First time hearing: SLEEP TOKEN - TAKE ME BACK TO EDEN

We did it, we listened to all the sleep token albums in a very short time span, but it was a lot of great fun. I hope you enjoyed both this video and our previous ones ‼️‼️‼️

RYSE KZbin channel has a great breakdown explaining how this album and all of their albums are the equivalent of Jung’s redbook (liber novus) and that sleep represents his anima. It’s such a great twist to go back and listen to all of their songs with that perspective and really sheds light on the whole process. Also his nods to alchemy and the sciences are prevalent. He’s clearly a depth psychology enthusiast of not someone who has been seeing a Jungian analyst for the issues he has. That’s why their music resonates so deeply and with nearly everyone. At the end of the day, as a former performer myself - I see the whole gimmick/schtick with the masks and the lore as an excuse to be extraordinarily vulnerable about the dark and toxic things that vessel has experienced - while giving himself and the person or people the songs reference some protection. All music comes from personal inspiration, but I think vessel is unique in that he needed to tap into this heartbreak very consistently to write and perform these three albums. Dude bled on the page for his art (I hope he gets therapy) I really vibe with the take that Euclid not only closes the chapter in his life but also integrates that experience into who he is going forward, and I can't wait to see what the next chapter brings.

You can clearly tell, Vessel and II, are for sure literally hard-educated in music and masters of its craft. Every song that sounds like it would be three songs in one, it is like on "parts" in classical music. I think Vessel is inspirated and he combined based on this. Hes literally Beethoven. The feels and moments we experience listening their music is like people in past feels when they heard Beethoven or Mozart. And of course the connection. Vessel does not just have fun and likes what he does. He lives it through. Thats why the Vessels singing hit so much. He was not attracted to music but lead to. He is like missionary of music spread its to world.

There is a lot of talking about how DYWTYLM is actually, for the most part, Vessel talking to himself in the mirror. This makes a lot of sense and honestly it makes the song hit a lot harder for me "Is there something you give That you will never receive in return? Do you know what it is? Do you wish that you loved me?" As someone struggling with mental health going through experiences like that, is very easy to get stuck in this situation of questioning yourself " why do i treat myself so badly all the time? " or " why do i put myself through this kind of thing? " and still keep doing it

I agree with this. I also feel like DYWTYLM connects to Fall for Me. “Do you roll with the waves?” At the end of Fall for Me V goes into the ocean and disappears under the waves. For me, both songs are V talking to himself. Self-love, self-acceptance 🖤

It's definitely not a skipper once you give this interpretation to it. It's amazing how a song can change your view on it the moment you give it a deeper meaning and emotional connection. Your reaction to Euclid is so heartfelt. I feel it too. It makes me cry in that bittersweet happiness/heartbreak for vessel. It's such a good ending. Since I can't go back and fall in love with ST all over again i absolutely love watching someone else fall the same as i did. And YES the EPS are so good. All the bonus tracks too!!

They played Euclid live on their last US tour. There was a movement called "Project Euclid" might be spelled "Projekt" when they played this song concertgoers had green films they put over their phones flashlights so the crowd lit up with all these green lights. It was pretty cool. They did something similar with "Atlantic" previously but used blue lights. The next time you see live concert footage check out the crowd during Atlantic or Euclid and you might see a sea of blue or green light up.

If you look at the art for Euclid, the character is holding Vessel’s severed head. To me symbolizing a renewal. A moving on from that person he was, stuck in that endless loop of trauma, self hatred, and desperation in this untenable and toxic relationship. To me the lyrics of Euclid are reflective in a sad way, but not in a painful way. He is reminiscing on some of the good times together while not being stuck there in the past. He’s moving on, and happy while still holding on to the memories and lessons he learned. “The bough is broken through”…he is “someone new.” The most powerful, meaningful, and well thought out album closer of all time IMO. Loved watching you two go through the three albums. I’ll see you when the 4th one drops!

It’s the scream at the end that does it for me. Feels like he’s finally letting out all the pent up feelings that have been building through not just the song but the entire relationship. “You make me wish I could disappear. I saw another interpretation going around for Are You Really Ok and I think it really fits! This could also be about a lost pregnancy. The artwork for the single, shows a woman in a warrior's outfit holding a canister with a very early baby inside it The second verse especially. When she miscarries and wakes him up one night bleeding and he wants to help in any way he can but knows the pain she's carrying even though she's trying to stay strong and how he hates that he can't do much else except for just be there and support her and the depression that makes her question living on. This one is so emotional, the context makes it even more upsetting when you listen back. I like they portrayed her as a warrior, going through something like this and staying strong. Very cool. Maybe this is what Sleep has gone through and pushes him away because of the emotional trauma. Beautiful song about a horrible thing to of happened.

I remember reading a theory somewhere that Atlantic is Vessels perspective of his own attempt and Are You Really Okay is the perspective of his mum after the attempt, 'You woke me up dripping crimson' 'I could see it in you even then' etc. I think it's an interesting theory and tugs at my heart A LOT.

There are so many references I've seen people point out in both Take Me Back to Eden and Euclid, but one thing I haven't seen anyone mention is the line "This bough has broken through" in Euclid being a callback to the last song on the first EP One, When the Bough Breaks. Take Me Back to Eden feels like the end of the album, and Euclid feels like the end of Sleep Token as we know them.

