Taylor Swift is the queen of using her hate as fuel for her career. Seriously, she’s made it into an art form at this point. One of her biggest hit songs of all time is all about that. Edited to add: I LOVE Britney Spears. But she and Taylor Swift aren’t the same. Taylor wanted this life and has worked her ass off for it. I really don’t think Britney ever wanted to be a pop star, she worked because her family basically forced her to. So Britney has a lot of hits but I feel like you can tell that her heart hasn’t ever really been in it the way that Taylor’s is.

I disagree. They both have very different strengths that they built their talent around, but the biggest difference between them is their families for sure. Taylor’s family loved and supported her no matter what. Kept her grounded when needed and lifted her up when needed. Britney’s family based their love of her on her success placing way more pressure on her than any record label or manager ever could. Britney was exploded by EVERYONE close to her making her hate what she loved doing. So sad

Lol Taylor learned how to play a 12-string guitar because her instructor said she wouldn't be able to. I think half of her career has been clapping back at critics and doubters.

Look, as someone who is finishing up an MPH purely out of spite (“a’ight, y’all think I need an MPH to discuss public health ethics, I’ll get the damned MPH,” even tho there is literally not a single ethics class required for the degree…), I think I might have just figured out why I like Taylor so much. 😂

So, one of Tay's famous quotes is "you have no idea how much I will inconvenience myself to prove a point"- whether that be learning to dance, or anything else someone tells her she can't do, she will make sure she excels at, even though it might not ever have been on her radar to begin with. It is an unforced error so many make with her, that they didn't have to.

😂 So Red was a country-pop album that was kinda her first adult album singing about adult relationships. 1989 was her first MASSIVE pop album. And then Kimye hit - ‘ye released a song about how he might still have sex with Taylor, he “made that b!tch famous,” and when she objected, he and Kim released a (now known to be) heavily edited audio tape where it sounded like Taylor said she was fine with the song. That was really all it took for the dam to break and people went really nasty towards Taylor - if you want to see an example of this, watch the beginning of the reputation tour, which is generally on KZbin as reputation intro/are you ready for it. There’s a whole bunch of media clips at the top talking about “is Taylor Swift too manufactured,” is her surprise winning awards repeatedly too fake, does she maybe deserve the hate she’s getting because she’s too calculating and just manipulative. And that’s not even the worst of what the media said about her - at one point at an award show, I think maybe the VMAs, a reporter, asked her how many men she was planning on taking home to bed that night, and Taylor was just horrified and shocked, and was like “I am not leaving here with any man” and the media would not let it go. Of course, this was also when she was being accused of just dating men so she could write songs about breaking up with them and being called a maneater because she dated John Mayer when she was 19 and he was 32, and then she dated Jake Gyllenhaal when she was 20 and he was, what, 29 or 30? And, of course, Taylor was the aggressor, not the men - they were the victims in the media narrative. Anyhow, this all culminated in worldwide hashtag TaylorSwiftIsOver. And Taylor just disappeared. She wasn’t caught by paparazzi in any photos. She just seemed to vanish off the face of the Earth and she did that for a year, and then suddenly reappeared with the album Reputation. Her only comment to media and pretty much everyone was that “there will be no explanation, only reputation.” And she didn’t do any media interviews or anything - she let the album stand on its own, and the songs and music videos. So you’ve reacted to Ready for It for it and now End Game from that album. In general, Reputation is the dark album, with a kind of moodier, electro-pop, R&B, slightly urban feel. Taylor was reflecting on the person that everyone was accusing her being, and decided that this person actually sounded kind of cool… and she ran with it. So, much of the Reputation album is Taylor embracing and reclaiming this supposed “bad reputation.” That said, there are some truly beautiful songs on that album that are I guess pop but they’re not dark Taylor or bad Taylor, they are Taylor who fell in love away from the media with the guy that she was with for six years, and the song she wrote about that. But because it is electro, pop, and urban, it’s the closest, she’s kind of gotten to a hip-hop or a rock album, and fans really want one of both from her. And there are some live performances from the 1989 tour, like We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, that really stoke the fire for a rock album in the way that parts of the Reputation album really stoked the fires for a full urban hip-hop wrap album. Ok, so re: Bad Blood with Kendrick Lamar. This is actually a remix from her previous album, 1989, and it was never released as a single on its own - it was just available for radio and as a music video - until the release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version), which is all about re-recording her music and we don’t need to get into that it’ll get way too long in an already long post. Except for the fact that you should know that Kendrick Lamar still respects her so much that he came back and re-recorded his rap and vocals for that song so that she could re-release it. …oh geez. I do apologize for the length. If you got this far, you need to check out Taylor and Nicki Minaj doing Super Bass together. 😂

React to her live performances: Intro + ready for it/I did something bad (reputation tour) Cornelia street/daylight/death by a thousand cuts (live in Paris) Also “all of the girls you loved before” and “all too well 10 min version” You should also check out her folklore and evermore albums. It might not be your type of music but I think you’ll really appreciate the lyricism.

You HAVE to react to Taylor's "We are never, ever getting back together." NOT the pop regular version. Swift Leaks 2.0 has a rock/pop live version from her 1989 concert. She is in leather and is playing an electric guitar the entire time! It will be another side of Taylor I promise you didn't know about! Speaking of using haters as motivators Taylor is the Queen of that and clapbacks. Taylor's first two albums she wrote with co-writers. I believe she was 15-18 yrs old. The albums were getting so much praise from the music industry that they turned on her and said it must have been just the co writers and Taylor probably only wrote a few words. That REALLY ANGERED HER. She considers herself a SONGWRITER first. Her next album Speak Now she wrote completely by herself! Taylor and Ed have been good friends for over a decade. He opened for her on her Red tour. In the song when he raps about his insecurities, the good and bad end up in the song. Things changed on the 4th of July. Taylor always has big parties at her Rhode Island house on the 4th. Ed was invited. He asked Taylor if he could bring a friend from high school. He brought her, that was the first time they ended up being more than friends. Cherry is now his wife and they have 2 kids. 😊

She has grown into an extremely good business woman. She has her own management and production companies. She made the companies for herself. She is the only artist "signed" to both companies. She likes to run a very tight, small team of people she trusts. Her parents are on both of her teams. They are the ones that went to the movie studios to get her concert film in theaters. They didn't like the deal so they went to the largest movie chain AMC and made a deal with them. They completely cut out the middle man. Taylor set the pricing(all the #'s mean something to her, so they were weird prices, the theaters had to agree to sell popcorn/cups with her tour designs on them, let people sing and dance in the theaters, only play the film on the weekends, have big standing signs so fans could take pictures "with" Taylor. It really upset film studios. They saw how smart it was. Taylor and AMC made more money. Taylor had a lot of demands but got them all. After Beyonce saw what Taylor did she did the same. Exactly what the studios were afraid of happened. Beyonce and Taylor went to each other's premiere to support each other. Probably watching the concerts counting the dough.
