бұрын
@@Luxsky No, sorry, I beg to differ. I got the year wrong though, this version first appeared on his Greatest Hits double album in 1974, as did the previously unused version of In Dreams. It cannot be the 1986 version as I thought that album was one of his worst and I never bought it, therefore I couldn't have it in my collection - which I do. There are several differences between this version and the 1960 version. 4.26 when he sings "Have no fear I'll..." is different to the 1960 version. 4.33 on the 1974 version he breaks midway through the "Yey" note, in the 1960 version he carried the note right through. And there are a few more differences. Both versions are still masterpieces though!
@Luxsky3 жыл бұрын
@@Ozone280 Hi Michael. We may be talking at cross purposes, so just to clarify. The version is not a 1970’s re-recording. There are alternative takes from the original session, which may have been released at different times, subsequent to 1960, but the only available re-recording is the 1986 version. Roy did not cut a new version in the 70s that has ever been released. Maybe you mean issue date, rather than recording date. I would need to check this version against the one held on the Lonely and Blue album, which to my memory differs from the single release. I agree it’s a great record, and I agree that the ‘86 version is poor. Those ‘86 recordings were inferior to Roy’s live performances from that period of his life - he could have done so much better, although he should not have recut them, in my view. Those Monument recordings are unbeatable.
@Ozone2803 жыл бұрын