Im reading the comments before watching. Euclid is one of my favorite songs but When the bough breaks is also one of my all time bangers. I have too thought of this and im glad you worded it this way.... "the end of Sleep Token AS WE KNOW THEM" Theres no other option. This chapter is closed. However, Sleep Token is not done and over like a lot of people were saying when the album came out. I get that whenever a band as such an epic rise there going to have a shit ton of hate but i just dont understand why!! The start of sundowning matches the ending of euclid. The start of tpwbyt matches the end of sundowning, and the start of tmbte matches the end of tpwbyt. Been loving these reactions, seeing someone introduced to sleep token for the first time is such a joy. I wanted to add my interpretation for DYWTYLM, it's vessel talking to himself. While a lot of what he says can be taken as asking a question to someone else, they are also questions you could ask yourself. Also I think ‘Are you really ok’ is about a loved one struggling with depression who attempted to “hurt” themselves (dripping crimson on the carpet, I can’t heal your wounds this time, I don’t believe you when you say you’re fine, please don’t hurt yourself again). "These ancient canopies" ties back to his previous works Blacklit Canopies where the woman which is referred to as sleep is Gemma which is what this whole thing is based on, her. When you listen closely you can hear him do "haah" in the background throughout the song. It sounds like when you want to remove a little Schmutz from glass, you breathe on it to make it moist, you know what I mean? Aaaand what I also noticed is the rap part in TMBTE where he says "mirror talk" on only exactly these 2 words is an effect put on his voice, which is also the case throughout DYWTYLM. Might be a coincident, but I like to think of it as a hint 😊 That song was a skipper for me for a whole year, same as some other songs. But over time I just gave in and fell in love with everything ST ever put out 🤣 Maybe revisit your skippers in a few months and you'll find out some of them are actually your new favorites 🙂

As a lot of people The Summoning was the first song I heard from Sleep Token. Since then they've become like an addiction to me, I've listened to all the songs they've put out A LOT and now I relive vicariously the experience of discovering Sleep Token through reaction channels :D Thanks for the reaction to both of you, especially my man Andrés because you can tell, throughout the three videos, that he's really getting it and his analysis is very accurate! Watching the 3 album reactions has been amazing. I’ll always looks for new reactions to the albums because I want to witness someone experiencing them for the first time, longing for that feeling I got doing the same for the first time. Some songs took their time to embed, I didn’t vibe with DYWTYLM at all in the beginning, but after listening to the albums through multiple times, it’s another no-skip for me. I flit between the God and the Girl stuff on a daily basis myself, and I think it comes down to what state of mind the individual is in when they are listening. I guess that’s why it never gets old. I love every song but the vulnerability in this song. Its almost as if its coming from a parent in a way ( a definite power imbalance)... until the part where he says "i can see it in you even now ... and are you REALLY OK?!" I think this is a call back to atlantic and in my head, saying the word REALLY in that sentence makes it condescending. Just say are you ok? when you throw that REALLY in there it totally makes it a whole new narrative. I agree with you 100% Daniel on this one.

If you haven't seen the II's Drumeo video definitely check it out. Its also worth checking out some live concert footage as well. Theyre so good live. IV adds harsh vocals and II's drum solo during The Summoning. They also have some funny onstage antics. Not just mysically great but they're entertaining.

We did watch the drum solo in this one, but Ive seen more people say that we should the the drumeo things but like.. Andres simply doesn't understand the techincalities of playing instruments yet so he doesn't understand how things are impressive. And as for me I've ofc watched them sooo many times, I've learned a lot of great things from the drumming videos I see about II. So as much as I'd like to do it and nerd out about his drumming with someone, I don't think that there is any content to make basically :/

I saw the theory that it’s from the perspective of vessels mother who is wanting him to stop self harming. The cover art also shows a mother figure and a womb, so I think it checks out.

WELP,i guess its here that im gonna bring my take on are you really okay? 😅 Im curious to know everyone takes on this. Becaus i have a theory that is outside the lore completely even tho i get the miscarriage and also the point of view of "vessels mom" theory. My first reaction to the song was like if vessels was in a way adressing and talking to the more hardcore fans who may see ST music as description of their own miserable moment and thought time.and instead of using it to heal and make piece with it, they use it in more of a self harm or just staying in that dark sad path of life because of the dark and heavy lyrics the band normally has. So my interpretation is when he referred himself like in the line "you woke me up one night" i interpreted the "me" as in "my music,my art etc" when a fans is about to get stuck in their depression or dark part of their mind even self harm. "The i want to help you nut i dont know how, and asking literally are you okay? " i see it as "my goal is not to make you hurt more,im trying to help but clearly it doesnt work for some. So are you really okay ? If not reach out and also" plz dont hurt yourself".. and dven more but i know there is probably a lot more lyrics that goes in another sense completely and make my interpretation dont work.but hey blame it on the language barrier and my french canadien ass 😂. I just felt that there was like another subtle meaning behind it outside the lore and all 😅

Is sleep tokens saddest song while from a baseline with no lore ties their music is sad in general from the sounds of toxic love and relationships to insecurity within I feel are you really ok is the most hard hitting song it’s definitely about someone he loves self harming but with that aside the feeling of not being help someone you love the line I want to help you but I don’t know how hits very hard

I think the general convention is that we should avoid BC in Sleep Token discussions, but the song is so pretty. And yeah I too feel bad for people who don't get Sleep Token, though I have to say I really enjoy Slaugher To Preveil too. It's a nice dichotomy being able to shed a tear over poetic lyrics and then directly go to forehead-smashing, bear-wrestling deathcore music. It's really stupid when metalheads fight over what is true mental and which isn't. Why would anyone dismiss a good piece of music just because of its genre label is beyond me.
