@@nancytimmins2436 Agreed, but the last line of "It's Over" is what puts this one over the top for me. He abandoned his trademark higher and higher and higher falsetto endings on "It's Over" and remained in a natural voice throughout the ENTIRE song which indeed does seem "impossible" in the key in which he sings it. BUT it should be noted here that on ALL his other songs, Roy Orbison is capable of going in and out of falsetto as smoothly and as flawlessly as any singer ... ever!

The "Friends" in the title include; Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Castello, Jackson Brown, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Waits K.D. Lang, Jennifer Warnes. Also of note, is the "TCB Band" including band leader, Guitarist, James Edward Burton ( TCB band backed up Elvis Presley from 1969 until his passing) .

Well, TECHNICALLY this is your fourth reaction, if you include the two Traveling Wilburys songs you've done (and btw, this song was cowritten by Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne, who also did backing vocals and guitar and synth!). "Crying", "Only the Lonely", "Running Scared", and "In Dreams" are some of his other great hits. Note: if you do "Crying" you can do the original version or the duet he did with k.d. lang, a PHENOMENAL female artist that you have yet to react to. This might be the perfect introduction. RIP Roy (1936-1988).

Crying and Only the Lonely are my faves by Roy. I love his voice, he has such a great voice. Tom Petty said that when they were in the Traveling Wilburys together with Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison and Petty, after a take on a song Tom Petty looked at Roy and said, You have the best voice. It's so good! Roy said, not in a bragging manner mind you, "I know." Just to clarify, any video from his "Black and White Night" concert will be an amazing experience. It was a televised concert that was filmed LIVE in September 1987, and aired on Cinemax in January 1988. Roy passed away in December of 1988. His band included many of Elvis Presley's Band, and featured back up singers K.D. Lang, Bonnie Raitt, and Jennifer Warnes. On top of that, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, Tom Waits, and others also joined him on stage that night. It was all filmed in black and white. Pay attention to the audience as well. Many famous faces were in the crowd, including: David Lynch, Billy Idol, Patrick Swayze, and Kris Kristofferson, among others. Also, The morning after it was filmed, an earthquake caused damage to the venue the concert had been filmed in just hours before, and all the footage of the concert was nearly lost, but apparently, fate stepped in, and the tapes miraculously took no damage, despite chandeliers and other debris falling directly on top of them, preserving the night for us to continue to enjoy. There is also a version of it called "Black and White Night 30", which is the remastered, 30 year anniversary edition, and adds a few more songs that were played that night, but not originally released.

Born April 23, 1936 Vernon, Texas, U.S. Died December 6, 1988 (aged 52) Hendersonville, Tennessee, U.S., Orbison began singing in a rockabilly and country-and-western band as a teenager. He was signed by Sam Phillips of Sun Records in 1956, but enjoyed his greatest success with Monument Records. From 1960 to 1966, 22 of Orbison's singles reached the US Billboard Top 40. He wrote or co-wrote almost all of his own Top 10 hits, including "Only the Lonely" (1960), "Running Scared" (1961), "Crying" (1961), "In Dreams" (1963), and "Oh, Pretty Woman" (1964). Peace out.

so many good Roy songs- "Crying" is a must!. "Sweet Dream Baby" is a favorite of mine. "You Got It" is Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne (Traveling Wilburys) producing- they love Roy. They also produced Del Shannon is his later years. Del was going to replace Roy in the Wilburys when Roy died, but Del committed suicide. Del- "Runaway" and "Little Town Flirt" (at least those two.)

Many years ago, when Roy was still with us, I worked in a large wholesale/retail warehouse and one day one of the bread vendors brought in a relative to help him. I did a double take because Roy Orbison was standing there. I have always been a fan and I went over to him and said he looked exactly like Roy. He told me he is an impersonator in Vegas shows. A week later he brought me a tape of songs he recorded and had Roy Orbison autograph it for me. Awesome.

Thank you for considering this song to review. Roy Orbison was one of those once in a lifetime artists who could write songs, play the instruments, and had the voice to sing them. Arguably one of the best pure singing voices ever with a great range. There is a KZbin performance where he performed this on a German awards show. Please watch that video, as Roy I asked shortly after it was made.

He is best known for his beautiful ballads. His song “In Dreams” ( must hear studio version) is maybe the most beautiful song ever. The highs he hits on that one are incredible; also “Crying” He started at Sun records with Elvis, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis. They would bring Orbison in sometimes to sing behind Elvis; when Elvis couldn’t hit certain high notes. Saw him in person in the 80s..Amazing, amazing, amazing!!!

Roy Orbison undoubtedly the Caruso of POP/Rock Music. His rich vocal tone and vibrato at all pitch levels, and his 4+ Octave voice is one that doesn't come along but maybe once every 3rd generation. When Elvis was in the Prime of his vocal abilities someone asked him how he felt to have one of the greatest voices of all time. Elvis' response was, "Go Ask Roy Orbison". In 1988, when Roy had passed, George Harrison was asked if he would be replacing Roy as one of the Traveling Wilbury's. His response, "Well, you really can't replace Roy Orbison". And, they never did.
