I can never pick my favorite one. Its like that riddle to ponder an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. They are both so good for different reasons

It’s based on Neil’s reflection on the famous Old Testament bible passage about Jacob’s ladder so I guess he didn’t think many lyrics was needed and the instrumental really adds to the Bible story

So few people have the historical perspective on the origins of the title of this song, it’s quite sad actually. Neil being agnostic, reinterprets the biblical struggle told in the Bible between Jacob and the angel, as man being overwhelmed by the power of natural forces and the boys then put all of this to music. Brilliant music and attempt But the biblical story remains .

The theme of the song is about witnessing the event of a powerful storm and that moment when the storm breaks and shafts of light break through. Our visions and dreams of supernatural forces are triggered by such experiences. It is the title of the song and that final verse that really clarifies this idea. I have always loved this as one of Rush's descriptive pieces, like Red Barchetta, The Trees, Xanadu and Natural Science.

The song is about the forming of a storm literally, it’s beginning middle end...could also refer to the storms we face in life .

Nice review. I have to say you need to work on balancing your audio levels between you talking, the music, and that intro and outro. The music was at a good level, but your commentary was very quiet, so I turned it up. Then your outro hit and just about knocked me out of my chair. Keep on keepin' on and refining the craft.

One of their greatest!! Love this song. I don’t think Neil intended any religious significance, just the statement of the battle of the clouds ending in the ray of sunshine that breaks thru and looks like (as described in the Bible, by Jacob) a ladder to heaven! Hence Jacobs Ladder. Not ALL of RUSH’s lyrics are super deep. Some stories are told thru the music. Be well and God bless… from Texas!

I respect your take on "Jacob's Ladder." I can't wait until you get around to reacting to "Count Down" or to "Losing It"

This song is about clouds forming a thunderstorm and then at the end of the storm the sun comes shining through. The instrumentation tells most of the story.

Now that you have initially experienced the song you might want to read up on the meaning of the lyrics and then listen to the song again. I think you will come away with a new appreciation for the song overall and for this band's ability to paint a vivid picture with music. The changing moods of the song perfectly describes what is happening lyrically.
