True story. I was working on Wall Street when this song came out. I had a small radio in my office and was always getting grief from my office manager about playing the radio too loud. One day my office manager was yelling at me, as this song was playing. The CEO was walking by and heard the yelling, he came into my office and told the manager "Leave Martin Alone, I love this song". I was never bothered about playing my radio again! Lol

You haven't done any Steve Winwood? He had that voice even at 15 or 16. He was in various groups back to the 60's. The solo albums on his own came later.

I remember this video & this song as it was the great Steve Winwood's first single on his follow-up to my favorite album of his- " Back In The High Life". I haven't seen this video in a long time & it still holds up as a good video . But everything about the song - aside from Steve's work on the organ- is Jr. Walker's " Shotgun". That summer of 88, it perked the ears of those who had been spoon feed drum machine programming throughout the early part of the 80s. But it's still " Shotgun". I would be more interested in JJ's reaction to Winwood's hit song from the previous album- " Higher Love" with Chaka Khan.

I think Steve was actually sued because it sounded so much like “Shotgun”, or at least that’s what I heard in the past - it is very similar.

I'm a lil' disappointed in your reaction. I really thought You would like this. Winwood's haunting voice, the beat, the horns... then add that video. Ya had to at least be tappin' a toe. We had rowhouse clubs in Philly that looked jus' like that. Long narrow basement, mom cookin' in the kitchen, live music comin' outta the corner, sweaty people dancin'. Two-dollar cover.
