This song is a masterpiece ! So underrated ! Short version here, but good too.

The other version of the song, with the faster part, is even crazier. The lyrics are re-recorded because Marian definitely sings some phrases differently than in this version. For the best of this song you could hear Sounds Like A Melody Special Long Version. The instrumental part after the 4th minute is insane.

LOVE this. To be fair the whole album is a masterpiece- it's held up so well and even the non single songs are great. Also the album version of this song is better than the video's.

Wow! You did that one at last! One of the best songs ever written. It's the band that changed my world more than twenty years ago, and the happiest day of my life was when I had a chance to interview them when they played here in Russia in 2013 and they invited me and my friend/colleague/band member for a drink in hotel where me and her spent hours chatting with Marian Gold (an amazing guy not acting like a star at all) and he played us songs from the then upcoming album (eventually released only four years later) and among other stuff told us a very rock'n'roll story about filming this video. The director treated them with to bottles of vodka and whatever else was on the set, and when the make-up girl turned she was shocked how wasted Marian looked and she tried so hard to hide it that he ended up "looking like Alice Cooper" as he said:) Sounds like a Melody is a real mind-blowing kick-ass live, especially with the current line up, and I hope you'll check out the video for a new version with a symphonic orchestra released this summer. Has a nice easter egg in it, showing support to Ukraine, so now just post a video for one of my favorite songs on as an anti-war statement. Thank you for your reaction, you just made me remember myself hearing this on a radio when I was 15. Already loved the song then, knowing by a reggae-ish eurodance cover by Randy Bush from mid-90s (guess she was a one-hit wonder with it) so I was really surprised when it turned out to be an Alphaville song. And yeah, there's a reggae-influenced live version of it from 1998 too:) Hope too see you doing more Alphaville reactions, 'cause their catalogue is a real universe of masterpieces, a journey across almost every possible genre.

The ending reminds me of Ultravox's Vienna. I like how you have your spund settings. I heard a lot of the middle of the arrangement, like the counter melody and when the "instruments" were being used as percussion. Did anyone else have an Arp Solus and wanted to be in a synth band?

Oh interesting - the version you are hearing with the original video is from their 'First Harvest' greatest hits album, this version has be remixed with a more prominent bassline and enhanced rhythm section. the music video is well, Alphaville can do a lot better with music videos back in the 80's :) I hope you get to the second album 'Afternoons in Utopia' soon, overall, they are my favourite 80's group along with A-ha, and Tears for Fears etc. Unique powerful vocals, killer synthpop arrangements... just all around good song writing!

This single version is great but you really must play the 12" mix to go totally under it's spell. Halfway through it rockets off on a whole higher temper & you'll feel like you've gone totally insane but it's like the best rollercoaster ride experience that you've ever been on. One day it will be used on a soundtrack or in a hit Netflix series & will become a monster of a hit globally. It really is that good, just remember who told you so when it happens.!!

It's also my favorite song by them. Perfect synth pop song but the 12" version is even better. But i often like the longer versions like the 12" version of 'Talk Talk - Such a shame' or the 17 minute version of 'Donna Summer - Love to love you baby'. Please react to Ätna - Try.
