Great choice in song reaction. Rush was the most innovative group I've ever heard. They took off where Led Zeppelin left off as far as musical innovation and lyrics. Riffs, drums, voice, etc...they were a trio masterpiece of musical talent.

It's hard to pin down one song but this is a contender. The album is my favorite, and the first time I saw them on tour. Never missed one since.

Rush is a perfect band to react to. Lyrics, instrumentation, building up, vocals, variety, progression, mastery. All in one package just listening to studio version songs. If you go to live versions... no words.

I think you would love their song called Free Will. Right along the same line as this but also has an incredible solo by Alex on guitar - but you know Rush, when Alex solos, Neil and Geddy start going crazy right along with him. Rush is one of the greatest bands ever!!🤘🤘

Neil Peart the drummer & lyricist was not only a great drummer, a true poet & song writter!!! RIP Neil!

NeverEnder, with regard to the lyrics, just know that Neil is using a lot of metaphor in his lyrics. So, this New World Man is a person with a lot of things going on, in his outward actions, but also he's got a lot coming at him, from the big, crazy world, that he has to deal with. On the other hand, when Neil writes, "he's got to walk a fine line, and keep his self-control", that's not a metaphor. That is what we all go though, in navigating difficulties in life. Great song, perfect for the time, 1982! Great year!

Such an important time of life, when you’re capable of so much good, and at the same time, squandering that opportunity, depending on the choices you make. finding balance in all you do is such an important message that Neil is trying to make. I heard another reactor once taking offense at the use of the term Third World man in this song and I really think it’s a reflection of Neil‘s travels in Africa and the passion he felt from the people that he met there, and the respect he had for their celebration of life.

I think this is more or less an early 80s commentary on America (The New World) and its approach to foreign policy. Yep, leave it to Neil to hit you with thoughtful thoughts while doing it through such an engaging tune.
