Great reaction. Here is my interpretation - we see the kid smiling at all the others with parental figures (mothers & fathers) and he wishes he has the same. He tries and tries to get his father's reaction. In the end, when we see them dancing together, it's the kids imagination, or wish, of how he would be with his father, but it's not real. The reality is of the father, still not present, so the child assumes the same form, as that's the lesson that he gets from him, and the cycle will continue on with his child. Just as an abused child will often turn to be an abuser when they are parents, because that's the reality they've been taught. Powerful and ultimately sad story.

Welcome in the world of our Belgian genius. In the end the kid gave up and became just like his dad, that was the meaning. Stromae grew up without father who died in the Rwandan genocide. You should check out “Alors on danse” is a straight classic world-wide. My French teacher showed me Stromae and I recognized it from so many parties and events that played this. It’s not only an unmatched energy but with a great message. His music videos are always meaningful as well.

The son blames his dad for being cold unlike other happy families, the son tried to motivate his dad at the end but it was a short term till the son gave up and gradually became like his dad.. It's very sad and meaningful story, Stromae voice and music is something else

There’s actually a really funny video of him going to the NRJ music awards one year during the height of this song’s popularity, where he acts out the whole mannequin thing for like 10 minutes. People carry him out of the back of the car from this video and then they proceed to carry him down the red carpet, stopping every now and then to put him down in front of the photographers, before carrying him on stage where he eventually “comes to life”. It’s some next level performance artistry. Literally everything he does is always polished to perfection.

Yo bro fyi it’s pronounced ‘stro-my’, it comes from maestro but switched up. Also, it is indeed french, the ‘mannequin’ is the artist himself, so yeah he’s real. He’s basically the biggest artist of Belgium, alongside ‘Angèle’. He pretty recently brought out a pretty deep album about mental health stuff, after being gone for a long time.
