Stromae is a complete artist with visual masterpieces. From popular to less: L'enfer, Tous les memes, Formidable, Santé, Fils de joie. A must see is Quand c'est, very powerful. His breakthrough song is Alors on danse, popular on tiktok few years ago. A bit context for Papaoutai: Stromae lost his father during the Rwandan genocide. His mom only told him the truth years later when he was old enough to understand, so he was always thinking where his father was and why he didnt come home.

I'm 27, originally from Poland, and Alors on danse comes to mind mind first, subconsciously - Papaoutai is probably my favourite song of his, probably because of how much I relate to it

Stromae's father Pierre Rutare was killed during the Tutsi genocide in 1994 when Stromae was 9 years old. His father was Rwandan Tutsi and his mother is Flemish Belgian.

Stromae father died during the Rwanda genocide, so he 's mother couldn't tell him that he was dead. She waited until he was 12 to tell him that died in the genocide that killed his entire family. so she used to tell him that he was working everywhere,. That was a tribute to his father.

Stromae came up on my husbands Spotify playlist one day and we have both been obsessed ever since. He has a concert on YT that’s about 2 hours long with all his best hits, we watch it at least once a year. He is a great showman!!!!

Stromae, the maestro and moseart of our current time. He is a mastermind in combining uplifting dance beats with deep lyricismn. The first song I heard ever heard was Alors on Danse back in 2010 and only thought about it as a party song but years later I first read the translated lyrics and then the song got a whole new meaning. His songs and videos are worth a deep dive.

Thanks for reacting to Stromae (if you switch the syllables it spells Maestro, a common thing done in the Belgian society among artists). He is well-known for his very political songs. Papaoutai (properly spelled "Papa, oú t'ai" - Dad, where are you?) is one of his more personal if not intimate songs, bearing his soul and the years having no father at home. But the reality is different from what he wrote in this song, as his father was killed in a genozide in Rwanda shortly after leaving his family. So Paul van Haver, his real name, was never able to build a father-son-bond that he craved for. Would love to see you reacting more to his work, as he is a hell of a great artist. Sidenote: Pentatonix covered this song (and yes, they did it in French language...) - a must-see! Regards from Germany Rick

not stromae, hahaha, I swear every canadian grew up with this song being played during french class 😂 he's really good though, I like all his music. His music videos are usually very artistic too, and his lyrics typically have deeper meanings than most pop songs. Hope you do more of his works!

The father in the video is Stromae, the artist. I think the mannequin is an absent dad. The boy imagines his dad teaching him to dance, but it's just a ?dream? The dad disappears. And then the boy never learns to become a good dad and just becomes just like his absentee father. I think Stromae's father was absent ?working when he was young and then he was killed in the Rwandan genocide.
