Don't feel bad. That was my first impression decades ago as well. But something haunted me about them, and I kept listening again to see what I might have missed, and as I listened more subtle genius emerged from the chaos and mesmerized me.

This is Industrial music. Skinny Puppy is a founding Industrial band. Very hard for most people to get into. I think whoever requested this should have started you with easier to listen to Industrial band, and worked their way into this. I know it'll tick some people off but maybe try some Nine Inch Nails ( just not the song closer), or maybe even something more friendly like Stabbing Westward.

Maybe try Nine Inch Nails We're In this Together, or I you want harder/ harsher try March of the Pigs. Just don't do Closer. Great song but definitely NSFW.

This was mine. I guess after so many years of listening to it and watching the video, I started to gloss over some things (like the “blood”). The blood is fake (health codes would never let them get away with that). The song, though, is one of my favorites of the genre, that’s why I picked it.

Only group you play loud and provocative in your young years ans low low and more laid back on your mancave stereo in your 50ies...like in the same manner as free form jazz and things to really "get analytical" about.

Can't be animal blood, the guy is an activist for animal rights, lots of songs on the subject. I think it's glycerin and dye based fake blood or something like that. It's a provocative effect he does when performing.

Yeah, this is a tough band to become your favorite on first listen. I bought VivisectVI thinking it would sound similar to Ministry, but was left thinking "what the absolute fuck did I just listen to?" But it grew on me. And kept growing on me until they became my favorite band. But they're not for everybody, if you don't like it, you don't like it and that's totally cool. Don't let any of us rabid Skinny Puppy fans try to tell you otherwise.

I was finally able to watch the actual reaction (my first post was in response to the other comments), and I have to say that I was kind of hoping for this. I'll start by saying that I chose this to try to introduce you to one of the originators of the industrial genre (they had a pretty successful 40+ year career and influenced countless bands). However, there was a bonus reason for choosing this band, as well. You three are always so positive about everything I've ever watched you react to, and eventually you have to wonder if it's genuine or not. I wanted to see what you would say if there were no real conventional instruments, mainstream song elements (hooks, catchy melodies, etc), 'normal' vocals, etc -- or any hair or outfits for Lulu to appreciate, lol. This band is clearly not for everybody, and I was curious to see if you'd conceed that this might be outside your comfort zone. Happily, you did. As for the fake blood... that aspect of the video never even crossed my mind... apologies. The vocalist is more like a performance artist (acting out his lyrics) than a simple frontman, and he does use a lot of props -- some more shocking than others.

The original was made in the 80’s I recommend also try candle cult or amnesia off the process. That is a easy into puppy the old stuff can and is for advanced hearing. Took me years to learn ogres voice and some it sounded like a bunch of crazy noises. Just give them another chance once you get it they are brilliant. 😊

Industrial music - an avant-garde style in popular music created in the 1970s. Since its inception, it has rapidly evolved in various directions, making a universal definition of this style problematic. At the core of industrial is an anti-musical approach, taking the form of a noisy sound that mostly ignores traditional forms of musical expression. In addition, industrial musicians use avant-garde methods of composition ( music concrète , music for tape ). In the extra-musical layer, industrial is characterized by shock tactics, multimedia (e.g. film screenings during performances), and activity on the fringes of society, outside the official media and distribution channels. The worldview of industrial musicians is usually based on a fascination with the dark aspects of humanity and civilization

Bit of an odd one to react to as it's not particularly mainstream or popular. They pioneered a sound that came from the late 70's and early 80's electronic synth music movements that was much harder and some bands inspired by them would later start using guitars and sounding more metal. They are more of a performance art piece than music so it's more of an acquired taste.

I've loved SKinny Puppy for so long. Worlock (Rabies) was actually the first CD I ever bought. I would tell anyone who wants to listen to them for the first time to skip the live stuff at first. Their sound isn't the best live.

All of your facial reactions to this video are PRICELESS! Instantly liked and subscribed.... btw.. these guys have always been strong animal rights activists, they even named a whole album called 'Vivisect' .. vivisections are basically unlawful or unethical animal experimentation, which our society still actively practices... their whole gimmick was to put a reflector on the evils of society to show it how it really looks, no sugar coating.. . and yes, the vocals can be very gargled and hard to understand, almost cryptic, if you will.. they are an acquired taste for sure.. and you don't gotta worry about that being pigs blood.. they really are very anti-animal cruelty... it's more than likely mud

Skinny Puppy are early innovators of Industrial music in the 80's. They layer sounds and clips with their tunes to create a soundscape. The songs are really closer to spoken word poetry sang distortedly. Lyrics are dark and the over all vibe is that of a post apocalyptic horror movie wrapped in a dystopian nightmare. Unless your already into that, Skinny Puppy is an acquired taste. Your reaction is very normal. And that's OK.

I remember these guys from years ago, with pig, ministry and Einstürzende Neubauten, but I think you should try Laibach, probably one of their Beatles covers. They're from what once was Yugoslavia, and you'll find the singer and music style entertaining. You'll either like them, grow to like them, or be afraid of them. Friends of mine find them amusing. 😂

It's called Industrial Music. It's okay, but I prefer Ministry. The issue with this song is the lack of guitar and bass. Ministry started similar, but we're originally more poppy. They went more hardcire and then went more metal. I suppose this song is more for people who prefer it. I have heard other songs by them a while ago and thought they were okay. The band Front 242 are also Industrial too, but are more EDM (Electronic Dance Music) than metal.
