Great reaction. I hope you react to the rest of this CLASSIC album "I'm Ready." It came out in '93. He was 15 or 16 when he recorded it. Another huge single from the album is the title track "I'm Ready." Every song is 🔥 imo.

We need to bring this sound back and get back into that emotion, there's more to life than the party up scene. This is where you get deep. Brian McKight, Boyz II Men, KC and JoJo / Jodeci, SWV, En Vogue, Portrait, Hi-Five, Tony Toni Tone and so on, all smooth.

This was me and my 1st loves song, I still listen to it, the back story is he was founded by PRINCE and was able to secure him a deal working very close with Quincy Jones on his Albums, I want to say it was 94 ish when it came out it was on the radio every hour on the hour, then it got leaked that he was gay if it would have been today it would have been no big deal but seeing that this is over 30 years ago, he was still able to release three top 10 hits and can we talk going to number one and staying there for a substantial amount of time, great guy, great singer, Tevin Canbell is the man, that song (whole Album titled I'm Ready) is a all time classic and a must have for 90s R & B 🤟♥️

You maybe be took to ever watch or even remember Disney’s “A Goofy Movie,” but Tevin Campbell voiced the character ‘Powerline.’ He also sang the movie theme song “EYE TO EYE” as ‘Powerline.’ He also sings “STAND OUT” which was a’Powerline’ lip-synced by ‘Goofy’s” son ‘Max’ who also dressed like him a to impress his crush during a school assembly. You can watch it on Disney+.

When this album dropped Tevin Campbell sent shockwaves throughout the entire country!! I am from Arizona so I am proud to say that when this record was first heard in Phoenix the ONLY radio station at the time that was playing Hip Hop and R&B in Phoenix (Power 92.3, no longer in business) had this song in regular rotation. Same as Tevin Campbell I am a fellow Southwesterner which is a unique regional heritage for American freed slaves, we are "Frontier negroes" lol. Tevin is a good guy. He was never about causing or participating in drama in the music business. He's good energy and was discovered by Quincy Jones. Growing up I had a crush on him but knew he was gay. I just thought he was a pretty man, period. I don't like the rumors surrounding Quincy Jones (whose daughter Kidada Jones is pretty and was a close friend of Aaliyah's, they grew up together) but make no mistake about it, Mr. Jones knew talent when he saw it upon meeting Tevin. Tevin Campbell is from a small town in Waxahatchie, Texas, and there has been so much talent to come out of Texas. Willie D and the Geto Boys (Old school Southern Hip Hop), the openly gay deceased Quindon Tarver who came into the music scene AFTER Tevin, Quindon was from Plano ("The R&B Prince of Plano") , Jamie Foxx, Yarbrough and Peoples, the list goes on and on. Tevin unfortunately became homeless not too long ago and was living on the streets of Los Angeles (super dangerous seeing as how I myself just moved from Los Angeles county!) but he is not homeless anymore. I am still looking into how come he never became a bigger star and ended up homeless. Tevin Campbell is an openly gay man but I think he was unwilling to be a gigolo (male prostitute) for big promotion and industry executives which could be part of why he fell off the radar a little bit. He was always handsome even in his younger years. Tevin was mentored by the late Michael Jackson. His breakthrough "T.E.V.I.N." album released in 1991 when he worked with Al B. Sure and Al B. Sure's cousin KYLE WEST, they produced a record titled "Alone With You". Super sexy song he recorded to prove that he was becoming a man even though I think at the time he was just fifteen years old. If you watch some of his older interviews before he turned eighteen he definitely sounded mature beyond his years, charming and respectful. But hey, that is what the industry will do to you, make you mature before your time. Yes, Tevin is alive. It is kind and considerate of you that you had the human decency to ask such an important question because of the fact that American Black men and women have built the industry but have yet to receive their proper respects and dues and many have died young and penniless. Even when we were under Jim Crow and the payola post world war two period our artists were dying young and in poverty, which is so sad considering the fact that many of the much older songs I have heard on the radio growing up I learned were remakes that were originally written by those same people I mentioned who died poor. If you watch a video of Tevin Campbell performing "Alone With You" LIVE? Oh my goodness, his vocals are SULTRY, he sounds SO DAMN GOOD (and grown as hell, lol). You would not believe until you watch and hear for yourself. There are other records of his you would love too, like "Goodbye" (original and the remix!) and his "I'm Ready" single written by Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds (not to be confused with ALBUM entitled "I'm Ready".) Please go through all of his older catalogs. Tevin Campbell is so RIDICULOUSLY and UNFAIRLY underrated as an artist and I think he was deliberately underpromoted due to perverts in the music business who wanted to spite him. They stalled his career. Those violators who only saw dollar signs and a young, handsome gay male they wanted to prey upon when he was a minor. In 1989, Tevin collaborated with Quincy Jones performing lead vocals for "Tomorrow" on Jones' album "Back on the Block" and released his Platinum-selling debut album, T.E.V.I.N. The album included his highest- charting single to date, "Tell Me What You Want Me to Do", peaking at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. "ALWAYS IN MY HEART" is a track on his 1993 "I'm Ready" album. Check out the "Goodbye" recording remix (Hakeem's remix) on The Soul Box youtube channel. You'll love it. Tevin's videos are so passionate and loving, his other videos colorful and childlike, INNOCENT, what is MISSING in the music today. Gay Black American men have a legacy in the music. The men who paved the way for Tevin before him was a Disco pioneer named Sylvester who back in 1978 recorded "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)", a former Soul Train dancer and late singer JERMAINE STEWART (he was close friends with the beautiful Jody Watley who was in the Shalamar group back in the 1980s, the decade before I was born). Another gay Black American man who is underrated is Daniel Steward (Danny Boy), that Chicago native who helped establish DEATH ROW RECORDS and Interscope and then we have Luther Vandross (he was from New York). Say what you want to about GAY Black American men but the ones I mentioned were all handsome, stylish and TALENTED. Sylvester passed away and Jermaine Stewart was murdered for trying to expose the evil syndicates in the entertainment business but Danny Boy is still alive at 45. Luther Vandross is dead and gone but I still play his records. Anyways as for Tevin I am not sure is releasing new music but he is healthier and doing better now at 46. Tevin is undeniably an R&B icon, a Black American CULTURAL icon and an AMERICAN icon. This is NOT up for debate!
